Quick update 6+ months post Supercharger, Driving around in Super Mazda 6, discussing experience

Been a while since I shared, just applied first revision from DRTuned and out for a test drive (feels bit stronger in the low-mid range, but hard to tell with so much power, many more revisions to come).
Decided to make a quick video talking about the daily experience with my Supercharged Mazda 6 :)

Problem with changing the suspension is that it throws all the safety sensors off.

"first has too much power, second pins you, and third gear just keeps on going." This is how I feel about my stock Mazda3 2.5L with a manual 6-speed. That third gear pulls me up past 80 when entering the freeway, and there's more to spare... I just hold it in third and change lanes and pass traffic... all this while climbing uphill. I can't imagine how awesome this VT supercharger would be!

@M6Ninja Air flow does in fact increase with rpm with a fixed-displacement supercharger. It's the air-flow per revolution that's fixed. The faster it spins the more air it will push out. You are correct in that the boost pressure remains stable through the power band, assuming a properly sized supercharger, as the lower airflow at lower supercharger rpms is matched by lower air consumption at lower engine rpms.

right, that's the point I was trying to make: The boost should stay constant, but it doesn't because the resistance from the engine is lower in low RPM (because that's what Mazda optimized this engine for) and boost rises with RPM because the engine doesn't flow as well at those levels

Nice update on you build....but how about the transmission? Did you mod your transmission, especially like adding ATF oil cooler, change fluid etc...await your response thanks

Yes, I dropped the auto transmission pan, replaced the filter and the fluid, before installing the supercharger just to be safe. The Skyactivs pump coolant through the transmission to cool it, so there's not good options to add a transmission oil cooler, but because these are not traditional torque converter transmissions it doesn't seem to build up much heat even in the heat of racing. I did add Mishimoto Liquid Chill to the coolant to theoretically help conductivity.

What is scary to me, is that my 2017 6 will roast the tires in first gear all day long, and it is a pre turbo year model. I can't even imagine a supercharger on it...

I love it man I really do the sky active high comp engine and how it works paired with a supercharger is too cool man love the work ! I have one of these and I have been itching for a build and good results I have this exact car . Where can one source this kit ?

How do you feel about the longevity of the engine/trans after installation and tune? Looking heavily in this and would like to see 300chp and 230-250whp but if it shortens the lifespan of a 300k engine/trans to only 120-150k I'm not so sure on throwing out my factory warranty. Finding the sweet spot of reliable power to compete with say the type R or other hot hatches is what I'm after ('22 Mazda 3 hatch here).

Well all indications are the longevity is still fantastic, I'm about 25k miles onto the kit so far, after 2 years, and everything is holding up beautifully, still doesn't burn any oil, shifts are solid and smooth, it really feels great. One of the guys running the kit drives a lot more miles than me and has already put 60k miles on the kit without issue (at 80-100k miles the supercharger does need the internal oil replaced that lubricates the internal gears). Also, it's awesome to be competitive with Civic Type Rs now, they never expect it from my car, and the Mazdas look so much better IMO

What about if youre cruising around in the 60-90mph range. Do you get constant whine? Or only noticeable when going on the throttle more. I have a Mazdaspeed3 atm and want to get a cx5 2.5na as a family car and maybe add this who knows, to get a bit more power (im not interested in the turbocharged variant at all, ms3 is enough). But im looking for something civilised as the ms3 is rowdy as fuck (even when off boost with given the engine mounts, louder exhaust etc). Something to enjoy in long trips.

ya, the whine is only there when on the throttle, otherwise the bypass valve opens for maintaining MPG by allowing air to flow around the compresser, so I only lost about 1mpg (still get about 35mpg) on the freeway!

stock headers, replaced 2nd cat with high flow, and replaced giant stock muffler with Thrugh Hush Turbo muffler 2.5", And running CAI as well I've thought about headers, but the stock ones are so good I'm not sure it's worth the effort, I think I'd be better served by going to a slightly smaller pulley or adding WM injection...

This is the 2.5L, pushing as much mass air flow as a 3.6L Planning to dyno it next summer after custom tune is dialed in WHP somewhere in the range of 250-300WHP depending on accompanying mods and the tune (and if you go with the smaller pulley, 61mm vs. 64mm) Obviously 300WHP is my goal, but I can honestly say that it FEELS ridiculous fast now, so whatever the dyno number is I'm getting loads of smiles/gallon LOL

minimal to no effect on the freeway, thanks to the bypass valve, only -1mpg freeway, but in-town it's -2-6mpg depending how heavy my foot is LoL So still really efficient, especially considering I've gained about 90whp
