Complicated models is what keeps me going. I can tell that im a different kind of person than owen. I love to spend time in the cockpit, inside of the fuselage, landing gear area l, etc. That makes the models far more sophisticated and really shows how much you can do with 0.22 mm copper wire and spare time. It also makes me feel special about the model I made

Quick Kits, i discovered athat what i thought was a dying hobby has a very vibrant and living cimmunity in poland. I didnt have any experience with scale models beside four polish planes that my dad built when he was my age. I think we might not be to compare to much because at that time poland was communist and there was nothing in the store, but i think that modelling is really getting more accesible overtime. Even though there really are more specific things, you always can just ignore them and focus on simple stuff

I heard in a newspaper that scale modelling becomes more famous like it was back in the 70. when my father was 12 like me. I hope that is so and that the model stores also sell airfix, trumpeter or zvezda and not always Revell, Italeri, Revell and.......... don't forget Revell

Hi Owen. I do love these types of videos you do ! Don't know if you are aware and any of your other subs but with the Humbrol maskol it should come with a warning but I don't think it does, I've learned the hard way. Once you have applied/used the maskol don't leave it on the part for a long period of time. It starts to " rot " the part. I learned the hard way and it destroyed a cockpit canopy that I had applied it to for approx 48 hours. I can thoroughly recommend the Mr hobbys masking sol r ! It's fantastic ! I'm sure you aware but when I've mentioned this in forums and my KZbin channel not many are aware of this. Anyway great stuff Owen, I did look for you at Telford but missed you. Say hello to Kendal and I hope you and your family are well. Good luck with your last year and enjoy the summer mucka. Stay safe

Difficult to say. Currently working on a Scharnhorst 1:1200, but having trouble getting the paint on without brush stripes visible like I've learned from your videos. Trying to fix it with a primer and/or different paint brand, but it's tricky. Also, regarding kits lying around; I have about 9 kits on my shelf I bought 3 years ago at Duxford and Bovington, and while I have a neat diorama plan for one, I have yet to touch any of them haha But as a tip for finishing kits: maybe make a plan; how do you want to paint your model?, how long do you think you need to paint it?, and then pick a day where you have time :)

i was stuck on my tamiya 1:35 MK IV Landship motorized. I put it on the shelf as it was getting to complicated and fiddly. Than i played the battlefield 1 mission through and mud blood again. Afterwards i had a massive amount of motivation to finish the kit. tl:dr Play a video game with your kit in it.

I'm 19 and also go to uni, about to start my second year in September/October, and while I would love to film some of the models I build, I also have the same issue where I'm too busy during some of the months I'm away at uni, plus I'm not as good as you! I'm still learning some things and love your channel, just come across it and it's a big help and full of tips and inspiration. While I mainly stick to tank models, I also build some buildings etc to 1:76 scale for a model railway and have views for other projects. Maybe down the line I may get better and film some of the build/painting processes and see what you think? Would love to hear your opinions on that. Keep up the great work on youtube and hope university goes well for you, I'm sure it will :)

Ive once had a situation like this. I used micro set and sol on a very cheap sacrificial model. The decals never conformed to the surface even though it was semi gloss and the panel lines were shallow. I guess it was the low quality of the decal paper used for the model that has costet me the equivalent of 2 pounds

About motivation, To me I loose when I want to have one specific feature, effect or look that I don´t know know how to do it but I don't want to go on just for the sake of finishing the model, later on I may come across some tecnik or see one video explaining how to do it and I want to try, than I have the model right there for the job, some of them became test subjects that surprisingly turns out very good models... sometimes all you need is some time to figure out how to do new things.

Hmmm....okay lol. I have an IDF Merkave MKIV in the stash, painted, decals applied. I have all the motivation I need to finish it though I have nothing to use to finish it off. I'm too scared to try alternatives. I applied a lil chalk wash on it yet it haven't move since april. In my current state, I'm a 14 year old 3rd year highschool mediocre modeler. My freind is sending me a stug III ausf g from dragon in 1:72. And this kit is important, as my friend is leaving the hobby cus of some personal problems. He's even giving me paints and oils. So this kit needs justice. Wish I can deliver it. To get your morale back on your models, go to facebook, get in a group then talk to people. If you want to enjoy fight them lol. And owen... OWEN! That ship needs some oils and a red part. Anyway a big thanks for making this vids and good luck with life and...ugh...girls...joke. Stay cool

Owen, how long do you let the paint dry (particularly in your build videos) before applying a 2nd or 3rd coat of paint? Another problem I have with the Scharnhorst build is that with enemal paint, when I don't wait long enough, the 2nd coat messes up the smoothness of the paint/ and also chips away the first coat. But if I wait too long, the paint I've mixed dries out and I can't use it anymore. How did you do this in your builds?
@quickkits
@quickkits 6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you will have to let the paint you mixed dry out. You could attempt to preserve them in an airtight pot, but this still won't make them last long. I leave enamel paints over-night. Acrylic paints can be re-coated within an hour or two, and a wet palette (see my video) can preserve mixed colours for a few days
@RuurdMartijn
@RuurdMartijn 6 жыл бұрын

Decals should ideally be coated with a clear coat (eg. matt varnish) in order to protect them once they're dry. Maybe try getting a spray can of varnish for modelling (eg. Humbrol)
