I have layers of cloth cut out to the shape of the container which is similar to yours. I also use distilled water. I put a very tiny drop of dishwashing liquid in between each layer of cloth. This keeps any mold from forming. I have left the container sealed with paint in it for upwards of six months with no mold forming whatsoever. In fact it still smelled lemony from the dishwashing liquid. Of course it's not practical to do that as the parchment will dry out even though the cloth was still moist. I've never had a problem leaving it sealed for a few weeks or even a month though.

Hey Owen I do warhammer as well as airfix and with warhammer you use plastic cutters to cut the pieces off the sprue and it makes life so easy when doing airfix you should try using them. You can buy an appropriate sized pair from games workshop who are the company that made warhammer. :D

What kind of baking/parchment paper do you use? All baking/parchment paper I’ve found seems to have a coat of wax or something similar that prevents the paper from transferring moisture to the paint. The only moisture it is getting is ambient moisture when the lid is on
@redwitch95 Жыл бұрын
Fauxhammer's blog on making wet palettes addresses this a bit - for some countries (like the UK) our baking paper tends to use wax, while American baking paper tends to use silicone. Silicone-based baking paper works great and wax-based ones are pretty awful. Same goes for paper towels, UK ones are way more absorbent than what he showed, so they work well for wet palettes, but US ones tend to just literally be paper so they're pretty awful.

@tonyw28087 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for these videos. Just getting back into kits after 30 or so years. You mention that you dilute acrylic around 7 to one part water. How do you do this? By measuring 7 drops of paint from the brush to one of water or just what feels right? I'm making the Triumph Herald Starter Kit and just diluted the silver paint (Humbrol 11) which came with the kit with just short of 0.5ml of water (applied with a pipette) and now when I apply the paint to the plastic the paint sort of shrivels up and leaves bare bits of plastic.
@quickkits7 жыл бұрын
It's nice that you're getting back into the hobby! 7:1 is roughly what I use, though I do it by eye now because every pot of paint is slightly different. Metallic acrylic colours are particularly annoying I find. The Revell acrylic metallics are pretty good. Try painting the area matt black first, or maybe look for a different brand or try using enamel metallics which are much more reliable

Does a wet palette only stop the paint from drying out or does it thin the paint down aswell? I never know how to thin paints I always end up with basically a wash
@quickkits6 жыл бұрын
It thins the paint a little as well. Sometimes I find I need to add a tiny amount of extra water to the paper. If you're thinning in a dry palette, a ratio of 1 part water to 6 parts paint is a good place to start.

How does this work with enamel paints if i use white spirit as thinner.
@StaticModel7 жыл бұрын
This will not work with enamels.
@Noobman3017 жыл бұрын
It should work ok. The thing is that acrylics have drying time around few minutes to an hour without drying retarder or wet palette but enamels had drying time from 6 hours to more than 24 hours so there is no need for wet palette. In most cases just normal palette or piece of plastic will do for mixing and thinning enamels :) ...same thing with oil paints as their drying time is usually few days. Hope it helps you.
@StaticModel7 жыл бұрын
If you place enamel paint on wet palette, or in other humid condition over time you will damage it molecular structure, cause modeling paint contains special chemicals that includes: retarder, flow improvement chemicals, pigment bonding agents and ect... In other words enamel paint after wet treatment will be damaged and can not handle later stages of modeling like warnishes, washes ect. Not even talking about thinners that has rapid evaporation and in combination with water vapors will cause a mess...
