Try this: Lemon Cupcakes Ingredients: > 3 cups self-rising flour > 1 cup whole milk, divided > 1/2 teaspoon salt > 2 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, divided > 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature > 2 cups white sugar > 4 eggs, at room temperature > 1 teaspoon vanilla extract > 2 tablespoons lemon zest Lemon cream icing > 2 cups chilled heavy cream > 3/4 cup confectioner's sugar > 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice Directions: 1.) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line 30 cupcake pan cups with paper liners. 2.) Sift the self-rising flour and salt together in a bowl. In another bowl, beat the unsalted butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, beating each egg until incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the vanilla extract and lemon zest. 3.) Gently beat the flour mixture into the butter mixture, one third at a time, alternating with half the milk and half the lemon juice after each of the first 2 additions of flour. Beat until just combined; do not over mix. 4.) Fill the prepared cupcake liners with batter 3/4 full, and bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 17 minutes. Let the cupcakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before removing them to finish cooling on a rack. 5.) To make the icing, beat the cream in a chilled bowl with an electric mixer set on Low until the cream begins to thicken. Add the confectioners' sugar and lemon juice, a little at a time, beating after each addition, until fully incorporated. Increase the mixer speed to High, and beat until the icing forms soft peaks, about 5 minutes. Spread on the cooled cupcakes. Refrigerate leftovers.

So what I got from this theory is that Euron is actually a lot more important to the whole ASOIAF series then just the main conflict in the Iron Island arc of the books.
@strater2.0867 жыл бұрын
I like Idears of Ice and fire but I don't buy this theory. Or at least I doubt that GRRM will give us one ultimate explanation for the fantasy elements in his world. I think so because Magic in ASOIAF is strongly connected with religion. GRRM refers himself as a critic of religion, who doesn't believe that there is one final truth / correct or false in religion. When a fan asked him which ASOIAF religion he prefers he answered: ``I don't think I choose any of this gods over the other. (...) I think religion is an important part of the world and should be depicted, but I am not about to indorse one westerosi religion as true over the others.´´ (George R.R. Martin at comic con 2014). That's why I am pretty sure that GRRM won't finish his story by giving us one final explanation about the source of magic. More likely he will give us hints for many different interpretations (your locecraft theory could be one of them) and then let every reader decide for himself which interpretation he believes. This way GRRM honors the concept of religious freedom even in the creation of his fantasy world. This concept of leave the last decision to the readers also mirrors in the way GRRM writes his characters. A few examples: 1) Is Danny a fighter for freedom of slaves or a rising tyrant? 2) Was Ned Stark an honourable man or an idiot? 3) Is Arya a hero on revenge or a psychopath? 4) Was Stannis the rightfull king or just one more player in the game? We could extent this list to infinity. The point is that GRRM doesn't give us his answers to this questions. Because that are questions every reader answers by his own philosophy, psychology and experience. Like we see in the GoT forums every reader has a different opinion on every character. Just like with real persons (Trump, Hillary, Putin and so on). This is the key point why the characters in ASOIAF fell so much like actual persons. What seperates GRRM from other writers is that he doesn't force his opinion of the characters to the readers. But before I drift to much away from your theory: It could be one interpretation but I highly doubt that it will be the only possible interpretation. ( I apologise for my english it isn't my first language)
@strater2.0867 жыл бұрын
You are correct, and maybe my comment was a bit misleading. I now that most fans and theorists want to get surprised by the end of ASOIAF or want an open end. My point was more to bring up some arguments, why I think that GRRM will do exactly that and give us an open end which can be interpreted by multible theorys.

I agree man. I feel like the most mysticism that he'll delve in will be some insight as to the origins and maybe even the motivations of walkers. But as far as the shadow lands, the rest of the mentioned continents, the gods, etc, that stuff will be left open ended for either future works generated by him or another author. It's a bummer because I grew to find the war for the throne extremely uninteresting, I'm much more interested in the history of the world and the mythos, the more mystical aspects I guess. But yeah I just can't see him alluding much less explaining the entire architecture of his universe like this.

I've often thought of the Black stone being ice magic embodied, similarly to Dragonglass being fire magic embodied. Unlike the show, I think in the books the Black stone created the Others, not Dragonglass. And then of course when the two materials interact they annihilate each other like matter and antimatter. It clearly has a major role in the books, whereas in the show they've just merged the two materials together to keep things simple.

