A lot of educators I know only ever do it for the passion of seeing students thrive. A total selflessness. Having a boss disregard that and be tone deaf is an additional smack in the face! Out of all the horrible bosses I have had, Ava has never once triggered me. I'm sorry she did you, but I'm glad she no longer does. You have to admit that if an actor causes you to have extreme reactions, they must be doing a great job, haha. She is truly talented, and I don't think anyone could have embodied that character better (i.m.o.)

So I know Abbott is its own lane, but I can’t help but to think of it as a school version of The Office with a more diverse cast. It’s the randomness of the characters and breaking the 4th wall that gets me for both shows! I love it!

They share the mockumentary genre, but I feel different vibes. There’s more Parks and Rec in it because of its focus on community and its cast being a true ensemble (rather than 4 mains, and the others). However, Parks & Rec had too much lore around its almost mythical town, Pawnee. Abbot is a lot more grounded in that respect, which is more like The Office, I suppose. But it has its own traits and brand of comedy. I think it hits some emotional notes in a much deeper way than the other shows, which often gloss over the tragic. In this show breakups are real, bad family relations don’t get magically solved, and systemic oppression can be combatted but never truly beaten. I think it’s really reaching some new heights because it does stand on the shoulders of those giants.

It's cute and then you have the incompetent but somehow pulls it off when needed and is lovably horrible boss : Ava (similar to Michael Scott).
