Here is a classic recipe with a healthy twist... Watch this video to find out the recipe for Quinoa Poha.
QUINOA POHA
Ingredients
1 cup quinoa
2 tablespoons oil
½ teaspoon mustard seeds
8-10 curry leaves
2 medium onions, chopped
¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
2 green chillies, chopped
2 small potatoes, boiled, peeled and cut into 1 cm cubes
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons roasted and crushed peanuts
1 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander
2 tablespoons scraped fresh coconut
Method
1. Rinse the quinoa well. Transfer the quinoa in a deep nonstick
pan. Add two cups water. Allow to boil. Cover and and cook on
low heat for eighteen to twenty minutes.
2. Heat oil in a nonstick pan. Add the mustard seeds. Once they
start to splutter, add curry leaves and sauté for a few seconds.
3. Add onions and sauté till golden brown. Add turmeric powder,
green chillies and sauté well.
4. Add boiled potatoes and mix well. Add the cooked quinoa, salt
and mix well.
5. Take the pan off the heat. Transfer in a serving bowl.
6. Sprinkle roasted peanuts, coriander and coconut and serve
hot.

The bitterness doesn't go with one wash. It needs to be soaked overnight in water/preferably apple cider vinegar. The saponin may cause stomach cramps. I am surprised you didn't mention it.

Your right, we need to wash it 3 or 4 times and soak it for atleast for 2 to 3 hours.

My recipe: South Indian tempering, chopped onions, chillies, grated ginger par boiled vegies, cooked Quinoa, seasoning. At the end grated coconut with a teaspoon of sugar......Do try !

Somehow when I buy quinoa in New York it doesn’t taste bitter to me. Thank you for different version . What a coincidence this recipe came on my phone and eating pulau style ❤️

Most quinoa is prewashed nowadays. When it first came on the market, you had to scrub the saponins off in three or more changes of water.

I love your cooking. Please make your recipes printable. It is very difficult to look them up every time you want to make them. Plus having to use an electrical device in the kitchen doesn’t work well. Thank you.

Ideally you should soak quinoa for atleast 2 hrs to reduce the bitterness. Saying the same with personal experience. No mention of negative effects of not soaking quinoa

Can we use a pressure cooker to cook the quinoa?? In that case, how many whistles please? On another note, if using instant pot, how many minutes should be good enough to cook the quinoa please? Thanks in advance.

Once the quinoa is cooked you want to separate the grains using a fork before refrigerating them.

Soak for 10 min then rub and wash. Repeat thrice. Drain all water by sieving. Toast in oil for few minutes. Then add 1.75cups water to 1cup quinoa and cook

You may, but it might get over-cooked.It's better if you cook it in an open pan.

Hema, I have always tried in pressure cooker. It comes out perfect. dont put directly. just use a bartan and inside u put quinoa. It will come out perfect
