Schools don’t care about privacy 🤠 Last year, my school used teams for online class, and sometimes we had to work in groups in so called “breakout rooms”. Later, we found out that the teachers STILL COULD HEAR US even when we thought we were alone in the call. We also found out that they could read our private messages on teams. They said that they didn’t do that if there wasn’t a reason for that, but still. I don’t know what else they can get to know about us without us knowing. I really considered sueing them, but i didn’t. Schools are control freaks

As someone living in Germany, its really horible how they try and handle digitalization here. Most of the legal stuff has to be done with letter or fax. Most companies don't want Emails because they're "not safe" because they don't wanna pay for online security. Most schools still have really old projectors and if they have classes with PCs, the computers are old and barely able to run Word and Excel. I could go on and on and on about this. We really don't handle this whole tech thing the right way, especially because Germany is a rather traditional country, even though it doesn't seem like that at first glance. Many people don't even wanna learn how to speak english, they don't want websites or anything internet related at all. I really do hope that this changes in the future, but that's something not many people outside of Germany actually know about and it surprises me because it's a day to day thing for someone like me.

@@GameyCat yes. Yes, yes, yes! It sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? But it's actually easy to understand why: Most of the population of Germany is old. Like, really, really old. The school system is horrible, it still works like the one we had a hundred years ago and because the old people are in charge, there is NO CHANGE! They make it that young people can't get invested in politics, which means that the old people have control over all of the laws. It's so stupid and embarrassing that it kinda hurts. I didn't learn English in school. I learned everything on the internet because after seven years of English classes we recently started learning about the simple past. I can't- I'm sorry, I'm getting really tense right now xD I just want people to know that this country full of ingenuity and money isn't able to move forward because the old people don't want things to change. Ok, the bottle one is a scam, but having some inside knowledge of the packaging industry, there *is* a scenario where it's not quite as scammy as it looks. See, plastics today have multiple layers. You have layers for strength, impermeability, and printability. Even a seemingly simple plastic bag may have as many as 12 layers. What they *might* have done here is take the plastic bottle and skipped a few layers and used a paper shell. But... I doubt it.

Since this is r/A*sholedesign based, may as well mention how Spotify's app when asking if you want to watch an ad for "30 minutes of no interruptions" (which is usually about 12-18 minutes max already) you have an option to click "no thanks". Spotify then proceeds to make you watch an unskippable 30 second to one minute ad, just to hear "enjoy your 30 minutes" for yet another 30 seconds even if you said "no thanks". That was a great use of an update to the software. update: instead of fixing it, they instead just removed the whole "no thanks" option all together. Alright then Spotify, makes total sense.

I've gotten into the habit of taking those ads from them and shoving them into the mail slot. If you're going to force me to deal with it, I'm going to force you to deal with it. Don't like it? Stop shoving my box full of junk or reduce the cost of the box.
@erraticonteuse3 жыл бұрын
It's not really USPS's fault, they've been dealing with a major political party wanting to put them out of business for decades despite their Constitutional mandate. Write to your House Rep and tell them to repeal the requirement for USPS to have employee pensions fully funded for the next 50 years (I might be wrong about the exact number, you might want to check that). No other government agency is required to do that, it's just a ploy to make the USPS look like it's broke when it's not. Check out the video "Delivering our Democracy" by Knowing Better.

Also the fact that USPS loses so much money because of the deal some idiot/mischievous politician brokered with Amazon. 9:35 ahh, yes. Lockdown browser. Before the pandemic the occasional online class required it, but didn't require use of the webcam. Still, the other problems were there so I'd go to Walmart, buy a new laptop, use it with that, return and repeat until the semester was over. That protected my computer at least. With the new webcam requirements? Well, I actually read the terms of service and basically they are recording the student spaces to be used in building an AI anti-cheat system and although the terms of service lets the school request deletion of data, it doesn't let the students do it and even if the school did request it it's also going through the same system that Amazon uses for building its facial recognition system meaning that the damage is done regardless so I have to make a point to avoid any of those classes in their entirety which hasn't been easy. I had one class that I was nearly through with and in the last part of the semester they decided they were going to start using lockdown browser with webcam for the final exam only and I dropped a class I was passing entirely because I wasn't going to put up with that BS.

