The gizmo bug you talked about is not a bug On the left top side you need to switch to select mode again (shift+1) When you delete the control rig it stays in animation mode and then clear the mode

Thanks for the tip! I hadn't realised it was switching modes. Ideally once the only control rig in the scene is deleted it would automatically switch back

Yes only the 1st way and 2nd way don't work when you need a curved line of motion with character rotation