I really like your theories and I generally think you're on to something with this, especially the part how the great mysterious powers of the world could well be of some sinister cosmic origin. It rings true when one considers the subtle hints we've seen in the worldbuilding as well as GRRM's apparent appreciation for cosmic horror. With that in mind I kind of doubt the part where you speculate that Euron has a shard of the Red Comet in his eye that he found in Valyria. As awesome as the idea is, it doesn't make sense. One, there's no suggestion that the comet actually fell. That's not the kind of event that would go unnoticed, even with all else that's going on at the time. An impact like that would have been noticed all over the world. Second, that would imply that Euron's eye condition is relatively recent and none of the characters he interacts with react as if it is. Neither Victarion nor Asha nor Aeron remark anything that would imply that they're unfamiliar with the eye patch he wears, and I think they would have at least wondered what happened to him if he was fine before he was banished. Also, the Crow's Eye nickname wouldn't have caught on to the point everyone knows it if he wasn't like that before he left. I think his appearance is just to make him cooler/scarier. Even so, great vids, really enjoyable. Keep up the good work.

Hey great theory! I specially liked all you speculated about Euron and his booled eye. (bloodraven, blood emperor, blood eye, do I see a patron here?) I agree that gods in asoiaf seem to be portrayed more as powerful entities that are worshipped by men and opposing each other, than waht we think of as gods in RL (except maybe the seven). And although I see how everything you said makes sense (asshai always made me intrigued like crazy, and awoiaf and all that Yi Ti thing...) I don't think this entities will be the ending game, as you seem to think. For one thing, GRRM has SO MANY loose ends at this point (sure, we've heard a lot about R'hollor and the White Walkers and the children, but we don't really know anything about them) that I think introducing such a huge plot twist now would be a terrible idea. We'd end up with 30 more books (which I wouldn't mind, except George would propably die before finishing them). Really, with all that's already happening I don't know how he'd manage to tell this hole new story about great others and comets and everything. The fact that he wrote a different book to tell the story of Yi Ti makes me think we won't hear about it in the series. And secondly, I truly believe that asoiaf it's more than anything, about human nature. Not about gods and fantasy, but about people...

Aren't the five forts fused black stone, not oily black? I do love the general idea though. Also enjoy the Lovecraft connection.There has to be some correlation between this queer substance that drinks in the light around it making up the entirety of Asshai and Yeen and found in the Iron islands, being referenced in the Bloodstone emporer story et cetera. Have you delved into any potential connection between Dawn, the sword of the Dayne family and the oily black stone... or at least the meteorite idea? It is seemingly magical and it's properties appear opposite in physical description to the oily black stone. And what if the Crow's Eye has just gone mad? Perhaps from drinking too much shade of the evening? I want what he is trying to do to be real within Planetos but much as wildfire can't turn one into a dragon, mayhaps whatever he is planning with his massive blood sacrifice is utter folley. It could also cause his own demise under those circumstances. GRRM does seem to be a fan of hubris after all. But then again, maybe he can actually become a living squid god. I hope for the latter and expect the former. Really enjoy your videos!

Can we talk about GRRM's absolute disgust with Fan-Fiction (calling it copyright infringement) yet his seemingly-hypocritical willingness to straight up steal elements from the likes of Lovecraft and Bierce? Dude has a city named fucking 'Carcosa' in which resides a 'Yellow King' in his fictional universe. What the fuck, GRRM?
@Sefoskiii4 жыл бұрын
But his stories are not dependant on the borrowed elements from Lovecraft. They’re more like easter eggs, used for world building more than anything. The actual meat of the stories are his own (although heavily inspired from other works, and history mostly). Fan-fiction on the other hand uses someone elses world and characters to tell their own stories. Most of the hard work is already done at that point. It’s not the same.
@OpticalArxenal7 жыл бұрын
As entertaining as it is, this is bogus. Small chance that something inspired from from Lovecraft could be used, but that's a cheap stunt I highly doubt Martin would approach. I also think it's a shame to just mash 2 highly popular things together, instead of appreciating them seperately.

