when you multiply by 2, you just think the double, and you can take advantage of that, because when multiplying with 4, is double and double again, and with 8, is double, double, double, so do doubles 3 times: 7x2= 14, x2=28, x2 = 56.

he has a technique on how to remember the numbers which is probably the most important so you don't lose where your up to. each number 1-9 has a certain sound to it like V=8, CH=6, M=3, T=1 and so on. So if you wanted to remember 36 you'd use M + CH , but to make that easier make it into an actual word like MuCH or MunCH. When he says 'right picher' I think he means R=4, i, G=7, h, T=1 P=9, i, CH=6, e, R=4 (471,964) ... I think...i could be wrong
@JeffTheHokie3 жыл бұрын
It's called the major system. There are plenty of resources explaining it. the number is 41964, not 471964. You don't HEAR the g in the word "right" you only hear the r and the t. Go by sound, NOT spelling.

Let n=15 Mark the one's place is 5 Product of 5 =25 Sum of 5=10 Thus, the number is 225 [ How? well, I can't explain in simply words I have to demonstrate it, But all I can say there is something with product and sum.]

I'm obviously impressed that he can work the answer out in his head. However, I'm even more impressed with how at 3:47 he says 41,864, but then tells himself that it 'seems wrong'. How does he realise it's wrong?
@fracarolli Жыл бұрын
Preamble: he was trying to calculate 78 times 269, right? So, he noticed that 269 is 270 minus 1, so he first did 78 times 270 and broke 270 down into 9 times 3 times 10. 78 times 9 is 702, which is a trivial calculation to him. 702 times 3 is 2106 and 2106 times 10 is 21060, which is the result of 78 times 270. But he wanted 78 times 269, right? So he had to subtract 78 from his answer. 21060 - 78 = 21060 - 60 - 18 = 21000 - 18. By that point, he used the fact that the thousands "complement" of 18 is 982, by which I mean that 972 is the number you add to 18 to get 1000. He finally arrived at the result of 78 x 269, which is 20,982. Now, the de facto answer: since he needed twice the value of 78 x 269, he came to the realization that his calculation was wrong because he noticed that he should have a carry at some point, but it didn't happen. He saw that doubling 20,900-something would arrive at 41 thousand and that 82 should also carry a 1 in the process of doubling. So, he arrived at 20,982 x 2 = 41,864, which is wrong. He probably noticed that he was supposed to carry the 1 twice, but only did it once and, under pressure, could not figure out where the second carry was supposed to happen, so he started over.
