Who Framed Roger Rabbit explained why there were cartoon characters with live action people and actually treated toons and live action creatures as separate entities, with the exception of Space Jam and Loony Toons Back in Action, every other movie with that premise tries to treat the cartoon characters like they're really there and live action, I'm convinced there's realistic Tom and Jerry models somewhere on a computer in Warner Bros Animation

Fully agree that the movie is only good when Tom and Jerry are on the screen doing their bits. This is why I think if you were ever going to make a Tom and Jerry movie, you either have one thing going on in with their lives and so they are forced to move scenes and have new backgrounds to work with or you just have them moving from scene to scene doing their classic bits with no story or reason like most of the shorts. The second one might be a bit harder to do though. Also have it all 2D animated.

They could have had a group of animal capture units chasing them around the US, and they keep trying to get each other caught or beat each other up. By the end they would realize they have to work together to escape, and they do, only to go back to fighting. Still doesn't explain why there are cartoons in the real world, etc etc, but its way better than having them in the background most of the time, with a lot less of an emphases on the humans.

An idea for how to make a long Tom and Jerry movie: Tom and Jerry somehow get lost from their house and put far away and have to work together to get back home, ya know, Bolt style. Yeah it’s a little cliche but Tom and Jerry is all about gags and classic wacky hijinks. They don’t talk but I think that would still work in a movie format, cause they’d still interact with others, maybe even live action people, who would talk. It’s just that those other people would not be full characters. Or maybe they can go the Fat Albert way and have it where Tom and Jerry enter the real world (but they’re still animated) and maybe the government and scientists are hunting them down so they have to work together, maybe with the help of a human but ultimately the movie is not about that person or their life, to get back to the cartoon world. Maybe by the end all classic cartoons come to life and it becomes this Roger Rabbit like world of toons and live action living together. Or not idk I’m just spitballing here.

If they had to make it live action. I would’ve liked a movie about them where they’re Hollywood actors, but the movie starts in an animated setting and everything is like a normal episode. Then they have a fight and split up. Then interact with their surroundings and break the fourth wall. Then they realize they miss each other and as they’re trying to get to each other a bunch of obstacles get in their way and comical physical humor happens. Then they get together again and finish their episode. Then happy ending.

The human story was boring and just didn't fit with Tom or Jerry. The music choice was not the best, the rap and singing in general felt out of place. I would've preferred just simple background music like in the cartoon, let the instruments help along the expressions and body movement of the characters. But the animation was great, props to that.

I just wish Tom & Jerry didn't look so flat colored. It looks like the lighting and shadows don't realistically look like its affecting them. They look so bright in dark scenes. I think they would have looked better 3D without the 2D textures on them. I wish they would have gone for the more realistic style like Detective Pikachu or the Sonic Movie

But to make a long story short, as Steamboat Willy/Mickey Mouse came close to becoming part of the public domain (anyone can use him to make stories now), Disney lobbied to change copyright law and have the years in which a creative property remains owned by the creator extended. And they did this two times. So they complete fcked up the purpose of the public domain. Which is ironic for a company whose starting catalog is built off of public domain stories (the Grimm fairytales).

When I was a kid I actually liked the mid 2000s Tom and Jerry movies (Magic Ring, race one, Mars one). Magic Ring, the strongest of the bunch imo, was basically 45 minutes of shenanigans because Jerry has a magic ring on his head and Tom needs to get it back before his wizard master gets back. A couple of weeks ago I were scouring the web for any animated movies from Sweden because I got interested in knowing what had been produced and animated in my homeland, you often talk about interesting points of view from different countries/cultures and that made me were curious about what had been made under the years that I maybe didn't know about. I found both weird and cool films made from different people at different times, so if you feel like watching something dark dystopian-esque than Exit (1990) is the short film for you (has English subs). If you wanna watch a fever dream of a kids movie, take a look at Jakten på himlens nyckel (The quest for the key to heaven) also has english subs and both this and Exit are up on youtube for free.

Going into Tom and Jerry I prepared myself for a Godzilla scenario and that made me less disappointed. What I mean by this is whenever the title character/s are on screen, it's either really good or at the very least passable to the source material, when it's on the human characters, it's either boring, overused, or so cliche that you want to change it.

Despite the obvious lazy attempt to resurrect nostaliga on an all time classic, there were some really good moments with the cat and mouse duo, especially when they started bonding. My favorite scene would probably be the scene where Tom and Jerry sat on a bench in front of a bridge actually communicating without talking which was really sweet. Honestly, when Jerry gave Tom a rose, I legit thought he was proposing to him. And I was like, whoa, hold on there pal, lets take it easy!
