I really like the quilted journal covers. I use to be a quilter and I am addicted to fabric. I was going to have a yard sale to sell all my fabric because I don' do large quilts anymore. It is to hard on my heart. But I have now changed my mind about selling my fabric after watching your video. TFS

It would be great to make that a 'school' themed journal. Lots of children's writing paper, flashcards, report cards, workbook papers, etc. I hated school and homeschooled my own kids but there must be some people (or teachers) who have fond memories of public school.

I got this exact same fat quarter bundle from Modern Quilter in January. Last week I made 3 journal covers out of it. We were working on the same thing pretty much at the same time. I used firm interfacing for my “guts” I didn’t enjoy sewing through it. I’ll try a folder next time. I love how you quilted through yours. Sending big hugs! 😘💜🤗

When you tear, you are tearing the straight of grain. When they cut they just cut what they ‘thought’ was straight. Before you use a fabric tear the cut edges so you have straight of grain! 😜 clear as mud!? Love these!

So funny Teresa! I just wrote that explanation out in a way that I hoped made sense, and then saw that you had done a better job😊 Yes, I always tear a small strip off to establish the straight of grain and then measure from there for 2 straight edges 😜 Lovely covers Gayle!!! Take care, Laurel 💖
@LynsAlteredArts

Lollipop C I’m glad to know this. That’s why when I was trying to tear a strip about an inch and a half wide to make a tie closure it ended up going down to a point by the time I got to the end of the strip, so now it’s tag toppers. 😂 I didn’t know why it went to crooked.

Love the Timmy fabric! I have found when doing quilted covers it is easier to stitch the fabric and batting only and then glue the quilting to the envelope. It’s the same way you do quilted pillow tops and wall hangings. Thank you for the “Happy Gayle” videos keeping us entertained and educated during these times of trials.

I don’t have the whatsitcalled.., batting? The in between stuff. I do have some plasticy poofy stuff that was used in a package I received, you know the stuff used to fill a box so what’s inside doesn’t bounce around and/or get scratched. I think that’ll do the trick! Have a good day Gayle ❤️

I like the idea of doing a lot of covers to just have available. For some reason I am a little scared of covers, so doing them in advance - at least the bare bones - is super exciting to me. I don't have any batting, but I do have a ton of felt squares that I will never use so I think they will make a good sub. TFS, Gayle.

Aw Gayle, I knew as soon as you tore that fabric, you had wanted that one part to be the front. 😕. You recovered though and the cover came out great. Idea for you, pull out a couple of the small clips and use them to hold your pocket on. No pins needed. 😊 I kept watching those fingers! You know why 🤣 Great idea about the fabric Tac on the edges! I can tell you’re still struggling a bit with the meds. I am sending you big hugs 🤗 and squishes, and peaceful thoughts. Thanks so much for sharing how you do this.

I've been meaning to try your method of making covers, but didn't have an envelope. I used a piece of card stock and it worked nicely although smaller. I love how you "quilted" the gorgeous TH fabric. Very clever with super impact. I just finished my first attempt at the Slow Stitching process and used that as my cover. It's looking pretty nice if I say so myself! I glued the edges too (using Art Glitter Glue) and just to be sure, I ran a glue stick across the edge. I don't have any stitch fix. Thanks again for a super video! Your work is always beautiful and inspirational!! Take care.

I love the quilting, I might have to try this. I don’t think I already own any fabric that would be conducive to it but I’ll have to look. Haven’t been much for sewer other than shortening pants, because I’m short and I’ve never found a pair pants the right length, and sewing paper. But, what can it hurt, all I would ruin is one piece of fabric, I actually have batting and I probably have envelopes but if I don’t they’re pretty easy to come by so be no huge loss if I screw it up.

I love the co-ordinating fabrics. I think that the map one is my faviorite !!! I have an envelope that one of my purchase's came in. It's outside is straw paper and the inside is bubbel wrap. I have split it open to fold like a journal. I'm thinking of making a fabric journal cover with it. I tested it to see how easy it would be to pop the bubbles. It was difficult, so I think it would be fine. What do you think ?

Gayle, I have a question. I bought a really cute quilt at a thrift store several months ago with the intention of using it to make journal covers and other fun stuff. I cut it up into journal size pieces. My question is: I was thinking about using one of the "covers" as a removable cover. The trouble is I'm not sure how to put the signatures in so that they are removable? The quilt pieces obviously don't have an envelope inside, or anything else to give it stability so it would be difficult to use elastic bands. Any ideas or thoughts on this? If not, I guess I'll have to sew the pages in. Thanks!!! Keep up the good work! I watch you everyday with my morning smoothie!!! Stay safe!! :)
@gayleagostinelli_ct
@gayleagostinelli_ct 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe instead of elastic bands you could use a strip of fabric, muslin or sari silk wrapped around the spine and tied? Then you could control the tension on the quilted cover. Worth a try anyway. 😁❤️
