Worst part is back then people who knew nothing about punk subculture of punk rock took this seriously. Remember Class of !984? There was even an anti-punk parent group called Parents of Punkers.

Yup. Quincy was proto-CSI early on. It started out as CSI about 20 years before CSI was a thing, about investigating crimes with science. Then in the later seasons it turned into one soapbox after another, trying to preach on various issues. . .whether it was punk music or a new piece of legislation that the production staff wanted to advocate for, the later episodes were basically just a weekly lecture.

I saw this episode when it first came out. I was never into Punk, but even then I thought the episode was over the top ridiculous. An embarrassment to the show. Even as I watch this clip here, I cringe . The real assholes were the ones that wore the same stupid uniform of Levy's blue jeans and matching jacket with the back of it painted with either an album cover art or names of rock bands written there ("Pink Floyd", "Led Zeppelin", etc...). if anything, the punks represented disconformity and the want for change instead of listening to the hard rock crap radio stations of the time.
