Absolutely! It makes me smile that women are looking to marry into "Old Money" as, like you, the people l have known from the "Landed Gentry" may have the stately pile but live in one wing of it because the roof leaking /costs too much to heat/paying for school fees etc. They may have the title, country house and land but money, no.

Many old money people will spend extra money for good quality clothing because it lasts and they can either get it tailored or if it's a pair of shoes they can get the soles replaced but the shoe is still rather in excellent condition.

I'm all for the move towards quiet luxury. For so long 'luxury' brands have been inflating their prices yet there's been a massive decline in quality of the materials and craftsmanship. Most 'luxury' boutiques are filled to the rafters with overpriced tat emblazoned with logos. Once you cut through the savvy marketing tricks, there is nothing special about it. If the quiet luxury trend continues, a lot of these companies are going to have to up their game and actually deliver in terms of quality.

That's because those aren't actually luxury brands... they're scams. It's all marketing, the genuinely wealthy aren't buying from those companies, they exist purely for the everyday man to "feel" rich. Try researching brands that the truly wealthy are wearing and you'll find the true luxury brands.

Funny how people think you can dress old money to be perceived as rich. I went to a private school and you can immediately tell someone else is from a wealthy background more so with their speech, enunciation, white straight teeth, manners, overseas education, etc. Growing up my parents always focused on looking polished and well kept, which I guess is what others with money are trying to do as well, not some aesthetic to mark they are from old money

No matter the economy I say no to logos. I was brought up by a southern mom and it was drilled into my head that less is more and you don’t need to shout with your clothes. For my mom it was all about being tasteful, she wore color but done in as she termed it “tastefully”. I think the quiet luxury thing is hilarious, because while we were far from being rich it was just the way most of the adults I grew up with dressed and I continue to do.

I do agree with being tasteful about how you dress! I do think we can take the benefit of embracing quiet luxury to have bigger access to nicer basics in our wardrobe, but when it does come to styling it, it does need to be tailored to you, whether you need a pop of colour somewhere or some either dainty, sparkly or nice gold jewellery, it really does depend on what compliments you and make you feel at your best ^^

False. Quiet luxury is just a fad made up by insecure people who want to look rich on the DL, as if anyone cares enough to know they're being "quietly luxurious." Very narcissistic if you ask me. Old money rich people don't care enough. They don't need to prove anything. If they don't want people to know they have money, they will wear freaking Old Navy cause that's just how much they don't care. They don't care about anyone's opinions, because they know where they come from and their social status. They really don't need to "quietly show of their money with quiet luxury items." They just don't.

As someone who falls under "old money" (at least in the US sense), I'm very confused by "old money aesthetic" and "quiet luxury" (hence why I'm searching for explainers), because everyone I know who's like me just kind of wears whatever polo shirt they grabbed out of their closet and whatever jeans or slacks were on top of the pile. I think you missed two points: 1) the Old Money aesthetic can be a lot more CONSERVATIVE than Quiet Luxury. By that I simple mean: less display of skin. QL still has room to show off some skin. The OM look, however, doesn't really. Case in point: how the royals dress, vs how Rosie Huntington Whitely dresses (I prefer Rosie, tbh, I'm not bashing her. Just saying.) 2) Old money groups like the royals DO have an overlap with QL, it just depends on the occasion. The coronation isn't a great example because it's a huge event. On a more day-to-day basis, Princess Catherine, for example, dresses a lot more low-key and doesn't have huge fabulous jewels on. She also wears a lot of colours. There IS an overlap, but I think that for special occasions, the gap becomes more visible.

Another factor is crime (which I guess is also related to the economy), especially in places like London where people are being held up in broad daylight, people wearing loud obnoxious logos are just making themselves targets. Ironically the people wearing the biggest logos tend to have the least lol Dressing in an elegant manner isn’t about standing out, it’s about being remembered.

It's called timeless for a reason. Basically it's the sum of what managed to last - in contrast to trends that come and go. It may increase in popularity and become mass compatible from time to time, but, well, that's what eventually happens to what is around for long enough time. And when the popularity decreases again, it's not the end, but just back to normal. Trends - on the other hand - emerge, and after a while they die. And when they're gone, they're gone. Until they perhaps get re-discovered and experience a revival. That doesn't make quiet luxury synonymous with old money, but both share the same kind of life cycle. In the end, time will tell. Labels just pitch. Just one thing about the style of the royals: The flashy, overdone stuff is not really representative for their style, for it's their workwear. In private, tweed and barbour are also here more common. What the royals wear, when they wave from a balcony, is just like what Gus Fring wears, when he welcomes guests in one of his restaurants. In private his style is far more sophisticated.

Old money doesn't necessarily shy away from logos and flashiness, it's just that the logos are timeless brands that are old themselves and the flash has a purpose and is of high quality. And sometimes the logos might not be as known so it comes off as quite luxury. Items may have even been passed on for old money and be old themselves. You also don't want to draw attention to yourself when the socio-economy isn't doing well as you don't want people to be attacking you as well. Things have to be cycled as people get bored as well. Loud gets irritating after a while and if the goal for some is to stand out and b unique once everyone is being bold you can get lost in the crowd and to stand out you gotta simplify. But everyone doing that for too long can also become too boring and cause people to want to see more creativity in designs. So, it will all cycle.

