The star quilt you showed was my very first handpiece quilt. Mine was done with my two daughters leftover dresses fabric. I feel that you should hand quilt, but do big stitch quilting with crochet thread. It goes very fast and you love how the color is there.

Cute quilts! I agree with Taylor - machine quilt your paper pieced star quilt & enjoy! If you want to hand quilt - start with something smaller (just a thought).

My mom gave both my sister and I paper pieced and hand quilted Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts for wedding gifts. Queen size! At 15 years of use, both began to disintegrate. This was before "quilting cotton". I took it recently to a long armer to see what could be done. She said if it had originally been quilted with an all over to give it more structure, it likely would have lasted so much longer. Decide how you will use your quilt before you put the effort in to hand quilt it.
