QUINCY JONES & VALERIE SIMPSON Bridge Over Troubled Water.wmv

Music maestro Quincy Jones alongside Valerie Simpson with one of my favorite covers of Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Incidentally this was a song covered at least 25 times within it's first year of release, which was 1970.
My personal favorite version has still got to be Aretha Franklin's, which she recorded on her "Aretha Live at Fillmore West", in 71,..closely followed by this gem!

This arrangement is over 50 years old and I would put it against any recording of the same tune. The dynamics are perfect. The voice is heavenly. The guitar sends me to some neverland. The horns are magnificent. 3:48 What a perfect mix.

I was a freshman in college and I was sitting in the lounge doing my homework and this cut came on and I was paralyzed. I grew up on Motown and now I was branching out and becoming acquainted with Jazz. Well this took me out. I have only written one fan letter in my life. I ran to the counter looked at the credits and and wrote Valerie Simpson a twenty page letter. This version and Aretha's are at the top of the heep. God Bless Valerie and the late Nick Ashford.

@polishblacksoul, He is certainly very gifted, when you look back and check his body of work over the years, how he's embraced new musical technology decade after decade and still held on to his musical integrity! The man is simply a "Musical Genius" who we should celebrate whilst we still have him!..Cheers!
