There are so many connected threads between this work and the originals of years past. Familiar phrases, expressed in evolved and nuanced ways. This piece accomplishes something incredible, by *feeling* like other works in your history without being a carbon copy or just straight up ripping old elements into it. This art feels like the culmination of so many different efforts, and yet in some ways just one rung of an ever-climbing ladder. It was truly special to experience this much of your artistic journey. I'm so excited to see how far this can all go. Something I've always loved about your original work is a sense of dawning. It always feels like each piece is uncovering a new horizon to shoot for. Not many things inspire so much wonder these days. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Glad to hear you found and appreciated the threads, references and callbacks ^^ I'm also really glad to hear that you felt the song was unique in its own right! I put a lot more references into it originally, but it just started to feel like it wasn't its own thing, so I think I made the right choice in trimming a lot of them. It really warms my heart to hear that, thank you so much for that vivid description! Always love an original song! Dunno if it was intentional, but I noticed several melodies that were familiar. The beginning started like Mirror Temple from Celeste, then around the 1 minute mark it sounds a bit like Ocarina of Time's Title theme. At 1:30, there's definitely a sequence of notes that reminds me of Donkey Kong Country, either aquatic ambiance or stickerbush symphony, but its hard to tell off the top of my head. Then at the end, around 6 mins, it sorta sounds like His Theme from undertale? I'm sure I may be overthinking this as the rest of the song from here feels less familiar to me, but I just wanted to share. Super cool piece, I really love how you put everything together. It feels welcoming and familiar even though its original! Always a fan of your stuff Qumu :)

I thought I was the only one who heard OoT in this! 4:52 also vaguely reminds me of Celeste, not sure why. Whether or not it was intentional, it's pretty cool how it snuck in there but still sounds like something original.

@@qumumusic I’m really glad to hear that! Music is a universal language, both with or without words it is something everyone can understand to some degree :). And the better a composer becomes, the more people can obtain a greater understanding of it ^-^. What I really like about your piece is that it really is up to your interpretation completely as the listener - so entirely open as to what the scenario could be. Whereas take the piece from Debussy which translates as “the submerged cathedral”. It starts quietly, but towards the middle of the piece these thunderous chords crop up and the sound rises - you can hear this tremendous structure rising from the depths out of this giant body of water. And then towards the end of the piece it becomes quieter and the music more flowing, and you can envisage the cathedral sinking into the depths once more. I really recommend giving it a listen Qumu :). I wonder, as you continue to evolve in your music writing, if you will continue this total free-form style, or if perhaps you will try to convey a single pointed scenario like Debussy’s “La Cathédrale Engloutie”. Just food for thought for you, perhaps even a fun challenge for yourself, such as giving a title like ‘Lamp Light’ and making people envisage a flickering flame perhaps glowing in a wet cave or on the desk of some steampunk architect, or maybe instead a grand lava lamp in the middle of a 1970s dance floor. As someone who composes from time to time, it’s just to help you see and consider the possibilities where you could take your unique and amazing flavour of music :D. I can’t get enough of your style :3

A wonderful original by Qumu, it certainly was worth the wait. I love the blend of the acoustic and electronic instruments, the way that the stereo sounds work with the beat makes the feeling of moving away from it even greater. The start kinda sounds like something you'd hear from a futuristic Zelda or crosscode dungeon but then it transitions over to more of a modern city theme. After the break and when the acoustic sounds get a more prominent role it starts to feel more naturistic. At the end it slowly gets more and more gentle until it goes quiet and the song ends. Throughout the entire song you can just hear how this is an original work from you, it's hard to describe but it just has that sort of feeling, you can hear that it's your original work. Absolutely fantastic

This is so amazing, I truly have to hand it to you Qumu. I hear so many slight nods to different games I've been into recently (just through choices in instrumentation). 2:15 reminds me so much of the risk of rain 2 ost it's insane. The beginning also sounds exactly like Celeste, which is always a yes from me. Overall an amazing creation, keep up the amazing work, Qumu.

Please don't take this comment to be in any way diminishing of your fantastic originality and authenticity; This track answers the question of "what would Chrono Trigger sound like if qumu remixed it?" and I'm here for it. It's got that kind of vibe with all the originality of qumu, and I'm not implying this track is entirely referential, because it's got so much good intent within it, so many characteristics of your artistry. It's probably just because I've been listening to a lot of CT music lately, but maybe it's one of your inspirations, too. Rock the Casbah, qumu!
