I've been to Can-Am, NASCAR and NHRA races and nothing is close to the intensive power feeling than the top fuel monsters provide. When they hit the go pedal it shakes your heart. The closet I've come to anything is standing on the flight deck next to a Phantom locked down going to full AB with the JBD raised. It's just something hard to understand. I loved it.

Back in the 70's there were many funny car meets at my home track in New England. 32 at one event with full eliminations. What a day that was. Remembering those dry hops....is was great competition back then when the NHRA was still in it's primal state.

@@deanhilbig8606 - They're Top Fuel = nitromethane not alcohol
@deanhilbig86064 жыл бұрын
@@Crazystuffyousee all I said was they start on alcohol, not gasoline. Pure Nitro is mixed with methanol to get nitromethane. Wayyyyyy to much compression for gasoline. The nitro content is determined by a specific gravity test. It varies with temp, and humidity. The tune ups are aiming at available oxygen in atmosphere. But and this is why it is so potent, nitro gives up a oxygen molecule when it burns, so in a way it feeds on itself... Not to mention, it is still a liquid in the combustion chamber. Gasoline has to be atomized to be effective. And is limited to compression. You can squeeze the F out of alcohol without predetination. Not gasoline.. Hope that helps, very astute to catch the changing of fuel though! Yep, your a gear head!

@GamrGalore3K4 жыл бұрын
Dean Hilbig Can a boat move on land? water feels heavy because it sticks to you and clothing, not because it has friction. Liquids cannot have friction. Liquids are not solid. The reason things stop moving in water is because of heat transfer. So, now that you know that, try again.
@deanhilbig86064 жыл бұрын
@@GamrGalore3K thinking, lol. I can see your point. Lets talk drag. Pleasure boat, any boat, you don't really need a brake peddle. It's always being held back. There is no vacume felt on the intake, it's always under load. The top fuel class is the phenom, and mostly since 2x props. The boat leaves in top gear, it's pulling it's Max at say 60' and just trying to hold it out the big end gaining a few rpms. Where as the clutch on land has to lock the crank to the wheels(slip) the water provides this give. But as the car accelerates, the tire keep changing gears by growing. Not so the props, so the top speed isn't there we maxed out the KBhemi at 5800 and climbing a little to a final drive of 23000 rpm on prop shaft at about 60'. That's about when the carbon welds itself solid on land and the car accelerates faster and faster. The 500' shows them at almost 200mph. 220, 230 over next half. See me?
@Al-mx6ru3 жыл бұрын

Most drag strips are at least 4000ft long. Some are much shorter making the shut down too short for these machines when something goes wrong. Auto Club Raceway in Pamona is one of the shortest ones out there at 3200ft. Not much shut down time before sand traps. This was suppose to decrease the speeds below 300 for at least 5 yrs. Now there going ever faster then they were going the full 1/4 mile.
