This! I'm trying to get back into doing art, and maybe work towards selling/being hired for art. And i get navigating the selling portion is a challenge, it's what I struggle with most, but I'd never do what this person is doing. But I've done plenty as gifts for friends and family in the past, in various media types (blankets, paintings, jewelry, etc).

Story 3- at the beginning of the pandemic, when there was a baby formula shortage, my sister was panicked as she couldn’t find the specific kind of formula my niece required. I relayed this to my husband, telling him I was concerned (obviously) as my mom, my sister or myself could not find this formula or it was to expensive for my sister. My husband found it in a few hours, paid the ridiculous price, and had it shipped to her overnight. My husband and sister do not get along, and he never got thanked for what he did, but he did it again when my second niece was born. Burger husband, the least he could do is buy burgers every week. That’s your sister in law and clearly your wife cares deeply for her sister. Support her. Total asshole

I had a coworker who was upset that her baby's formula was hard to find during covid. I bought the biggest canisters I could find every time I was at the grocery store. She said thank you, never paid me back or offered, I never asked or expected it either. She also continued to make nasty comments about me not friending her on social media, not wanting to hang out after work or on weekends and avoiding work food related events. I have very little social media presence, I suffer with chronic pain and just want to go home, not out and about, I work weekends, yes, every day and I'm allergic to most foods and have bad reactions so I try not to eat anything that I didn't make or order. I would literally walk in to work, hand her a canister of formula and get called into the director's office due to another of her complaints. I forgot to mention that I'm also old enough to be her mother, my kids are her age and would be more apt to hangout with her than me. She said she didn't believe my boring lifestyle because I'm funny and date a cop. There's no way we're both boring. We are SO boring! Your husband is a good guy, congrats !

My take is that he hates seeing what he views as a waste of money. His wife has the recipe and could cook the same burger herself for less, and the sister sells out easily so she doesn't actually need the support. What OP is failing to do is value his wife's time and effort and add it to his equation. I also like finding ways to save money, and often try to diy stuff instead of doing an easier buy. Luckily, my husband sticks up for me against myself and reminds me that my time is valuable and to add the cost of my time to the value to see if it is truly "cost effective". Even if it was low cost in time/ effort for his wife, if it gives her joy to support her sister, that adds to the value of the burger purchase as well. I hope OP apologized to his wife ❤

Story 6: why doesn't the sister plan herself a memorial for her late fiancé which could incorporate some of the wedding stuff like wearing the dress? If she tells everyone she needs to do this as closure I'm sure they'd all understand. She shouldn't be trying to hijack her brother's wedding to get this closure, she should have her own event.

Story 1: listen, art is subjective even if on a technical side bad art does exist. However, they are obviously being guilt tripped into buying something they have shown no interest in. For the story about the wedding dress, I feel like a good solution could be the sister wears the dress she’s supposed to the whole time. Then at the reception after the new couple has their dance they could make an announcement. “And because my sister never got her dance in dedication of so-and-so who passed away she and my father are going to do the father daughter dance” and then his sister comes out in her wedding dress with her dad and they do their dance and then after the dance she gets back into her bridesmaids dress. Then it’s kinda like she gets her moment.

Yes, that's what I was thinking! If they are comfortable with her wearing the dress during her father daughter dance I think that could be perfect. She gets that moment and pictures/video. Again, only if both grooms feel it's appropriate, I think this could be a great option!

for story 6: idk if has ever been done, but i think the sister should have a ceremony to celebrate the love between her and her partner. she can wear her dress and have a ceremony in which she gets to pleadge her unwavering love for her late partner. and then the family can be there to fully support her in her love and grief appropriately.

That's what I was thinking. Or even something like a fancy/pumped out picnic type outdoorsy event in some beautiful area. Like u could take time to hire a photographer and maybe even cater it if there are the funds. I donno. Like I love the idea of abunch of blankets set out to sit on but u could have tables set up and made pretty in some private location. So many options to do a beautiful even centered around her and her relationship with him, what could have been, etc, without her needing to feel any guilt over getting emotional and "causing a seen" or whatever cuz that would also just be so stressful for her and probably would tie some mixed messy feeling to the dress whenever she saw the dress/photos or remembered the wedding

Story 4: as someone who was raised in a hoarding environment, I used to leave "fidget" piles as my husband calls them. 1. we had an honest discussion on how it upset him. In return I made a serious effort to be sure I picked up my piles as I went. (I always cleaned up in the end but sometimes it would be a day or two before hand) 2. I now have a fidget bucket that if my adhd is just too much I throw it in the bucket and when I have mental bandwidth (end of day or early next morning) I empty my bucket and put where it goes. Over the past decade this has evolved into usually only 1 or 2 items in the bucket. I feel SO MUCH BETTER!! I don't feel near as anxious, and our house is always ready for people to come over. He of course gave me grace and didn't expect perfection as he knew that adhd and trauma played a role into my cluttered behavior. To be clear it was usually a hoodie or my water glass I would come back to etc. Never anything DIRTY like old food etc.

