I'm probably one of your older followers, being in my 60s. Just want to say a big thanks, I am 'getting back into' this hobby for somthing to keep me interested in my retierment. I did some years back with the kids! But never got on top of the painting. Have bought a wet palette and some decent brushes. After a couple of weeks I now have 10 Stricking Scorpion at a fair table top standard. It makes painting a batch so much easer. Also I can paint in a diffrent place with only the palette some water and the mini to move, so I can sit and watch a battle report while painting. Once again many thanks.

Hey Squidmar. I've rediscovered my love of painting through my 7 year old son. He inherited a huge Tau army from my brother in law who had unfortunately decided to grow up. This has led to me unearthing my original Eldar war host from the 90s and I sprayed over the awful rendition of Biel tan that I did back then with a zenithal and OMG these models are amazing. We are learning from each other all the time. My son Max painted his tau black and then smudged red into all the recesses and went over and neatened the panels with fresh black. For a 7 year old it looks better than I could have imagined. I'm 44 and I just used the same technique on my falcon grab tank. Wow. We love watching and we emigrated from the UK to Thailand and there isn't much of a GW presence here. So we're working with what we have and repurposing old models to the best of our ability. Thanks for all the inspiration. Following this video my wife, daughter, son and myself all have homemade wet pallets and we set aside time to listen to vinyl records and paint as a family. Thank you for keeping us informed and enthusiastic. Lee

as a guy with pretty shaky appendages (no real problems though), My best two tips are 1: cradling the mini in both my off hand and painting hand, anchoring my brush to the mini 2: sitting with my knees close to my face, and kind of pressing my arms against my legs to absorb shakiness. I know this might seem patronising since I don't know anything about you, so sorry about that.. ugh. thanks for the wiz kids recommendation anyways :)

Maybe look into getting a 3d printer. You can find files online for free or there are several great Patreon that have great models every month. One gold piece has about 4 separate models for a $1 each month. They are scaled for DnD but you can scale up to whatever size you want. If you go very much larger learn to hollow the model to save time and money.

I too have neurological issues that have worsened over the years. At one point in my life I was an award winning modeler. Now my tremors are so severe that I believed I would never paint scale models again. I started messing around with 3D printing. There is a bit of a learning curve but now I’m printing my own dioramas. What was once at 1/72 or 1/35th scale can now be at any scale I choose (within reason of course) my tiny minis I usually print around 200% larger. There are free files online to learn, you can buy files (.stl or .obj) or make your own after a while. Shaking hands don’t have to be our end. NEVER GIVE UP!

For those in hot humid environments that use AC in the summer. Store your closed wet palette near a window to avoid mold growth. Also, make sure to have a transparent top so the UV light can do its job. Dark and moist environments are bad, Mkay!

Don't lick your brush! Not only are there many Pigments that aren't especially healthy(some are toxic, some are carcinogenic some tend to cause allergies) also acrylic medium isn't healthy either. But that said, if you like to eat stuff that isn't supposed to be eaten, keep on licking your brush.

A tip regarding parchment paper: If you dont want to cut a bunch, buy muffin or cup-cake baking paper cups. Atleast in Sweden, these are circular pieces of parchment that will flatten out neatly when you wet them. and they fit a small plate very well. For the purpose of the drawing, I am currently painting a Rohan army for Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game / Lord of the Rings!

5:20 Is that crack painted on the ceiling to give your room more character? 😂 Cheers 🍻 mate. 11:00 I’m wondering if you use wax parchment, what if you take a sheet and sandwich it between two sheets of sandpaper and place a bunch of books on it to grind small holes through it? Different grits of sandpaper could be used to provide different levels of wicking. This should last longer than unwaxed parchment paper. You could also make different sheets with varying amounts of grit or no grit so you can have a dry surface for mixing paints instead of using your finger/finger nail. Alternatively, you can just place a white bathroom tile on one side of the parchment paper for use as a dry palette. 12:00 What if you used the lid instead of the base for the wet palate? Then you can use the base to hold little cups of water. You can glue 12-20 cups to the base, fill them with water, and use them for washing brushes/thinning paints. This would reduce the number of times you would have to get clean water while utilizing more of the plastic container. If you use cups shorter than than the base of the container, they won’t smash the wet palate in the lid. If you space the cups out and cut notches into some of the cups, you’ll have horizontal stands for brushes that will allow you to place your brushes in the base in such a way that the hairs are submerged in the container base water but not smashed against the sides or bottom of the base. This will allow you to soak the brush tips allowing the pigments in them to dissolve into the water without destroying the hairs.

