Holy cow! What great finds. My most productive estate sale of a quilter had an entire sunroom of fabric yardage and fat quarters. The garage had kits, and tables of jelly rolls, layer cakes, etc. You could buy a kitchen sized trash bag for $30 and cram it as full as you could. I spent a couple of hours going through the fabric and very carefully folding and arranging it into the bag. When I got home I weighed the bag and had managed to get 35 pounds of fabric into the bag! I had yardages I have used as backings on several quilts, neutrals for scrappy backgrounds and loads of 30’s fat quarters. It was SO much fun!!

I agree with you, how can you criticize a woman who was so productive, artistic, and creative? Her interests were so varied, you know she had her finger in alot of pies, as the saying goes. My favorites were the Japanese fabrics and the dolls that we only got a glimpse of. Beautiful fabric...i was drooling over the fat quarters and the wool. She had big ideas...and big dreams!

As an “older” quilter, I have to tell you that it was heartwarming to see a younger woman like you appreciate the quilter’s estate sale haul. That woman’s work and collections will be treasured and perhaps finished or passed on to someone else. I fear everything of mine will be thrown in the trash when I’m gone! I enjoyed this so much.

Thank you so much, Colleen! I hope she would be happy to know that the treasures she collected were valued after she passed. We never know what will happen to our stuff when we're gone, but I'm hopeful that all of our stash will be discovered and enjoyed by our fellow crafters out there, one day! In the meantime, we get to enjoy it!!

I watched every bit of this video. I even saved it to watch again. I am so glad that you are giving this quilters things a new home. I am 71 and seeing the amount of projects that the woman had was a wake up call for me to stop buying things and try to finish as much of what I have before starting other things. It was wonderful to see a younger person so excited to find quilting things to use and give a good home. Thank you for sharing.

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you for rescuing all of the wonderful quilt stash. The person must have been a prolific quilter and crafter. Wow! Her room was full. All those books: gimme gimme gimme! I bet there were some nice vintage ones. I have the same Primitive Gatherings Garden BOM, otherwise I would purchase it from you. Mine is still sitting in the closet. Enjoy all your goodies!

I have tons of fabric, sewing, quilting, needlework, spinning, weaving, and lots of other supplies, tools, machines... Awesome!!! You got so many wonderful fabric, kits and books at the estate sale. You are one lucky girl. I have a lot of the same books in my collection and treasure them dearly. I have made the Snowbound quilt by Jan Patek, I get it out every winter. There's not enough time to make all the quilts and projects I want to and I hope someone who loves sewing will want all my things when I'm gone and my kids have an estate sale. So happy you found some great treasures!
@OliviaBFlosstube
@OliviaBFlosstube 8 ай бұрын
Thanks, Bonnie! It's so amazing that you've made that quilt. These books really are treasures. These designers are so creative and every quilt in those books is so distinct and different that it amazes me. You're right, there's not enough time to make all of them, so I'm going to aim to enjoy the ones I do get to make. I didn't see any large completed quilts in her home, just WIPs and some small wall hangings, so I think her family must have kept her finished quilts to treasure, which makes me happy.

Olivia, When you said you needed to bring honor to this woman's stash you had me. I am a quilter and often wonder what will happen to the thousand's of $$$$$ I have invested in my hobby. I have a wonderful sewing room that I flatter myself any quilter would be in heaven visiting. I have a Singer 7 drawer treadle machine that is complete with two instruction booklets and the box of pressure feet and bobbins. My daughter is a master seamstress who does alterations, I hope she will treasure this one thing. Thank you for bringing us along on your treasure hunt and bringing honor to this woman's treasures. Now that I have found you're channel I will be subscribing.

I have some of that house flannel. The store sample had the house blocks cut out with alternate log cabin blocks. It's still waiting for me to make into a quilt 😂

Wow, Olivia! What finds! I went to a sale once where a quilter/teacher was downsizing because of a move from IA to AZ. I bought so much, and have used a fair amount of it. She sold by weight, so you just put your finds on a baby scale, and I think it was $6 per pound. I have since given some of it away to a group of women who sew baby quilts for different groups.

That's awesome, Connie! I can't imagine I'll get around to using everything I bought, but I'll find some good homes for it eventually, and enjoy it in my stash in the meantime.

I just found you and I love your Vlog. And I agree with everyone else. It's wonderful to see you go and by the stuff from the Quilter's house. I am older and I tell my kids please don't just throw all my fabric away. Someone will love it.

I found your channel today and so enjoyed your treasure finds. A three yard quilt would be a great quilt for the Japanese fabric in my opinion. Haven't finished the video just yet, but I will continue. Thank you so much for sharing!

Hi, Olivia! This was such a fun video, and also very humbling as well. I’m so happy that someone who truly loves and appreciates all the treasures this lady had and enjoyed throughout her life is now honoring them and getting so much joy from them…it’s just beautiful! I’m sure your friend Mattie will appreciate getting to share in them as well. 🥰 Even though I am not a quilter, I sure enjoyed seeing all those gorgeous fabrics and the beautiful things that lady had made. Thank you so much for sharing your joy with us! ❤ Meline

What a wonderful legacy of quilts and hand work. Shelters and places like Police ir Fure Departments can use small quilts to gift to children who are sometimes remanded to their care or due to fires or accidents.

I don't need or even want anything for quilting, enough here to last a lifetime and I've already downsized. But I still would have bought stuff 🤣🤣🤣 Such a great collection of all that I love!

How great for you to have rescued some of the woman's WIPs along with all that gorgeous fabric. If you do find time to make project bags, I would buy one in the blue teacup fabric. Great score! I'm so happy for you!

I'm not sure that's true. I think it's likely that they kept the quilts that she made, but preferred to pass along her stash.

What a fantastic video!! You found some real treasures in fabrics, books, and projects. I especially love the Japanese fabrics with the beautiful ladies, so gorgeous. You had a couple of fabrics from the second day that I think you said were in with Jo Morton fabrics, and they were beautiful florals with stripes/borders. I wonder if they would be pretty with a print of the Japanese ladies used in the quilt top like a panel and then add fabrics to them like the florals, etc to make a quilt top. I love to piece quilts and I did an applique block when you taught that online using a Blackbird book. I do have a QAL that is applique but it is not my favorite thing to do even though I absolutely love the look of it. You are going to have so much fun going through every thing and deciding what to make first! Beautiful fabric is truly a big rabbit hole to fall down, but I truly love it. I have not been doing much cross stitch since I found quilting - I absolutely love it!! Have fun with all of your beautiful finds. It does make me sad that some people are so eager and ready to judge a collection of this lady who we know truly enjoyed what she did and loved everything that she collected!! I am so glad that you were able to save some of her treasures and give it all a good home!! Happy quilting………………..
