if you replace the middle block with something like stone, this becomes stackable... they'll all activate after one another as a wave. you can add a lever as an input on both sides by moving it away from the door a bit with observers, and chain the inputs from both sides together with a dropper or dispenser. awesome door!

I can make some minor adjustments and make a 3x3 that’s flush with the wall when closed, on both sides. The best part of observers is that I can put multiple copies of the same exact redstone structure right next to each other with different timings without worrying about how they’ll effect each other.

I was about to ask this as well! This is such a crazy thin door and it would be even more awesome if the center “door” part could be something other than observers. However, I saw another comment saying something along the lines of “if you replace the center observer with something else, the door will activate as a wave” so I don’t think that’s possible, unfortunately.
