I had the same thoughts. He (Karue) strikes the ball very well from both sides. Power, depth, location. Very solid all around, moves well too! Really just boils down to making a few errors here and there, going for it a bit too early in the rallies. His opponents know early on they are in for a battle.

Karuesing up the rankings. Your analysis was spot on. SO many points where you had opportunities to take control and you did not go for an aggressive shot. Once he had an easier ball to hit, you ALMOST NEVER won those points, so you MUST maintain control with your movement and aggressiveness in these points to win against top 100 players. Since you lose nothing by going for a point-controlling shot- because against these top 100 players you aren't going to win these points with the passive shot anyway- you therefore are losing nothing by going for it. Of course, it is easy to say it, harder to "feel" it in the middle of a big point. I'm not just going to say that you had a real chance to win here, I'm going to say you SHOULD have won this match! No one knows the mental game as well as you. You knew he would play the final set wide open. After he lost the second set he had nothing to lose and he played like it, but you knew that was coming. Your skills are great for clay. On your best day you would have won this match, but as you said it's the end of the season and even in the shape you are in, you weren't totally 100%. You still played a quality match, but I want your focus on WE ARE WORKING ON THE NEXT LEVEL 100% OF THE TIME! Even in the middle of the match I want you thinking about every shot and ONLY that. There is no pressure because there is no score. Today's match results simply do not matter. EVERY point we are just out there working on those next-level shots, because ONLY those will take us to the top. We are simply NEVER content with our weapons. We are IMPROVING them. The way to win matches is to hit your best shot every time, and the ONLY way to do that is to TRULY not give a crap about today's results. That is the irony and the beauty of tennis. I can assure you that your game is closer to the top than you realize.

Well played! I think your commentary on balancing was spot on! That first set could have been yours! Played better more chances etc.. but at some shots you pulled the trigger a bit too early.. and thats such a fine line between playing offensive tennis, but still with patience and control... That second set once you got that break, that first point on 3-1 on your serve was so good! You stayed in the rally was patience, didn't go for too much, won the point and in my opinion send the clear message! Like i can go long points too.. can't break me down.. After that i could tell it affected him mentally and physically and you took that set comfortably, playing good solid tennis! Your up there man! Like you said tennis is like that sometimes, you tire a bit, miss some shots the other guy hangs tough and before you know it, its over.. Again very well played! You got the highlight reel on lockdown!

High quality match! Did the shadow/light on the court in the beginning of the match bother you? Does it affect your playstyle? Do you e.g. deliberately play less serve&volley with such conditions because it is hard to play a volley when the return comes from light into shadow and vice versa?

In the 1st set - the break at 3-4 , usually happens when you are playing against a higher ranked player and when a small doubt creeps in, the backhand you missed down the line(your favourite shot) usually you make it, and the easy serve and volley at 15-30. Then at 3-5 , you had 2 break points, at 15-40 he hot slices right in the middle of court, especially on the 1st slice I thought you will come in and volley and get the break, stayed back, was passive, had to take your chances. The guy doesn't like moving front and back, his side to side is damn good. And also he feels the pressure when you come into the net at the right time he randomly missed the shots into the net or got out whenever you came in. And he doesn't like receiving lots of slices. My analysis for 1st set.

Hi saw Camilo in Poznan, and I can tell you that he was just passing the ball most of the time, lots of slices, lots of topspin, Karue game is much better but probably more difficult to keep on the same high level during the whole match.

In Argentina players are so strong in clay. That's practically all we play. So it's tough when you come from USA's hard courts. The same can be said the other way around. We tend to suck at hard courts. Great match tho Karue! Carabelli is not too far from players like Navone, Diaz Acosta, Comesaña and such! Keep it up, your level is getting there.

What do you think of the Djokovic diet? He doesnt eat wheat(specifically gluten), dairy, red meat. He is super slim. I think something similar could help you with endurance.

First of all congrats, you're getting there and had your chances. I know that from the outside everything seems so easy but have you thought about incorporating more drop shots in your game? If you review your match there are several moments wherr he was way behind the serve line and you had the opportunity to end the point easily with a drop. Think about it because there are situations where you dictate the point but end up losing it because either you force it or you try to add extra spin. Just an idea. Keep it up!

Karue’s current Universal Tennis Rating is 14.41, Ugo is at 14.65. They are evenly matched, perhaps more serve and volley might have helped. I realize that tactic can be tricky on clay. I hope Karue keeps watching his videos. That way while he is actually playing he will see himself as a spectator would watching from the stands. That may sound crazy, however Roger Federer said while he is playing he sees himself hitting amazing shots from a spectator’s point of view.

I would say your clarity in the 2nd set gave u a huge efficiency advantage. YOur mind and body were relaxed and in sync so you hit bigger with same amount effort and you movement efficiency was off the charts. Longer more releaxed strides and muscles, earlier ball recognition, better balance = much more efficient energy usage. Combined with easy power playing with clarity will keep your stamina in the safe zone and leave a good reserve for when you really have to force things. Seems like you were outputing 70% the effort vs. when you were trying to outhit him and playing stacatto style - forcing the issue, breaking the rhythm of the rally.

OK maybe in reality you were using 10% less than him but that is a huge difference in a match especially if u have to play best of 5. Maybe a new secret weapon here - play 80% of the sets with clarity and have enought in tank to go overdrive if needed while your opponnent runs themselves into ground. Is this the secret to energy mgt the top guys have figured out?