I have ADHD but am very neat and tidy. I've learned many work-arounds to achieve this and if my space is a mess, my brain is a mess. My partner is a slob...which I knew going in. However, after expressing to him how it makes me feel, he is doing such a good job of cleaning up after himself and cleaning as he goes. It's still amazing to watch the path of destruction he leaves in his wake, but he's at least mindful of it and does clean up. I've caught him putting stuff away after using it, wiping spills immediately and putting his laundry in the hamper instead of the floor. Miracles can happen! But OP was literally conned into believing her partner was not a slob. I couldn't get past that, personally.
@puplife7939

@YoYo_Ma oh absolutely, it's the lying for me! Heck, NO! You sound similar to how my husband is, I absolutely always cleaned up any spills or messes previously. My big ones though were dishes not going in the dish washer (I would rinse but not put them in idk why now 🤣) or things on the counter like paperwork or keys etc. My big one was clothes in the bathroom. It wasn't a lot but ALWAYS replenished by the new dirty clothes. I LOVE how my brain feels now that my house isn't cluttered. It has helped me SOOOO MUCH and I don't think I could go back to not having my little tricks and tidy house. I think it's important to reiterate I was never dirty (could be my trauma coming out) I was just messy with things and disorganized.
@YoYo_Ma
@YoYo_Ma 2 ай бұрын
@puplife7939 My hubby was also raised by a hoarder, so I give him a lot of grace. As for me, I found some podcasts that really helped me. A Slob Comes Clean is great. One of her best tips is when you find something that doesn't belong there, just bring it to where it needs to go, right away. Don't put it in a pile of stuff to be put away "later". Even if it means going upstairs with the tweezers and only the tweezers to put them away. I used to make little piles everywhere, thinking I was being efficient. But I would inevitably get distracted with something else, and never get around to it...or feel like a failure when the house was still a mess after hours of me "tidying" lol. Now, at least rhe tweezers are where they belong and I know where to find them, instead of rummaging thru 18 piles of stuff. Rules to live by: don't put it down, put it away. Put garbage in the garbage as soon as it becomes garbage. Put dirty clothes in the hamper, and have a chair in your room for not quite dirty yet clothes you'll wear again that week. Clean as you go. A place for everything, and everything in it's place. Store like, with like. Bless our hearts!

Story 5 hit me right in the feelings because of a breakup I've been going through rn. We took a break to get our crap together (LDR was tough on him), but he looked me in the eye and told me not to worry, he couldn't imagine being with anyone else. During this "break," we weren't dating, but continued to hook up, say I love yous, talk daily, and plan our future. I later found out that a very sentimental gift he gave me during that time was something he won at an arcade while on a date with someone else. I don't think I've ever felt so broken haha

I was in a long distance relationship with a guy that I thought I knew but as soon as we got married in order to be together his entire personality changed and he became extremely hostile towards me and gaslighting me constantly. Thankfully it was the distance that saved me from this man. As soon as he went home and I was supposed to ready up for him to come live with me I told him I’m done and later filed for divorce. I’ve never come that close to dodging a bullet ever.

TW for SA and other ab*se: My ex husband did the same to me, he put on the façade of the perfect boyfriend and fiancé that he unmasked after marriage. We moved to an apartment together a week after the wedding (we had been semi living together prior but not fully). Suddenly he was disgustingly messy, started being incredibly controlling, SAed me while I screamed and cried for him to stop, forced me to quit school, cheated, ruined my credit, forced us to move out of our apartment after only 2 months and in with his family, isolated me as much as he could from my friends and family, it was horrible. All this happened in just over a year, I’m so glad to be divorced and far away from him.

4. Telling him to be a grown ass adult and to clean up after himself is NOT asking him to “change himself” in a controlling toxic way, this is something all grown people should do and he’s tricking others to do it for him. Trying to “change him” in a controlling toxic way would be telling him to stop liking legos or watching a certain show or something. This is different. She should do what Morgan said and if he gets mad and gaslights she should tell him get his act together or she will leave him and he can marry his mommy since that’s what he wants is someone to take care of his messes. I don’t think he will so girl runnnn!

