Jami' al Tarmidi 101 references the prophet wearing a khimar. Not sure why men are not obligated to wear it as well. In addition, it would be great to know how women in that time actually wore the garnment..so for more accurate reference. Sheikh Shabir is amazing and so is Sufiya. Thank you.

I want to check this out. If the Prophet wore a khimar, I don't think it was to guard his modesty. Maybe it was just the custom because of the sun, heat, bugs, sand, and identity, etc. So then a woman wearing a khimar wasn't doing it to guard her modesty either, but it was a practical custom. So, it would really all be about covering the chest, not the hair. Today, we have buttons, zippers, and different cuts of clothes to keep the chest covered.

@@HitherandYarn the argument made by many other scholars is that the mere mention of "khimar" in Q24:31 makes it mandatory/compulsory. Yet, here in this hadith and many others, the prophet is specifically said to wear khimar, yet this logic doesn't apply to men. We know the prophet himself wore khimar. You would think it would be mandatory for men to wear it instead of women because of this, but not the case.

Although most of the classical commentators interpreted "what normally appears" as face & hands, Sheikh Ul Islam Ibn Ashur mentioned in this tafsir that a group of Mufassireen (probably a minority) also included hair in their interpretations. [When it came to slave women however, majority of the classical scholars allowed them to be bare headed]

Hair is not needed to be mentioned explicitly because by using the word 'headcover', implies that is what should be worn, otherwise if it was to include those who didn't wear a head-covering, then the verse could have simply stated 'to cover one's chest', without using the word 'headcover'. Perhaps the wording is specific in using an implied meaning, so as to test one's observance. On the authority of Abu 'Abdullah al-Nu'man bin Bashir (ra) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (sas) say: "The halal is clear and the haram is clear, and between them are matters unclear that are unknown to most people. Whoever is wary of these unclear matters has absolved his religion and honor. And whoever indulges in them has indulged in the haram. It is like a shepherd who herds his sheep too close to a preserved sanctuary, and they will eventually graze in it. Every king has a sanctuary, and the sanctuary of Allah is what He has made haram. There lies within the body a piece of flesh. If it is sound, the whole body is sound; and if it is corrupted, the whole body is corrupted. Verily this piece is the heart." [Bukhari & Muslim]

As he mentioned some concepts are already widely accepted by the community of the day and ppl knew the terminology. It is not necessary to say handcover or use the word ‘hand’ when you say ‘gloves’ for example. People know whats gloves covering. Same for khimar, this is a piece of cloth already in use of covering the head and God extends that concept by commanding draw it over your bosom. Khimar word comes from the same origin of alcohol which covers the intellect (head basically) .Companions of Muhammed pbuh practiced this as instructed and it is a significant part of modest dressing. Honestly I never had doubt about the necessity of headcover for women considering how hair is so sifnificantly attractive part of women beauty. But I understand the questions arise for further information as well. May Allah guides us all and keep us righteous ones❤

The Qur’an is comprised of universals and particulars. What do I mean? For instance, the matter of inheritance is a particular matter since the Qur’an explicitly states the conditions and all they entail. Same applies to the clearly established conditions of marriage, etc. The matter of hijab, which of course isn’t one of the pillars of Islam, is a universal matter left for interpretation depending on the realities it is to be lived in. The universal message of it is modesty; a society with the help of the best trained jurists are to discern what such and such matter means in various times and how it is to be applied.

We also have a similar tradition in Orthodox-Christianity, because we consider woman's hair as woman's pride/sign of social status, so our women are obligated to cover their hair when entering a church, as a sign of respect towards the priests and the holy place in general, but in our tradition the head-covering have nothing to do with sexuality, while in case of Islam, the hijab is basically a light/reformed version of the niqab, and was forced upon the women in order to protect the men from sexual urge, because Islam have no emphasis on self-control, so the hijab is nothing else, but a symbol of sexual objectification.
@ebrahim9583
@ebrahim9583 Жыл бұрын
The verse speaks of using the headscarf to cover the bosom - the covering of the head isn't necessarily for sexual modesty as that part of the verse, speaks of guarding one's beauty in general. Sometimes we must be careful not to infer and apply a singular understanding to the entire verse because of the understanding conveyed in another part of the same verse which was referring to their bosoms. "because Islam have no emphasis on self-control" - that is patently false. In that very same chapter, Surah Nur, there's a verse instructing both men and women to lower their gaze. This is in conjunction with a variety of verses and Prophetic narrations that encourage marriage and fasting to control sexual desire. One should be mindful of speech - "And who is more unjust than one who invents about God a lie." (11:18)

P.S. Women cover their hair in Orthodox Christianity, not because of the Priesthood, but simply because it is a dishonor to God, so Biblical scripture prescribes for women to cover their head when they pray. 1 Corinthians 11
@ivanos_95
@ivanos_95 Жыл бұрын
@@ebrahim9583 There would be no problem if the covering was limited to the hair, but the following verses are clarifying that the general point of covering is all about the sexual attraction, and the single fact that Islam is forcing the women to cover themselves for sexual reasons, goes against the emphasis on self-control in this particular case. Sure, the tradition of hair-covering for the women, or uncovering in case of the men is extended to personal prayer as well, but this tradition is focused primarily on the church/holy place, not directly on the relation with God. Anyway, my point was that the Islamic tradition of covering outside the sexual organs is not about the social status, like it's in case of Christianity, but only about the sexual urge of the men, and it's a sign that the women in Islam are treated primarily as sexual objects.

@@nu-nisamiracle2401 We have a concept of impure thought, but only when a man looks at other mans wife, or unmarried woman with an intent to have a sexual relation with her, absolutely not in case of admiring one's beauty. The problem is, that forcing a woman to cover herself for sexual reasons, instead of working on own self-control, is basically treating a woman as sexual object. We deal with this problem by working on self-control, in order to avoid treating a woman as sexual object in the first place.

Khimar means cloth to cover bossoms but men we’re writing hadith so they created or assume anything. That is why in today’s world we are facing such much of controversy and problems in society for women. Quran was simple in its instructions but some humans thought let’s protect our women by inserting & making little changes. When we play with Allah ‘s words and meanings for our benefit then that’s where the fitna arises only to test us with what we tried changing and thinking it would be beneficial but unfortunately no one can see ahead and no one knows the times how it will change except Allah. And now our sister daughter’s and wife , mothers are experiencing danger in this society being harmed only bcoz humans thought to add something that is better in hadith. Quran is simple and clear. Similarly Age of Hazrat Ayesha was controversial also . It’s time we question the authenticity of hadith over dajjal over iman mehdi . So what ever humans did which wasn’t mentioned in Quran created fitna in this society.
