Bundle of batiks! Suggested topic… I do alot of improv piecing with odd shaped scraps. I finally had enough 5” squares. I used those squares in a disappearing 9 patch, using a black print in middle square, improv blocks in outside corners, light in middle outside squares. I really enjoy your videos and your “opinions”😊

Bundle of batiks! These batiks would make lovely charity quilts that will warm and comfort a needy child or adult. I am wondering if you have or will do a video on labeling quilts. My daughter in law received 6 beautiful hand stitched antique quilts her grandmother made back in the 20s or 30s I presume. I wish they were labeled so we knew for sure. It would make appraising easier. Again, thank you for all your inspiration.

Maureen, that pattern for the table topper not the Christmas tree skirt, by Atkinson designs, was the very first quilted item I ever made. That is what got me hooked on quilting back in 2010. I made a Halloween table topper and I changed every other triangle into candy corn colors. The friends I gave it to love it even though I look at it and shudder, especially when I see the binding. They are great for using scraps of larger prints. I just finished my grandson's apron. Christmas print on one side, and cute animals on the other. It's not a quilt, but it can use up some of those big prints that I don't want to cut too small.

Quilting friends are also a great way to share various parts of quilt making. I love to plan and piece and quilt. But my arthritic hands don't enjoy cutting and binding. I have a friend who does a great job cutting and binding. (She also pieces ooodles of quilt tops.) So, we join together and help each other complete a lot of quilts! In 2024 alone, the two of us completed 61 Quilts of Valor, and we both enjoyed it immensely. Add to this, our friendship grows and grows each year. We even share our scraps, so when we get tired of piecing with the same fabrics, we swap. Or, if one of us runs out of an appropriate color to match what we have, we call on the other person and ask if they have anything that will work. Usually, the answer will be yes!

What great way to set a goal…determine that you will use up this bag of scraps. I brought a pile home from a guild meeting and have made 20 6.5” blocks so far. I would estimate there are enough scraps to make at least 15 more blocks! Even though I am tired of looking at them I will use them up!

I try to make at least one quilt a year with my scraps …I like to cut them down into 10”, 5”, 2.5” squares and 2.5” and 1.5” strips so when I’m ready to start a project they are already in pieces that are regularly used . Bundle of Batiks ☺️

Bundle of Batiks - I've made the quilt you demonstrated today but with 2 2/2" accent strips. I like yours much better. I think I'm going to have to make it again using your measurements. I have accumulated so many scraps that I'm on my 2nd year of "no-buy fabric" unless I need a blender or backing and sometimes I even piece the backing. I don't really need more scraps but I love batiks and have used most of my batik scraps.
