I LOVE THEM! I float all of mine. Think of the Floyd Rose like a draw bridge. The strings hold the trem up...like a draw bridge. Each string holds roughly 1/6 of the tension. This is why if one string breaks, it's all out of tune.

Question: I have a fully floating Floyd Rose 1000 (the guitar is a brand new Charvel) and it goes out of tune every time i bend on the 22nd fret. I have tried everything to solve my problem... the bridge is perfectly in level with the body, the string blocks are in perfect condition, there are no pieces of broken string in the saddle, everything is tightened on the bridge and on the locking nut. I have changed strings i think about a week ago, so the strings are new and properly set in the bridge. Have you ever had similar problems and what would you recommend me to do? And yes, the guitar stays in tune when i do divebombs, it only goes out of tune when i bend on the high e string above the 19th fret.
@seinfan92 жыл бұрын
Sounds like an intonation issue. Check to make sure your open string tones match what you see when you strum on the 12th fret. If not matching, you have to move the saddle that holds the string. If 12th fret is sharper, move the saddle towards the bottom of the guitar. If the 12th fret is flatter, move the the saddle closer to the neck.
@seinfan92 жыл бұрын
Thinking about your comment one more time, the bending action down low is actually pulling the bridge up. I don't think there's any way around that. It's just a drawback to the design you have to live with.

When leveling a bridge do you then have to mess with the intonation? I have a floyd on my Jackson JS32 where the bridge is a bit high. I want to fix this but the intonation is good and I am afraid that if I level the bridge I have to intonate the guitar. Also if I have to intonate it again, is it difficult?
@ManBunMetalHead2 жыл бұрын
It depends on how much it's currently out of level, but there's a chance you would need to adjust the intonation. I do have a video on that if you decide to try it out, kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZu5cmN4gNmkq5o. It's not that hard, just takes some patience. But really, the exact angle of your bridge doesn't matter that much as long as it doesn't affect the playability of the guitar. It just looks nicer when it's flat.
@DB-eh5bs2 жыл бұрын
@@ManBunMetalHead Ok, I might look into it when changing strings. I play with the factory strings currently which might not be ideal. Plus the slightly high bridge doesn’t really affect my playing so I guess I might leave it as it is.

@@ManBunMetalHead Hey! I have one more question about my floyd. Is it possible for me to play at Eb tuning temporarily without messing everything up? I've actually tried tuning down a half step with the guitar once and it worked perfectly and because my bridge was a bit high at E standard it didn't really mess up my bridge all that much at Eb tuning. The intonation seemed to be perfect but I got afraid that my guitar would get all messed up so I tuned up again. So would it affect the guitar in the long run if I tuned down temporarily for some songs?

I leveled my Floyd Rose bridge recently using a small level on my guitar's body on either side of the bridge, got it level on the floor, then placed the level on top of either side of the FR bridge with the strings tensioned and in standard tune. I made many spring/tuning adjustments, but to get the level on either side of the FR bridge to match what I saw on the guitar body, my spring screws are now kind of wonky. The bass side is screwed in more than the treble side. The angle of the spring plate is closer to 70° vs 90° - how bad is this and why? You mention keeping that plate straight and doing more or less equal turns for each screw. I'm using 3 springs - they are on the 3 inner hooks, one extends directly down to the center hole of the bridge/block, the outer springs attach to the outer holes of the bridge/block, leaving one hole empty between center and outer holes. The guitar seems to play ok but it and the FR system are new to me and I'm not sure how it should be.
@littlegoose98602 жыл бұрын
I went ahead and redid this keeping the screws equal. It seems good, the 3 springs are now equally tensioned more or less (based on screw length), and the bridge is more or less level by eye - didn't use a level this time. I watched another video mentioning springs and his screws were more or less equal too (spring plate also at 90°) - so I figured this must be important. I'm not sure how I wound up so off balance.
@ManBunMetalHead Жыл бұрын