Besides, I find refreshing to see someone considering what Martin's influences may be, since I think that to truly understand any work you need to evaluate which are the authors or the themes that are influencing the writer, and in the asoiaf fandom this is rarely done. So thank you for all your great videos, my friend, they are clever and beautifully edited! (English is not my first language, sorry if something I wrote doesn't make much sense)

You know you’ve written a great book series when fans can go this in-depth with theorizing and analyzing, even if what they’re talking about has almost nothing to do with the main storyline, and is purely based off of the barely mentioned lore. If I could meet one character from asoiaf, it would be Melisandre (Melony) because she is one of the only characters who has been to Asshai, and probably Stygai and all that scary stuff too, but everyone else I can think of like Quaithe and Euron are just on a whole other level, and would probably not give me or you a straight answer. but I just wanna know what it’s like, like for real. And George rr Martin said that everything that the maesters say about the other side of the world might be not 100% true, because unreliable sources and all that, just like real history. But it could be just a sorta creepy place with bad weather and stuff inhabited by cults blown out of proportion by legend…or maybe… hopefully, it’s everything and more; maybe R’hllor does exist at the heart of Darkness, and maybe only dragon fire, or lightbringer, or something next level like that can awake him, can rekindle the flame, making Asshai and Stygai and all that stuff not darkness anymore

Yi Ti and The Empire of the Dawn are not the same thing. Yi Ti, Sarnor, Valyria etc. are likely the broken pieces of the Empire of the Dawn that rose back up after the Long Night. What's more, according to the same legend on which you base your assumptions, between the first emperor of the Dawn and the Bloodstone Emperor, many many centuries of rule by other emperors passed. The way its layed out here gives a very warped view of the timelines given to us by The World of Ice and Fire.

I think you missed the point of the series. The gods are the unimportant characters, not the humans. The idea of gods influences character actions, but they have no interaction with mortals beyond that. When Euron speaks of a new god, he's talking about HIMSELF. And that's far more disturbing than anything Lovecraftian.

Picture it; Euron conquers Oldtown. Climbs High Tower, surveying the bloody carnage below, a storm brewing in the sky. The holy blood of those dead serves as a sacrifice, and summons krakens from the deep, their tentacles thrashing and creating tidal waves. Euron removes his eyepatch, revealing the Bloodeye, an oily black stone, with veins of red. A former student of Bloodraven, he wargs the the Krakens. They are his now. They belong whatever god looks through him now. He reigns supreme on the sea. Now, he will reign with the Dragons, and the Others. He will tear down the Wall. He will blasphemously ascend. He will bring this god to Earth.

So the Slime God ascends and that's IT? NAH, There will be a second hero or heroes to defeat him, and act as a cancelling force. Then another age of NO magic, where maybe the seasons re-set and under the super long reign of Bran the Tree King everyone just lives ordinary lives. Nobody gets vast power - it's not available anymore.

awesome video! I think you're definitely on to something with the Lovecraftian references, but I don't think these deities will ever be truly revealed or personified. I think they will perhaps be shown as 'devine forces', but in keeping with Martin limited 'on-stage magic', simply to be a loving nod to Lovecraft. the same way Jon Snows' rise to power will contain a loving nod to Aragon and Return of the King.

Amethyst Empress killed by the Bloodstone Emperor is the origin of the light bringer story. The Daynes are her direct decedents, The Sword of the Morning or Mourning. They followed a falling star, the Empress feel in death. Dany is a Dayne, her name Daen=Soldier Eyrs=Goddess, Daenerys mean Soldier Goddess. Dayne means Origin. Remember who you are. Also the Daynes blazen is a Star, Sword on a purple background. Daynes are one of the oldest houses of the Kingdom.

As much as I like all this, I very much have to critisize that most of these realizations seem to come from "The World of Ice and Fire", right? I mean, I don't have that book and I know pretty much know nothing about Yi Ti or Asshai and have never heard of the Bloodstone Emperor or the Empire of the Dawn etc. from the "story-books". Maybe I'm a very oblivious reader, but delivering the lore of the world in this way seems just a little bit cheap to me.

I think this theory can be augmented by examining the cosmic backdrop of Elden Ring, where you essentially have outer gods competing for influence by using individuals as political chess pieces.

FOR THE BOOKS : I still hope for the bittersweet ending promised -The Ending that was Promised? - wherin a form of justice happens when those who sacrificed OTHERS to these cthonic powers find that they gain very little personal power when the beings they are invoking manifest, and those who TAKE RESPONSIBILITY themselves have a fighting chance and restore the balance, BECAUSE they are willing to sacrifice much and more of their own.

