I will never understand why some people feel the need to leave negative comments. In the particular situation of the binding clips she could have simply asked why you were using them with the flat side up and I’m sure you would have given her your logic for doing so just like you did in this video. Personally I love to learn and see all the ways people do things so that I can try new things and if it works for me great and if not so be it. I just will never understand why people can be such negative Nancy’s. Imagine how boring the quilting world would be if we were robots and never tried new things lol

I taught kids to read for over thirty years. I think when told there is only one way to do something, I think of all those kiddos that all learned differently! What I learned early on with quilting is the way that works for me is right way for me. For you? Maybe, maybe not. The quilting community in general is very kind and encompassing. I have met many new friends both in person and over the internet. Having more than one way to do something just means one has included someone who learns differently than you. I am thoroughly enjoying my retirement hobby. Thanks for making it fun.

Corey , thank you for a fabulous year of videos! Looking forward to 2025! Thoroughly appreciated your discussion of quilting police. As a lefty, self taught quilter who struggles with reversing things, my ways are often ‘backwards’. I truly appreciate learning new techniques even if it’s not for me. So please keep up your positive message of doing what works for you. Gratitude!

As another lefty I appreciate your comments. Very often I end up sewing and quilting differently from others. Our church quilting ladies are very accommodating and found the perfect place for me to "quilt in the other direction.

I’ve been sitting here reading the comments by my fellow quilters, and it seems a lot of us have encountered the quilt police. When I first started quilting I took quite a few in person classes at my local shop or at quilt shows. I was always the slowest sewer and the last one done, ruining a couple projects by trying to rush. I remember one class at a show. Our teacher/designer was a nice person, but was not happy with the way I chose to proceed with the project. I told her that I work best going slow and one step at a time, and that her pattern was very well documented and I could complete the quilt at home. I liked my completed quilt so much, I made another quilt, and I sent her pictures of both. She loved that I had sent pictures and she loved the quilts. As Corey said, DO YOU❣

When I sewed clothes for my daughter or myself, I would work for a couple of hours. But when I started making stupid mistakes, it was time to quit and walk away from the machine. ( sometimes they were really funny mistakes, like the time a shoulder dart got sewn to the back seam instead and looked as if it was for a wing. I laughed so hard, I cried. Knew I was too tired and stopped. ). So sometimes you just need to go do something else, or go to bed, and come back the next day. I have just recently found your Saturday shows and I’m enjoying them. Really like your A Bloom fabric. Thanks Deborah Powell

Beautiful video, Corey! You are so gracious and humble. I love your answer to the last question. I love how your reframe your reply to those who think they "know best". While I have not had this happen to me, I have certainly witnessed these nasty folks (that you so diplomatically refer to as "quilt cops") comment on others' work, etc. It really enrages me because these mean spirited comments can have the effect of breaking the recipient's creative spirit. I have to sit back and think that the nasty folks are truly miserable folks lacking in kindness. Sad, really sad! Love that you stay "YOUR" course. Happy New Year!

Love the Saturday videos! I never knew that folding quilts on the bias was a thing - I’ll keep that in mind next time I fold a quilt. Also, polyester thread started to be used in 1955, so heirloom quilts are definitely made with cotton thread. Thanks for all that you do for this group!

"Coffee with Corey". My Favorite. If I am in a slump, I do piecing, collage quilting ( animals and flowers ), and read the Bible. I also plant in the spring. In the dead of winter I used to play World of Warcraft , but I found that it does not go with what the Bible teaches me. I also exercise to get my blood going and bones to stop hurting, along with taking aspirin. I amuse myself with budgets, and lists for groceries, what I have in my pantry, and how to save money. I make my own laundry soap, and my own fabric softener. My own orange cleaning solutions. Sometimes , I just watch Downton Abbey. Love you always Corey. God Bless You and Your Family.

So funny the way you use the wonder clips that way. I also use my wonder clips with the flat sides up. I hand bind and it just seems to hold the binding together better. I could never criticize the way someone does something because my brain just does not work the same as others. I have a hard time following a pattern and things tend to turn out a bit differently. I just think it becomes my design. Lol. HAPPY NEW YOU FELLOW QUILTERS!