14:20 I don't know if it's just where I've lived, but the benches in some bus stop shelters are slanted (and narrow af) so you can't even sit on them (you just kinda lean and slide off every few seconds) and that was my first encounter of "so the homeless can't sleep on them" and I just remember I was shocked - no, more than anything, I was just...confounded. Like why? Am I missing something? In a place where the buses stop at 8 does someone sleeping in a bus shelter bother anyone? My gran used to work at a train station, and the homeless would come in *the night before new years* to get some warmth. They weren't loud. They didn't do drugs while there, they didn't bother anyone. They just sat by a heater so they wouldn't bloody die. The cops came to try and toss them out for "disturbing the public peace". My gran kicked the cops out and said she'd call if there was any trouble. The homeless guys didn't make any trouble. Later *that same day* a gang of hooligans came in with a *clearly* stolen check from a business for about $50, and wanted *one* train ticket, one stop over, which came to about 40 cents, their plan, obviously, was to get the other $49.60 in cash. When my gran refused, and told them the check was stolen, and none of them could agree who actually needed the train ticket (not a well thought out plan), they started to get threatening and loud, scaring my gran, who was 21 at the time. Enter the hobos from before. Seeing the nice young lady being threatened, they tossed the mean kids out, and later, when closing time came, they *escorted* my gran to the safe deposit box, so she wouldn't get mugged. Society, and the powers in the cities in particular, need to stop seeing the homeless as less than human just because they don't have a roof over their heads.

In some parts of Germany, we use benches with arm rests between seats, so you can do nothing else but sit. But then again, if they can't sleep on benches, the'll sleep on the ground. But that would obviously be too noble.

@@MushookieMan Even flipped, it shows that gun deaths were reduced. Went from 873 to 721, with a massive increase in population. Stand your ground isn't designed to prevent gun deaths anyway, it's to allow a person to defend their life if someone is trying to take it. Not all "Gun deaths" were necessarily a crime against an innocent person. Many are cases of self-defense.

5:05 what you do is get yourself a pitcher of ice water. Soak a string in alcohol and tie it around the glass bottle near the top. Light the string on fire and let it burn for a bit. Then, pour the pitcher of ice water over the bottle. The sudden shift in temperature will cause the glass to break cleanly where the burning string was tied. You probably still won't be able to get the bottle out, but you should be able to shift it just enough to enable you to pour the contents out into another container.

@@speakofthedevil3216 Well, the burning string trick still has a decent chance of either not working, burning you, or shattering the glass bottle. Maybe you could borrow an angle grinder off of your neighbor or something. "My dumb ass relative welded my gift shut. Can I borrow your angle grinder?" Most decent people would agree around here at least.

Here’s one: I worked at a summer camp below minimum wage and one of their camp songs tried to make it okay by rubbing in the fact that they paid me 3 bucks an hour. Edit: that’s not an exaggeration, that was my literal paycheck.

@ilove bigbrother I think it was legal, but only because they used some sort of tax law shenanigans to take off my otherwise minimum wage pay ($7 an hour where I worked, so not much more) Also I knew the pay was that low beforehand, I just didn’t know they would rub it in like that.

The Hulu one didn't make any sense to me. A lot of streaming services like that simply the number of people able to stream the service in question using a single account at a time. Where as Hulu seems to have to be extra and tie the account to a specific IP for no apparent reason honestly. Oh and the textbook one has always infuriated me. I don't get why they charge so damn much for an unbound version of the book. Using very flimsy paper that has the holes punched near the damn edge, which means pages can easily tear out if your not careful, or you have a bad binder. Like companies are just cutting as many corners as they can, and it's getting frustrating.

6:30 Whats worse is when you do the ad to double rewards and it says "There are no available ads at this time" Then you hit 'next level' and get an ad..
@michael_janus2 жыл бұрын
Well that's a price for getting a game for free. When you download a free-to-play game you perfectly know publisher still somehow monetizes it so why complaining? Also they put a prompt there not because they like prompts but because they have normal and premium ads and any of those might be unavailable if no one paid for it.
@walkingdead97262 жыл бұрын
@@michael_janus alright, but if it gives me the choice to say no, and gives me an ad either way, thats what im complaining about, i understand they have to make money, but follow basic consent

@@walkingdead9726 Well, they actually ask you if you wish to get double points at the price of viewing an extra ad ) They never said they won't show you the default one regardless of your choice.