10:24 *At it's core exists Stygai* Just this morning I was thinking about how much of the thematic tension come from "What's really magic, and what's just *a guy* ?" Is a royal claim divinely blessed, complete with magic blood? Or is a king just *a guy* with human failings? Is the 3 Eyed Crow the will of an astral hivemind, or just *a guy* with a port wine stain? Is Varys a magician truly, or is it just *a guy* using mummer's tricks and chemical additives? What about Mel? Euron? George loves to set up cosmic horror stakes, but it always has come home to personal struggle. Human heartburn and salad dressing, or whatever the quote is. Magic exists to reflect and magnify the human themes. The cosmic magic is real, but *at its' core exists a guy.*

Interesting theory, but it is somewhat telling that you must resort to arguments such as the work of other authors or the fact that the origin of certain objects is unclear and they might therefore be supernatural. Almost all of your evidence comes from sources that are not ASOIAF. You could argue that TWOIAF is part of the universe, but it is written from the perspective of a maester and deliberately biased. The sample chapter from TWOW is from the Song, but it's a fucking drug-induced dream. Nevermind the fact that Euron being perceived as a squid might just be a symbol of his claim to the throne, as so much in prophecy and prophetic visions is symbolic. Although this theory is cool, it is also extremely weak. And some of it is probably already disprovable: Dany follows the "bleeding star" after the birth of her dragons, and it leads her into the Red Waste and to the gates of Qarth. She is evidently travelling east, so since Qarth is east of Valyria, the comet lead her away from Valyria. But it couldn't have possibly fallen on Valyria then. And I think it would contradict the theme of ASOIAF and GRRM's writing in general. The story is about human struggle. All we see is the numerous ways good and honorable motives can make a person do horrible things. How complex the motivations even of people we perceived as just evil, like Jaime, truly are. "The human heart in conflict with itself" is what GRRM says his writing is all about, and it really is. What makes ASOIAF beautiful is how it explores the depth of its characters, even those who are just psychopaths. The scene in GoT where Tyrion and Jaime talk about their mutual cousin Orson who was dim-witted was a brilliant addition in this regard. All Orson ever did was smashing beetles with a rock, and Tyrion wonders why. He is convinced that there was some reason for why he did it - even if it was hard to figure out. Every character in ASOIAF has their motivations, and they are the focus of the story, even more so than the story itself. This only works if they are in charge. Revealing that it was giant space monsters with lots of glowing eyes and lots of claws and lots of tentacles that pulled the strings all along would be very disappointing. Another thing that makes ASOIAF beautiful is how it is practically almost completely unpredictable while in hindsight, everything is conclusive and completely predictable. There is no major event that wasn't predicted in many ways, and there is no prophecy that shows exactly what will happen. If Aeron sees Euron as a half-squid, half-human being, then that means that Euron will not ever be a half-squid, half-human being! It may be foreshadowing something, depending on the context, but it is not to be taken literally. I think we've crossed paths before, and I think that it was this super crazy, over the top speculation that made me not subscribe to you. Well, whatever. To each their own. I don't think that any of this will ever become truth, though.

The Withe Walkers are ODD. Maybe they are not exactly malevolent? Just utterly alien?.... maybe actual aliens. It would be interesting if the Others actually ally with Humanity to face Euron.

Why do you focus do much on HPL work and ignore three previous GRRM work? I know he borrows a lot from Lovecraft but his previous work must be way more influential and a better base for analysis and theories, since, you know, it's written by the same person.

So you're saying that GRRM has taken Lovecraft and English history, mixed them and that's it. In other words, very little original work.

"That whitch is dead may never die" is a version of "That is not dead which can eternal lie and with strange æons even death may die". I've had that as the background of my phone because personally I think it applies as much to humans as to Cthulhu (think about it where were you before you were born, where did you come from, you were neither alive nor dead and there's nothing to stop you from being pulled from the ether again).
@tereziamarkova28225 жыл бұрын
I believe there is something to this theory, but I am not sure whether that's all there is to it, just two teams in a cosmic boardgame with the third coming; after all, Martin is far less misanthropic than Lovecraft. His deities must represent something, some fundamental truths or principles, and their fight probably results in some kind of statement about humankind and the world. Or maybe it's just that one represents life and the other death, but neither is morally superior to the other; fire, R'hllor and dragons represent both creative and destructive qualities of life, while the cold and White Walkers represent death. What could ever be good about White Walkers, you say? Well, they are still a big mystery, but it's possible their motives aren't nearly as simple as in the TV show and we are in for a lot of surprises.

Interesting theory. However given there are only two books left and too many unanswered questions, it's unlikely GRRM would explore more of these concepts in the main novel. It's more likely that the black stones are left as a mystery to make the known World have more weight