I do quilt my own quilts. I have a machine with a longer throat. I have quilted a king size quilt on my own machine. I'm getting ready to do another for my son. I only feel proficient using meander or loops quilting. The most important thing to me is to get the quilt sandwich tightly stretched so it won't bunch up under the needle. I have a table from joanns that I stretch my quilts on. I use binder clips from the office supply store to hold the sandwich in place until I can safety pin it. Then I move the quilt all around until I get it pinned all over. This method works well for me.

That is so funny about your usage of wonder clips. I found they are easier to remove as I’m sewing along at a good clip when they’re used flat side up.. it’s just how my plate is on my machine.. I have a couple machines.. they work different on them…sometimes people need to be right.. but it would be great if everyone accepted that others do things differently without having to ‘tell’ you… 👮👮 🤣🤣

For the person worried about bleeding fabrics…there is a product called Color Grabber. These look like dryer sheets and you put a couple of them in the washing machine and they collect any color in the water that comes from the fabric. Give them a try. I find them at Walmart and they come in a box kind of like dryer sheets.

Loved watching your last video of 2024, the Q&A was informative and fun. I could nor help but notice the basket on the shelf near the milk pitcher. I recognize the basket. For years I was a collector of the Longaberger baskets. It was more like an obsession. I have over 100 baskets plus the pottery of both Longaberger and Henn. I made several tours to the factories and shops in Ohio. I miss the smell of those new baskets, but now look forward to the feel of a newly made quilt before I give it away. Wishing you an easy, uneventful move into your new home. Looking forward to more of your videos in 2025. Good Saturday to you Corey and family 😊. I was doing just as you said and listening while doing other things until you came to the subject of quilt police. I had a terrible experience with that for my very first quilt class. Let me be clear… first class, I didn’t even have a rotary cutter. It was a log cabin quilt in a day class. The instructor said she’d help me select fabrics and then poo pooed every selection I made. Apparently she’d had quilts judged in Paducah and felt pretty good about herself As it turned out I was the only one in the class out of 10 that had never quilted before. No thanks to her, I love my quilt because I love my colors and fabric selections. Good news, that was about 9 years ago and she didn’t stop me. And… I also use wonder clips that exact way! I do like how flat they stay on top, but they also ride smoother on the bed of my machine ❤

I have quite a few antique quilts and it's not the thread that breaks down, it's the fabric. I've never seen one with thread that has broken down. Sometimes seams will come apart, but that's generally from a cut or tear in the fabric.
@dianekraemer598919 сағат бұрын
I inherited a lot of thread from my aunt and mother. Much of it was very old (some still on wooden spools!) My aunt kept her thread in a drawer, and it seems to be in good shape. My mother kept hers in an open box on a table in her sewing space. Her thread wasn't so nice as it had collected a lot of dust and dirt. It's is my opinion that the life of thread has a direct correlation with how it has been stored. I love your fabric and videos. I'm signed up for the mystery quilt coming this summer. Hurry up summer. Happy New Year! Di.

Thread that is stitched in is different from using a thread that is old, due to the tension of a sewing machine. I do love to starch, but then for me is part of the process, and I think it helps reduce shrinkage when washing, because a lot of the shrinkage occurs pre-sewing, and most of the shrinkage occurs one way on the fabric. Mostly on the width of fabric, than the lengthwise grain. Thankyou for another wonderful year! And hope the move is as pain free as possible. Hugs, Chel 🌸

I machine quilt all of my own quilts. My tip is to practice doodling 3 to 5 free motion designs such as loops, meander and swirls. Keep doodling. You will develop muscle memory and will soon be proficient in these 3-5 designs. The size of your stitches will become more consistent with practice. A supreme slider and quilting gloves are very helpful. Also, you may have to adjust the tension. Don’t be afraid to do this.
@rebeccamulkern10513 сағат бұрын
@@Linda-fs3ex yes, I had to adjust my tension from the factory setting of 2 to almost 6 when I was FMquilting, then my loops didn’t have the eyelash effect on the back, i actually forgot to adjust the tension back for straight stitch and it was absolutely fine, so now , for my machine, the tension is the same high number and works great! Each machine is different

As to the thread expiration question: plastic spools help thread last longer than wood; polyester thread won’t deteriorate as quickly as cotton; and climate is important. BTW, I use my wonder clips the same way. Upside down. 😂
