Oh my goodness. I bought both sizes years ago , the first year they were at a quilt show where I saw them demonstrated. The acrylic base was clear at that time. There was no youtube channel then and when I got home I could not remember I had to use the lined ruler to set up the cut. So they have sat on my shelf, in full site, for about 7 or 8 years just catching dust. I now have extreme arthritis in my fingers, hands and wrists so cutting is very hard for me. I have to use two five pound weights to hold the lined ruler in place but it still shifts sometimes. I am so excited that I stumbled onto your tutorial today on how to use them. Mine are still in perfect shape and now that I know the tricks I will start using them tomorrow to cut my next quilt. I make about two a month so I am so excited to be able to use them and cut easier now. Thank you, thank you. I knew they were a great invention back then and I knew to keep them safe and level all these years. Yippee.

Oh I am so sorry that you had them all this time and weren’t able to use them! Please let me know what you think of them when you use them to cut your next quilt!

One important point that I was taught years ago, is that the slidelock's handle is not centered. Always place the Quilter's Slidelock so that your rotary cutter is against the *wider* side of the slidelock. This puts more distance between the rotary blade and your hand.

This is shear genius!! I have just got back into quilting and I am already feeling pain in my left hand from pushing down on the regular ruler. I used the large one for the first time today, and it is a game changer! I press down lightly, and it holds everything securely with no need to more my hand up the ruler. Thank you both for this amazing tool. I look forward to getting the 14 inch also.

Thanks for pointing out one doesn't have to push down hard on the SlideLock. Good to know. I've definitely been pushing down too hard.

I agree that a lined ruler paired (v. using mat) with this cutting edge is a better practice...matts warp over time. Because the Slidelock stays put, once you have aligned your measurement (and squaring with fabric at bottom) on your ruler, firmly butting it against the Slidelock assures that it will not move. I do have some antislip table on my Slidelock to bolster its anti-slip.

These are a great idea. I put a weight down at the end of my fabric but my fabric still seems to move sometimes. I just thought it was because I’m still new to everything sewing and I was pushing to hard. I think I’ll add this to my sewing wish list 😊

Hi, I just purchased the 24" slidelock and now watching your video how it's constructed. Great invention! My question: Will the bumpers need to be replaced at some point due to lack of suction? Thank you
@karencollier6409 Жыл бұрын
I’d like to know answer to your question too about the bumpers. These look so impressive, but worried after a couple years they would start slipping.
@FirstHusbandofQuilting Жыл бұрын
The bumpers should not lose their grippy properties, as the “grip” comes from the chemical properties of the material, not any adhesive applied to them. However, if you feel like they are losing their grip, just send us an email and we can send you some new bumpers.

I had it slip one time but can’t recall what I was doing. I will pay more attention to where I am holding it. You keep calling it a ruler but it’s really not 😂. I also didn’t get the wavy lines. I LOVE that!
@sewbeitquilts Жыл бұрын
I know!!! It isn’t a ruler! Every time I say it I cringe on the inside because it is confusing! I hope it doesn’t slip on you again. Just make sure it is pressed down enough to contact the fabric.

@@sewbeitquilts It doesn’t matter. What ever you have. I’d rather clear. I don’t know what color the 14 in I ordered today was in. But it doesn’t make a difference. I think this will help me with cutting blocks and strips for quilting. My fear is not cutting straight and my quilt coming out looking like a clown. Whatever you think is fine with me. Also, what template you spoke about in the quilt pattern is it the 14 in or do you have specific template for that beautiful pattern. I downloaded tonight. Thank you

This is what I’ve been looking for. I’m 73, wanting to start quilting. I’m new at sewing, embroidering. Now I want to quilt. My cutting fabric Is horrible. I can’t sew straight line for the life of me. My fear is buying g beautiful fabric and my sewed fabric is wonky and so crooked , I’d not be able to use it. I don’t want to buy cheap fabric that I don’t like to start then what’ll I do with it. I’m wondering what’s the size I need to get started? I have limited strength due to back injuries and surgeries with on going pain. So I know this would help me tremendously for cutting. Also, I have 5 different rotary cutters. No matter what blades I put in, I never ever get clean cut. Frustrating. Lastly, what do you use to keep fabric straight while sewing with correct measurements. Again, I’ve tried magnets,tape,anything to get a straight 1/4 in cut. Nothing comes out like it should. At this point I’m about to stop trying and give it up. Help! I can’t buy 2 rulers at one time but to start off which one? Thank you so much!!!!
