Nicole if you are quilting it will shrink the material so if you cut the cork larger before you quilt it then cut it down to your template that would solve the lignin issue

The zipper issue is definitely the nature of the tape and trying to make it curve. You notice how nice and flat your interior zipper on the pocket is. Similar to putting a square in a round hole . the extra bulk has to go somewhere, so it waves.

The reason it vexes me is because about 50% of the time the zipper isn’t wavy, which is why I think it’s a quality situation. The thicker/nicer tapes tend to lay flat where the thinner tapes wave.

To help prevent wavy zipper tapes, try ironing, each side of the zipper, tape, not the metal, but ironing each side of the zipper tape prior to assembly

hi, just watched your video. love the new zipper. I did the ENDesigns Andora bag and did a little hack. I did the pattern on the top part in fabric and I quilted it. I love the fabric and felt that one too many zippers was taking away from the fabric. Sew, i quilted it and left out one zipper and it looks wonderful. a great video

Love this bag! Thanks for the tip on edge coat for cork. I have made a few zipper plackets and had those hairs 😉 tried the lighter but didn’t really work. I will take the time to edge coat in the future!

Hi Nicole. I've watched other sewing ladies, and one gal said if you iron your zipper tape, it sets it, and it won't buckle. She was making a laptop quilted bag with the zipper on a diagonal, and it looked straight. I love your quilted cork and that thread.

No sometimes it’s wavy on non quilted panels too. I think it’s the tape itself.

In order to avoid the wavy zipper, I would cut snips in the curve of the fabric and try to "spread" it so the zipper is sewn in a straight line, if that makes sense.

My concern with that is once the panel is allowed to go back to its normal shape that it would cause more waves because it’s be stretched/laid in the opposite direction (I hope that makes sense). The ease of the curve is downward so the snips would fold in on themselves once the panel is flipped RSO…

Yeah, I see what you mean but this method works for me every time, I get the zipper to sit flush with the edge of the fabric, even for very tight curves. I usually work with vinyl so it should work on cork too. You know what they say, practice makes perfect, just test it on a scrap piece and see how it works for you. I am by no means a bag designer but I like to draw my own patterns and I need to test a lot before I cut into the nice fabric 😅 This is a method I learned from all of you wonderful people that decided to share your knowledge with us and I want to thank you for that!

I recently saw a creator, and 8 don’t remember who, say the ripple in the zipper comes from tugging or pulling on the zipper after you’ve sewn in. Maybe trying to prep it for top stitching. Is it stretching perhaps?

what makes sewing templates so expensive? it looks like just some acrylic. I'm sure someone with a CNC machine could cut one out for very cheap if you gave them the csv file!
