All he have to do is finish the race in the finals and he'll make either the 4x400 or 4x400 mixed relay. I'm pulling for this young man!

He has to be in the top 3 at trials to make the team and be automatically eligible for the relay poole. Just finishing the race doesn't give him a spot. And do you really think the relay coaches will choose a high school student for such a serious and coveted event if he doesn't come in top 3? Especially with Noah actively campaigning and the depth of talent in the field who are older and more mature? This young man is outstanding, but soooo many times these young phenoms get on the world stage and freeze. Look at Sydney back in Rio. I would not put that responsibility on him. People want to jump from 1 to 100. Let him earn his spot first. Step one comes before step 2.

@@kpat3052 .....The top 4 finishers comprise the 4x4; plus 2 substitutes. The remaining 3 finishers comprise the mixed 4x4. Noah can campaign all he'd like, but he's not beating out a true 400m runner for a spot; he's going to do the (if at all) 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. And, Sydney did not freeze, she got sick. If Quincy earns his spot on the team, it cannot be taken away from him because of his age, maturity or experience.

@Bronxxxnyc respectfully, you are incorrect. I refer you to the interview that the 2 lead relay coaches did with Citius, where they went in depth about the US relay selection process. Top 3 are automatic, and they get 2 discretionary choices from athletes that competed at the US trials. They did not specify the mixed relay, but I looked that up, and they can choose anyone for that event who competed at trials. I do not know where your info came from, but it was mentioned several times that these are the rules in an Olympic year. I also found info that the rules changed a couple of years ago. My comments were based on this information as it came directly from the head couches. As for the high school athlete, I clearly said that we should wait and see how he performs and if he makes top 3. If he does not make top 3, I do not think he will be chosen due to youth and inexperience, which they specifically talked about in this interview. I tried my best to fact-check each of my statements for accuracy. Have fun doing the same.

@Bronxxxnyc additionally regarding Noah, he can run in the rounds and be replaced by a faster athlete in the finals. That is a possibility and he would still get gold. Freeman specifically talked about this in her interview too. She stated that in the prelims they will do a site check for fitness and will most likely have to switch out because the 400m finals are the same day as the 4×4 prelims. I believe this is Noah's strategy to campaign for his 4 golds.

Great awareness and mindset. His focus on speed and time off might be perfectly timed for trials. Nor surprised to see him make the final and then whatever happens there is part of the story to be told

It's called ... getting him ready to peak... cause after the trials, there Olympics, then there Europe, and Diamond League. It's a lot of rounds. His coach has the right idea tho.
