Was drill support rig for exploration drilling. Sometimes skidders are good for more remote location where roads can not be cut to drill pads. Hauls water and drill rods and what ever else they need.

YES commenters 😊 you are probably right 👍 on what it's use was. I also thought it was some kind of wild land Fire fighting big rig, work with the Dozer crews on clearing and wetting the back burn area and carrying the equipment instead of Forest fire crews have to carry in a backpack. 😊

About 5 or 6 of these came out of Hermosillo, Mexico and went to the Chandler, AZ. They came from Layne subsidiary of Granite Construction. Layne does dewatering, mineral exploration, and other types of drilling. It's a drill support rig for the coring crew. There is 3 of these at the Layne shop in Elko, NV.

I have seen something similar used as a firefighting rig for forestry
@rp16452 ай бұрын
YES that's what I thought as a second guess 😊 carry the gear Fire lines crews then don't have to back pack in say the portable pumps. It could carry a big fold out water tank for dumping its water, then run to the water supply like a road big Fire ( Tender) does. We in the west coast call all wheel tankers ( Tenders) the Aircraft are called the Tankers. It's that way so radio communication doesn't get mixed up. I maintain and drive a 1500 gallon Tender in my state if DNR wants to contract a big mobilization of Fire Rigs. We also have a F-450 (4 door) brush rig with 300 tank and pump mounted on the rear. We have a small forest fire hose on a big hose reel, Compartment on each side with all the different fittings. The 1500 gallon Tender has 1000 feet of (5") storz hose. It also has pre connect beds on side above pump panel

I was a painter at John Deere and Timberjack in Woodstock Ontario Canada, I have painted thousands of skidders, as well as ever other piece of forest equipment on the planet. This looks so cool, sometimes they retro fit them for field work and maintenance vehicles. They have to be able to reach the interior of wicked rugged terrain. Glad I found this video. 👍🇨🇦🇺🇸
@bishopcorva2 ай бұрын
At first glance I thought it was a super heavy duty wildland brush fire rig. Made to go into places before the fire dozers get there. Such a truck built on a skidder platform would make a good bit of sense to use because trees and brush up to eight to ten inches thick it would just be able to drive right over and through. Wrap the tires in skidder chains for extra grip, or wrap them in X-12 or X-14 tire chains so there would be less concern of sharp rocks, stumps and whatnot pushing through even those thick skidder tires. On the right side of the back, looks like it has spaces for three or four people to stand and operate hoses, possibly similar on the left side. Railing on the left side looks like it could fold down to expand the platform up top maybe? Now that seeing the interior of the box, yeah, swung over to part of a exploratory test drill rig set. Probably had four or five units as the set to go out into the wilds of central or southern Mexico to Central/South America. Perhaps not just for the oil industry but mineral extraction to select a mine site.

she is geared down real low it looks like it has a transfer case like on 4x4's and it will have gears in it too high and low ranges, id say it should do around 25mph or more. id say the transfer box could have electric solenoids to shift the ratios i think they would have originally had a powershift trans fitted to it with a proper johndeere made diesel fitted. i think the detroit and throttle pedal was from a semi truck hence why it has freightliner written on the pedal.

The housing on back of engine could and this is my Humble opinion 😊 could it have been a PTO for the water pumping that ran off the Engine if its a manual transmission then the Highest gear, like a Fire engine 🚒 had. Just guessing Sense it carries water. The flammable liquid connection with shut off on back, with what people are saying it was a drill rig support vehicle ( heavy duty ) that that was for the Liquid that went in the drill hole. Or it could be for the mud lube for drill rigs. ?????? Im just thinking of how that might have been a heavy duty service big rig.😊