Great video Emil! I've seen a few other DIY/how-to-use wet palette videos, but yours went into better detail about using a wet palette and how to get the right consistency of paint once it's on the palette. I'm a pretty novice painter and I'm just about to tackle my biggest project-- a Megaboss heavily inspired by the one you posted on P&P. I doubt I'll get close to the quality of paint jobs you can create, but I'm learning so much from your channel and having a blast painting (maybe a new wet palette might help!). You're quickly becoming one of my favorite YT channels full stop. Keep up the great work!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppCyg2WQmrJ-hLc this one has the concept pretty well explained, I also used coffee stirrer to get more of the paint from my old bottles. This one didn't mention an agitator ball bearing but I found those really helpful for mixing the paints once in the dropper bottle. Metallics I usually drop 3 ball bearings into it. Most metallic paints do not contain any metal, they contain finely ground mica. It's still a bad idea to use them on your wet palette.

So on wet palette you don't thin your color, you just use some water loaded into the brush ?
@scottchristofersen2367
@scottchristofersen2367 5 жыл бұрын
Marco Iannantuono you just wet the sponge and put your paint onto the parchment paper on top of the wet sponge. The amount of moisture that comes through the parchment paper will thin the paint.

Clearly the giveaway is long over, but i figured i might as well share what I’ve been up to and in fact what I’m working on as i listen to this videos. I’m not actually a mini artist! I’ve never painted a mini, and I only own one or two that I was given by my sister. I am, instead, a doll customizer. My current little project is an MLP doll that i’m working on primarily as practice for some future customs I plan on making as a gift for a friend. I was listening to this video while working on paper maché on it :)

Also, two other "Chemistry Topic"s regarding wet palettes: 1) BUY COPPER FOIL AND PLACE IT UNDER YOUR WET PALETTE SPONGE - inside the pallet itself. 2) Consider adding a small amount of soap to the water that you put on your sponge - You may not like this because the soap can act as a flow aid. (I use "Dawn Free and Clear" in the US). This has two effects. First, soap breaks open bacteria and kills it. Second, copper has extremely strong anti-fungal effects. The result of this is very simple. Your wet palette will never mold. I have used this set up for well over 4 years and no mold, never ever. I've stored my pallets wet the entire time. I initially used "Wheat Pennies" (a high copper content US penny), but then I found it even cheaper to use copper foil. Both Work! #ILOVESQUIDMAR!

Hello! Really like watching your channel a lot! My husband and I paint quite a bit and a wet palette is something we hadn't considered before. Now that our kids are running around us like crazy, maybe one would be a good idea! We paint quite a lot actually. Painting: Nightvault, WH40K, Dreadball, Deadzone, Dread fleet, Malifaux and Infinity. But it's going super slow. Got two little creatures to take care now! Everything has been put on the back burner basically so now we are mostly focusing on our Shadow War Armageddon teams. Just finished the Skitarii and working on our Cadian Imperial Guards, Harlequins and almost done with our chaos marines.

I'm painting a big old passion project. I started painting last August and I'm trying to get my first army together for this year's Armies on Parade. It's a Halloween themed Maggotkin army and it's called 'Nurgle's Garden Party'. My rotbringers are all giant bloated orange nurglings, I've converted up my plagebearers into plaguespiders, i'm now kitbashing a few Kruleboys models with Festus and a Poxbringer. They're pumpkin farmers and it looks absolutely crazy! I've been having so much fun! Warhammer has helped me through the hardest time of my life, and i love my stinky little monsters! I know I'm a little later for the competition, but I thought I'd just share.

Hi. I'm new here, that's why I want to say hello at first. I love watching you paint, I follow your Instagram account and KZbin channel. Great technique. Currently, I'm starting the adventure with Figurines, I'm at the stage of painting Airfix Soldiers from WWII. I currently live in the UK. I have a question. Where can you buy Citadel paints in plastic bottles? I am currently using Citadel paints in small 12ml cups. Are Kolinsky brushes suitable for painting with Base Citadel paints? Today I ordered two Kolinsky brushes size 00 (2/0) and size 1. Best wishes and have a nice weekend.
