To be fair and actually get technical; it's not a protected form of speech when it invokes violence, is a direct promotion of the threat of violence, or if it contains lewd or explicit language. It's also worth remembering that just because we are protected by our constitution to be free from being prevented from expressing our speech, it doesn't mean that we're free from potential consequences for having expressed said speech. "From the river to the sea" isn't referring to the picnic tables where we all are gonna meet up for the big shindig. It's definitely not protected speech and is subject to entail with it consequences to various degrees. Freedom of speech is a broad and sometimes nebulous social concept. The right to freedom of speech is a legal concept. Legally the only concern is whether the state treats you differently because of your speech. But if we step back from that and think of the term more broadly, it still makes sense to criticize bosses for firing people for speaking up, religious schools for prohibiting speech on campus, or even stuff like this where a person is kicked out for offending a sports exec. It's not that we need to pass laws to enforce our opinion but our opinion is still based on the fact that we don't like the fact that the freedom of speech is being curtailed in an unreasonable way. All of that is to say that if you love calling people "snowflakes" and complaining about "cancel culture" then you're just projecting your own whinny attitude if you like when stuff like this happens to people you disagree with.