Story 6: A - This guy is AWESOME to be so open to so many options for his sister to honor her late husband! She should do one of those Angle photo shoots where she could get professional photos done in her wedding dress and then they photoshop her late husband into the pics. Then maybe the brother could have a table space for him and at the reception they could announce that sister will be doing a father daughter dance in honor of her late husband who was due to marry her and then have the photos she took in her dress playing on a screen slide show style during the dance. This should happen AFTER the brother gets all of HIS dances at HIS wedding, but before they open the dance floor to everyone. I think that would flow very smoothly, yet it would be clear what the point was and she won't be bombarded with questions PRIOR to this moment. She can then enjoy her brother's wedding for what it is, knowing her and her husband will be acknowledged and honored, but it won't be the center of her entire experience there. One day she may want to remember her brother's wedding as something other than her own stand in wedding that never got to take place. B - (Sort of side note....but.....) I think the moms comment was really weird in regards to it being "less of a big deal since it's a gay wedding and there won't be a bride". That feels real off to me. I actually feel like it might be MORE noticeable in that case, and it may bring unwanted questions to the grooms from distance relatives, etc. Kind of seems like a slap in the face to attempt to "appear" somehow still traditional??? 🤔🤔🤔 I don't know, I can't quite put my finger on it but I know if it were me it would feel almost directed negatively at the fact that I was marrying someone of the same gender.

Justins perspective of your first date and the way he told it was so touching💙 when he saw you walk in to the restaurant, he even remembers what you were wearing. I’ve had moments like this too. But for some reason guys (the good ones) have a photographic memory of the way their girlfriend/wife looked in certain moments. Mine always remembers this time he stopped by the hair salon and I was waiting for my color to process so I was standing near the window waiting and i turned around when he pulled up out front and I smiled thru the window. He must have told me 20 times how much he loved that. I still hear about this and a few other ones years later. But it’s so easy to see that Justin really loves you and is thrilled to be with YOU. You’re both so lucky to have each other.

Story 7 --- He needs to RUN!!! Not to bash our military personnel, but I was married to someone in the army who went on deployment and my eyes were opened in how intense and real cheating culture is in the military. They all do it, and they all make excuses for each other. If this guy is a cheater deep down (same as my ex) it's a perfect environment to get your rocks off without remorse. There's a narrative there about military wives and they'll have plenty of stories to back up why they are justified in doing what they do. Even if those stories are all second hand and have nothing to do with your own relationship, the group mentality kicks in and it takes a strong soul to resist it. The fact he admitted that he was excited about the prospect of cheating tells you everything you need to know. That means this group of guys he will be with have likely already discussed this and made a point to have each other's backs. This is a normal ass conversation in his world..... How to cheat, get away with it, and IF you get caught..how to divert blame back onto their spouse. They can become trained in gaslighting if they aren't aware and determined enough to let shit slide or not take the talk seriously. But that may also mean isolating yourself for a long time in an environment where you're already isolated and those ass hole cheating ass fuck heads are the only people you got! It'll turn the good ones bad, and the bad ones diabolical. Similar to prison. If you go in ok, you aren't coming out ok. Ok many levels. So tread with caution if you stay, but I would run and run far and do it ASAP.

For story #4 I want to quote Dusty Thunder, who says “Pain creates change”. No one can ‘change’ someone who doesn’t want to change. Too often, people hide parts of their personality until they get you legally bound to them. I learned this the hard way, twice. It’s scary how long some people can keep up that ruse, too.

That first story is wild. My partner is a full time painter. He's been studying for his entire life about 40 years he's been at a semi professional or professional level. He's studied in Florence. He would charge something similar to what this woman is attempting to charge for her unsolicited painting. Also he knows some of his stuff won't sell and he's okay with that. Our house is littered with paintings that haven't sold yet and maybe never will. Maybe what this woman needs is a mentor in how the art industry actually works.

Story 6: My take is going to be harsher, but I don't think it's appropriate at all for the sister to use OP's wedding as a bandage for her grief. Not just the dress, any of it. First of all, I don't see how it'll actually help with the healing process. The whole thing just feels like it'd rub salt into wounds more than anything, and all while in front of dozens of people. And while there's no exact timer on how long the grieving process lasts, the fact it's been three years and OP talks like he's still walking on eggshells around her really indicates to me that she hasn't been dealing with the grief in a healthy manner. I think it'd be much more beneficial for her to seek grief counseling rather than hijacking someone else's wedding. But the bigger issue is that: it's his wedding. It's HIS wedding. The attention SHOULD be on him and his partner, and not anyone else. The fact the mother doesn't see it that way, and while OP argued against this, does make me feel there is some latent homophobia there because I have sincere doubts she'd be so flippant if OP was a woman marrying a man. I don't know, this whole post just gives me the feeling that the family dynamic going on is basically the brother has had to spend years catering to his sister's wants and needs, and therefore he's on reddit asking if he'd be the asshole if he dared ask for the slightest bit of respect on his wedding day.

Story 6: it’s not appropriate for the sister to wear the wedding dress. However a nice sentiment could maybe be allowing a second father daughter dance since she didn’t get one. But it’s very strange for her to be standing next to them in a wedding dress. It makes it seem almost like she wants to marry the husband too. Sister should consider a photoshoot in her wedding dress holding a picture of her fiancé or something so that she can still have the memory/experience