And the one example from of old money resembling heritage and tradition from the British monarchy, I do think that it does apply to other cultures too if they wear their heritage pieces, be it Chinese, African, Caribbean, Mexican etc, in this case, I wouldn't say its the quiet luxury/old money aesthetic, it is old money mindset and heritage thats been passed down from generations.

You have money and power (real estate/politic/finance) and you have money and culture. Old money have normally culture (and style/refinement). The kids from these families are often hip and modern og super sophisticated. The less money the more old fashioned the kids are. My experience. Its not so easy as it seams - for an outsider...

What a beautiful well done video! I love how you linked the cycles of the economy to the expression of fashion. I study the cycles of astrology and in a few months we will shift from Capricorn ( economic structure bug buisness hierarchy snd status) to Aquarius ♒️ ( community technology humanity ai) I think we will see a drastic shift in how we approach fashion and asthetics… maybe even having technology incorporated clothing? Who knows! :)

Old money is bespoke clothes for posh and country stores for everyday. My best friend old money mum lives in jodhpurs and ridding boots and scruffy fleeces. Her handbag is an ancient battered leather stuffy one. But when she dresses up she has custom made gowns in gorgeous bright colours. She is also thin and super fit. Very few aristocrats are even slightly overweight.

The important thing is being original and confident... If a person try to create her image only with random logos instantly became soulless hanger... so if you want to be classy and chic you must show of yourself and give hints about you in your combines. don't copy the logos and image of fashion companies 😊

Quiet luxury: minimalism, simplicity, high quality materials of silk, cashmere, leather Old money: traditions of past clothing, natural materials (similar to quiet luxury)

Many fashion folk lack knowledge of history and don't know that certain fabrics and colors were, for most of human civilization, ONLY available to those with wealth. Think of expensive furs before. Today silk and the color purple are accessible to most. There is NO difference between quiet luxury because other than for particular ceremonies with those traditional heirloom items those born into wealth also tend toward classic, classy pieces made metticulously of quality material. These labels themselves are just the new names for classic timeless fashion. Mostly just a marketing ploy for young minds. Old money is old and luxury has been around for thousands of years, before these marketing labels. 🙄 Mostly this is a reaction to the tacky trends and the debasement of classiness, regardless of wealth level, standards and value, pushed by media, entertainers and their ilk. Even Paris Hilton reverted back to her old money after a rebellious youth.

Quiet luxury is bland and boring 😴 ... always good to add a pop of colour in the mix ❤ Fair enough big branded logos stuck on the clothes looks super tacky that why I would go for small logos if need be. But hey dont matter ...where anything its your style and fashion as long as you feel good in them ❤😂

I’m going to wear logos and quiet luxury. The irony is that any Asthetics are indicative of exclusivity and signaling. You don’t become rich by being quiet luxurious. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

I always look at the pics of the late Princess Diana and Catherine POW. The two of them so pretty but Diana was sooo chic and Catherine no matter what she wears she looks old fashion. In the pass when she was not royal you could see pics of her (CPOW) wearing jeans, tall leather boots and her on hips wide brown leather belt. She looked even sexy (no wonder William’s eyes popped 😂). now she is well dressed but….

I'm sorry, but Byran Bone is smokimg something if he thinks thats what "real" generational wealth wears on a daily basis. Thats literally the tradittional attire the king wears during coronation. Of course everyone there will be wearing the most outlandish outfits for the event. Also the fact that he is saying to be REAL generational wealth, you practically need to be a royal? This is so false 🤣.

Its not quiet luxury if its zara, then its just minimalistic. I hate it that people made a whole personal style into a trend, not some pieces or part of the identify but just the whole looks. So in 2y when its not trendy anymore everyone can throw away their whole wardrobe which is the opposite of what people with this personal styles do

Old money is culture for wealthy white demographics. I've noticed that ABIPOC with a sense of inherited practices have a much easier time entering into high society regardless of racial biases. I also find that's part of the distain, they have all of this and they didn't need money or colonialism to hold on to it. 😅 They have an untouchable pride in themselves from it. So being a service staff to those folk doesn't hurt the way it would for someone who is isn't as lucky.

So basically you can't actually see the difference between someone dressing quiet luxury and someone dressing old money. Are you (technically) old money if you didn't grow up particularly wealthy but inherited money later in life after adulthood when an older wealthy family member died?

You've just proved it's the same thing. When it comes to these terms, people only talks about appearance. Most of the pieces of quiet luxury holds the same enduring style and quality that those worn by old money guys. Besides, old money crowd tries to blend in a bit. So... there is no difference in style. Lifestyle - it's a different story that has no relevance to the terms in question here.

I hate to say it bc it will trigger many, but being lean and slim is the ultimate quiet luxury AND old money statement. Garish large breast implants are another no no. I myself am quite small (size 2) but have D to DD breasts. This precludes me from wearing many styles, such as turtleneck or cable knit sweaters. I've wanted a reduction for years but my husband always talks me out of it😂
