Love your čas and how they watch your every move! How cute. Great tips!

Kitties must feel very "at home" in the hobby room -- they make the videos enjoyable because of the unexpected visits. AND using old cabinets for storing those fabrics, or using as tables for whatever is a great idea for the quilting room.

Yes, although we no longer have our beloved Charlie. Teeka is older and spends most of her time sleeping in her favourite chair upstairs but does still join me off camera for visits in my studio.

Excellent and clear explanation of how a sweing cabinet should be! I have one third of the space you show but I'll be able make a good use of it. Thank you Madam !

Thanks for watching. I'm glad you found it helpful. You don't really need a big space for a studio, but it is nice if you have some room (although I always seem to fill it up!). Kim

Am in the process of setting up a small first floor room into my sewing room. I knew I needed the three areas that you explained. I have collected a ton of fabric and need storage. The studio also needs to share the space with a large massage chair as well as a staircase coming into the room. You gave me a lot of ideas to set it up. Thanks! I would like to get a sewing table that makes the bed of the machine even with the surface of the table. My old machine was in a cabinet that had the bed of the machine flat. I really miss this option, so am looking at inexpensive ways to accomplish it.

You might be able to find a used cabinet through online websites. Mine is used and so I saved some money there. You need to watch that the opening is large enough to accommodate your machine (8900, I believe?). You need to get a table that has a lift in it or the ability to lower the area that holds the machine. I also have a Gidget sewing table that currently houses my 8900. It isn't too $$$ and folds down if you need to store it. You can see details at www.arrowcabinets.com/shop/brand/arrow-cabinets/gidget-ii-table/.

Very good advice! I am working on my studio, so I appreciated the ideas. The cats cracked me up because I not only have very interested kitties, but a ferret as well. They love to run around in the sewing room and get into mischief because they know it is supposed to be off limits to them! I just have to keep all dangerous things out of their reach.

Yes, that is why I have my snips, scissors and rotary cutters in a drawer - it's like having toddlers in the house! A ferret - I imagine that he/she could get into all kinds of tiny spaces. Would make a unique addition to my videos if I had one ;)

Hi Kim, Your Quilt Studio Set-up is also great for a sewing studio also. I am now going to watch your other episodes. Thank you for your guidance. I am in the process of creating my 1st studio. God Bless and Happy Quilting!

I'm glad you found the advice helpful, Valerie! You're right - this information would also be helpful for a sewing studio. Don't forget to check out Ikea for great organizational items and furniture for your studio. They're prices are always good.

Good News! Greetings Kim, I am a great fan of Ikea. Ikea finally came to FL. We have one up the street in Tampa. I have furniture that are new to 27 years old. I am looking into using them in my studio. Oh! thank you so much for responding. Have a Dark Chocolate and Tea with me. :-) Happy Sewing and God Bless Seeds to Sew Valerie

Yay! Ikea in Tampa! I love going there and always seem to come home with something. They really do have great pieces for a sewing/quilting studio - just seem to work for fabric storage, thread storage, etc. I am disappointed that they no longer have the Antonius carts with wheels and a solid top. They have these for laundry bins, but no tops of wheels anymore. They were very economical and you could pull the bins out of them to carry your projects around in. I have three of these in my house - two in the studio and one for polymer clay craft things (my son was into this at one time). I'll look forward to see what pieces you get for your sewing studio, Valérie :) Now off to get that chocolate and tea!

Hi Debbie: Thanks for watching. This is actually one of my patterns, Tweet Heart, which you can find in my pattern store at www.chatterboxquilts.com/store/tweet-heart. There are two table runner patterns included in Tweet Heart.

II learned from Eleanor Burn, that the ironing board should be cover with strips or pled so you can press the fabric strait, as wll for the same reason the design wall.

Good idea about using stripes or plaids to line up your fabrics. I could see that this might be very helpful on the design wall. Thanks for the information :)

I love Teeka and Charlie! You have such a professional voice. I wonder if you did anything in your outside work life involving using it, like voice overs or announcing? Anyway, showing the cats as a vital part of your sewing studio made it so wonderful and practical, since that is how so many of us have in our studio spaces, too. Thanks for a great video. Even though I have my areas set up, I am constantly readjusting and reorganizing since I get in more fabric and notions and I also use the areas for papercrafting. This was still helpful because it made me focus on the three main areas first and foremost. Thanks!

Ergonomically speaking, your chair should be low enough that there is no pressure on the underside of your thighs, as this can lead to leg pain, and fatigue.
@Chatterboxquilts10 жыл бұрын
blackstonecat Thanks for elaborating on the chair ergonomics. I also find that it's a good idea to get up and walk around every so often to avoid lower back pain. This serves as a reminder to readjust my posture as this tends to get worse the longer I sew.
