I’m tired of being told that my entire heritage is total garbage and we should literally hate ourselves for being alive. I’m exhausted by going somewhere to tour, or even watching a movie that has a hidden moral agenda that I didn’t know about from the beginning. If u want an experience like that, which would “make me think” and “make me more open minded” I want to go into it knowingly because I’m interested in learning it. Yes, I’m guilty of actually wanting to feel good, and feel happy, and not made to feel like garbage on vacation. Make a museum about diversity and inclusion.. about the past wrongs.. do that.. allow me to enjoy my weekend getaways or I literally won’t go.

@@jujutrini8412I would agree, but it is not the remit of the National Trust to actively indoctrinate their visitors in line with the personal political and/or ideological agendas of their management team.. The almost criminally skewed voting system they employed, with the clear intention of nudging the membership vote towards the candidates they obviously deemed ideologically acceptable smacks of politicized 'cronyism' and also proves that they are well aware that their actions are widely unpopular (after all, if everyone was 'on board' why bother skewing the voting process ?..) - Despite visitor numbers being up on the previous year, their agenda will ultimately prove very damaging to their revenue stream when the upward 'blip' in 'woke' visitor interest gradually fades away and they turn to their previously solid traditional membership to replace the lost revenue, only to discover they have alienated that membership to such an extent that it has voted with it's feet and walked away.. I'm not a National Trust member myself, it's not really my 'thing' but I wouldn't knock anyone for being a member, although I must admit that I only know one person who is (a work colleague). We'd spoken in passing about the National Trust before, so when this issue first reared it's ugly head some time ago I sought his opinion, only to be told that after being enthusiastic members for just over 40 years without a break, he and his wife had decided to cancel their membership. I was surprised to hear this because I knew that they'd had a lot of pleasure visiting National Trust sites all over the country and did so at least every other weekend (often more in Summertime) He said their reason was just as stated here, they had become sick of the new 'woke' signage popping up all over NT sites which seemed to him to be constantly ramming the same 'anti-Britain' message home about how nasty and evil Britain and the British were (and, it seemed to imply to him, still are..) - As I said, he's the only member I knew, but I greatly doubt he's alone in his actions..

The RNLI and the National Trust WERE 'Beloved British institutions' but both institutions seem to be working VERY hard indeed to undermine and denigrate classic British values and indeed, in the case of the RNLI, the safety and wellbeing of the British population.. Agree..I am British born and bred but have another citzenship and passport...My nationality is British I am merely a citizen of an adopted country...an Indian born person with a British passport is not British just a passport holder. If you provide the names of the homes and people (where they haven't said anything about owners who fought against slavery) we would all be grateful. Otherwise can we assume that most of them never lived in big stately home which still exist to visit, unlike the slave plantation owners who made massive amounts of money out of their slaves, which allowed them to build big stately homes which are still worth a visit?

A small amount did indeed come from the slave trade and ownership, as did many a black African potentiate fortune. I note that you have inferred that some of the people who fought against slavery were from stately homes. Lucky for many black people that Britannia did rule the waves is it not?

A serious issue with NT is the vast vast amount of land in their hands. This has a serious negative affect on villages etc as they dominate farming policy and rent out cottages to holiday makers not locals. Also they sell off houses which were placed with them in trust for our nation