@ErikAnderssen3 ай бұрын
Just so i get this straight, if i want to go from standard tuning to a DGCFAD tuning, i will need to adjust the springs in the back every time? Because now when i tuned the guitar down just before i found this video my floyd rose went low and then got to the same normal position when i tuned it back to standard tuning. Im kinda new on the floyd rose. I have 3 springs in now but i have room for 2 more if thats the isssue so i dont have to screw every time i wanna change tuning?
@ManBunMetalHead3 ай бұрын
If you want the bridge level, then yes, you'd need to adjust it if you changed tuning at all. That's the unfortunate part with floating trems. Taking out a spring could help, but it's unlikely it'd be perfect. Not to mention having less springs will change the way your trem reacts. Something you might want to consider is some sort of trem locking device. One that either locks the trem in place or prevents it from going low. The second option would prevent you from pulling up on the trem bar, but you'd still be able to do dive bombs.

@ManBunMetalHead2 жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure what you're describing. When screwing into wood they don't get cross threaded like screwing into metal since the screw basically cuts the threads into the wood. It's possible the predrilled hole was not deep enough for the screw. If you bought it at a store, wouldn't hurt to take it back and have them take a look at it.

Can you explain the rationale for blocking the bridge with the battery? I've adjusted a Floyd rose to go lower and higher and in each case I just loosened the strings, adjusted the spring tension, and retuned.
@ManBunMetalHead Жыл бұрын
I typically do it so the strings don't fight with the springs when I'm first winding the tuners up.
@roberteltze48508 ай бұрын
Without a block you are trying to balance the tension of seven things all at once, six strings and the strings. Tuning one string changes tension on the spring which changes tension on the other strings. It's a difficult balancing act. Blocking the bridge takes the springs out of the equation. You can tune all the strings without then effecting each other. Once you have them all tuned you have the correct tension on six of the items so you can remove the block and just have one tension left, the springs.

I thought this video would fix it but it’s still way too high even when I’ve screwed the screws the whole way. Do anyone have any suggestions to help me solve my problem???

How much should height differ from E to e. I'm trying to find the right point for string height but the E side is good but I find the e side is recessed

High E is supposed to be a bit higher than the low e.

@@odralebazerimar9084 I'm thinking my bridge is too low and I need to increase the neck angle with the micro tilt

great video, I just can't buy a guitar with a floating bridge tho. I would love 1 but I don't have the patience for this

Is it more optimal to have the springs in a (straight like yours)| | | pattern rather than the (V shapped) / | \ pattern?

Not really, I just prefer the look.

I’m trynna learn how to tune my Floyd rose , my uncle had tuned it for me but I noticed that the Floyd rose was going down because he just tuned it with the tuners so now I gotta fix it lol but when I put the battery where you said to put it in I got scared cause I couldn’t take it out lol but ima try cause I wanna change the tuning but it was a mistake to buy a guitar with a Floyd rose lol

1. block it up with the battery 2. Tune it 3. take battery out and get it back in tune by adjusting the spring claw. (If done properly it should be perfectly level)

I always set a Floyd flush. I use it only for diving and not all that much. It works for stability.

Nice vidéo man.. juste one question the bridge is leveled from front to Back... but is it leveled in the other way... from e string to tje other
@ManBunMetalHead2 ай бұрын
the bridge might be level side to side but it's not that important. You'll adjust the bridge pins to set the string height, and there's a good chance the low E side will be a touch higher than the high E side. but you may not even notice it.

@@ManBunMetalHead good i drop my guit in 435... and the result is exactly what you Just said.. slightly lower on my high e string... so i get a Nice touch.... but both sides are leveled from front to back .... tanks for your time

Hey man, my action is sitting a bit high after my first string change on an Ibanez RG350DX. My mate has said NOT to ever touch these two screws at the bridge but you are saying to do it. I am very confused!!!
