Do you dread going to work? Does your job leave you feeling empty and unfulfilled? Is there something more you should be doing with your life?
In this episode, Cathy Heller the author of "Don’t Keep Your Day Job" reveals the secret to unlocking your talents and turning them into profit.
Listen to find out:
-The key to getting paid to do what you love. (Most people go about it backward and wind up with a hobby and not a business!)
-A simple exercise to uncover your true calling, and narrow your focus.
-There are four types of successful entrepreneurs. Which type are you?
-Answer three specific questions to ensure your creative business will make money.
-Stop asking, “How will I find the time?” Creative and productive people rely on a quality that is infinitely more valuable than “free time.”
-When to quit and when NOT to quit your day job.
-The real reason people fail when they “follow their passion” and the simple shift that will allow the money to come.
Leaving your job to pursue a career where you have meaning and purpose isn’t as difficult as people think it needs to be.

Thats true. Mostly its friends and loved ones who would rather discourage you not to follow your dream. Sometimes they don't do it with the intension to discourage but in a way since they don't have your vision, they only see the "physical"you and thinks you are not capable.

When you have a day job and you like it, and you spend only a fraction of your income, you're building wealth. When you follow radio personalities and buy their programs and waste your money when you can't figure out that they ever made money doing anything other than selling you programs and books, then you're keeping their dreams afloat.

Passions can change in time. Your Gift is different. Passions are learned. Gifts, we're born with. For example, you love driving and you'll be willing to do it do free. You drive your parents, siblings, and even volunteer to drive for your church. It makes you happy to wake up in the morning! That's your Gift! Now you can train others to drive and possibly make a business out of it. Now you'll have people working for you. Then you'll put passion into your Gift. Your Gift is allowing you to make money by serving others!! 👏👏

Thanks for this inspirational video, that also gets very practical. I wrote everything out, you both advised. It helped me find my way back to my first priority dream life, which was getting pushed aside a bit. Thanks for helping me focus. Sometimes one business is necessary to help fund the core business of your life. As a typical idealist (according to the Myers Briggs Type Indicator: ENFJ), my ideals are so big, they need funding. The funding business is okay, but not the reason to be alive. It is to catapult the core business. Other idealists will understand what I mean. Just saying, that if you need A to get to C, sometimes it helps to acknowledge the power of B.

To the people that say that they don't have the time listen to (or read) Tiny habits by BJ Fogg and/or The Compound effect by Darren Hardy. People think they need to carve out hours everyday which is not true. You just need to make a small step everyday. An example would be if you want to work remotely then everyday open up your computer and turn it on. Eventually it will compound to working on your computer for an hour everyday (or when you have the time). If the hour is not there still open up that computer to keep the habit alive. After time has passed of just opening up your computer you'll be surprised that more often than not you end up doing the work for an hour or more.

That's all true. And that's where I struggle, and I know it. I've always perceived most of human society as "evil", and when you live in a world where you need to contribute to other people to be successful, or at least have a huge impact and turn it into profit - like most cases - it is really hard when all you want to do is to avoid people and to avoid society, like I do, because I do not want to be part of it at all and the only meaning that I can find would be to create a society myself, which is probably the most difficult task anyone could do - infinitely harder than creating rockets, cars, or going up on a stage to pretend you're powerful wearing a wig.

Nice quote. May I balance it with: "The love of money is the root of all evil." -- Bible Some godly people were and are truly rich. But not to keep it for themselves, but to bless many others with it. "Give and you shall be given." -- Bible "Those who give to the poor, lend to God." -- Bible "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, but lose his soul?" -- Bible It's not a bad thing to want to be paid for your work, but to never let those in need profit from it, would be wrong. So if you are always insisting on being paid, then be sure to 'pay it forward' as they say. One of the biggest riches in this world, is to live a life of fulfillment, which ultimately cannot be found in being rich all by itself. Wishing you much insight, wisdom and a spirit of generosity.

Depends on what your passion is. I have 2 passions becoming a real-estate investor and writing. Writing was my first passion but, on average the pay and success rate of an author varies but tends to be on a lower end and even if you become successful like George RR Martin it could take many years of your life and the right exposure to your work So I am going after my new passion which is life changing and then go for my original passion.

If the audio quality of the guest's voice in host's headset is similar to what I'm hearing on youtube, I'd be cutting her off too. The voice is grating. Nothing against the guest personally; But the quality of her voice as reproduced in this segment is like a razor scraping a chalkboard. Also, the guest seems to be the non-stop speaker. I notice the host waiting for breaks in speech to interject; but the guest continues talking after the host has interjected - so it may be a listening issue on the guest's end.

No, but it is common knowledge, that what you do not use, will shrink. It is so with your arm muscles. It is so with your brain. If you train your arm muscles, but give it up, they will shrink again. If you learn a language, but never use it anymore, you will gradually forget it. If you earn a master's degree, but cannot put your knowledge into any action, your knowledge will fade bit by bit over the years.

No, but there is some value in going to the real estate classes it doesn't matter if you get certified or not, as long as you absorb the knowledge.

Just had a friend who started a restaurant kill himself. He got way too far in over his head. Yes, you want to escape the hamster wheel but you need to always check your assumptions and be methodical about things. His faulty assumptions killed him.

For a podcast host herself, the guest Cathy Heller is clueless. She keeps interrupting, being hyper and not letting the host talk, participate and control the tone of the interview. Totally unaware of herself.

The last part was inspiring and practical. I took their advice and was amazed how answering their questions on paper helped me find my way back to my primary dream life quickly. I had already made many small steps towards it and even some giant leaps. But something came to block the view. This 'homework' helped me unblock and I am thankful.

That was not a rant. She was obviously talking way over your head. She was sharing insights and practical ways to get going. Guess you missed them all.

Eh more of the same, didnt find to much value in this one. Also avoid the music industry at all costs if you're smart.

Yeah, grew up in a musical family where the main bread-winner was "professional" musician... I tend to agree, do music for JOY - not for money. I will take this opportunity to plug a guy I think is doing great things in the teaching field here on YT - Rick Beato. There's a lot of flim-flam out there; But Rick's the real deal!
