Thanks for taking the time to share. This was an excellent demonstration. I had an intuition that plaster of Paris could be used in the ready mix mud

Yes it’s like joint compound on steroids!

You are a very good teacher! Tinting the plaster was a great idea! Otherwise, it could of been hard to see. Well done!
@RussOlinatzPaintShow2 жыл бұрын
Hi Thank you! Yes it’s much easier to see when tinting. Then last coat switch back to white compound and you can see where indentures still are Russ

@@RussOlinatzPaintShow it came out great. I made more of a mess than you - much more actually :) but once I got it sanded down it looks great and seems really solid with the plaster mixed in.

I’m replacing a 2’x3’ area of plaster. Can I follow your directions for this? My wall is textured so I’m not concerned about a flat, smooth surface. Do I need to worry about the wall cracking down the road? Do I need to used drywall tape?
@RussOlinatzPaintShow Жыл бұрын
Hi No this is for small holes. Replace with new drywall piece and tape and float with Quik set mud! Russ

Brilliant! Is the joint compound essential? By the way, I once had a tin of pink-tinted ceiling paint that turned white as it dried. I have been unable to find more of this paint. The temporary tint was useful.
@RussOlinatzPaintShow5 ай бұрын
Yes the joint compound gives the plaster of Paris mix a nice consistency to spread. The paint u are referring to is Zinsser Ceiling Paint. Another one is Glidden Ceiling Paint. These 2 paints can be found at Lowes and Walmart. Where u from?

Could you just use joint compound without the plaster of Paris and be okay?
@RussOlinatzPaintShowАй бұрын
No use a setting mud. Apply this right before it sets and it won’t move anymore. It will still be wet but solid. If u use All Purpose mud, gravity will pull it out of hole.

Great video If you were doing a inside corner that has a gap running along it would you just pack the gap with plaster or would you use a corner bead of some type? I also asked this same question to ya on Instagram hoping for a faster reply not sure which you look at more often hope that’s ok Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Mud pie? Is it necessary to have a "mud pie?" Couldn't I just use hot water and plaster of paris?
@RussOlinatzPaintShow Жыл бұрын
Yes! It makes Plaster of Paris perform and spread like joint compound. You can work it with your blades easily. But try to mix it alone and see what happens…
