@@notsosecretsnacker5218 Yes and no. If you are improving your property, or want to, you can't do it, as HoA actually hampers your efforts. If you're poor or don't give a shit about your property, it forces you to comply to a standard. Caveat: if you're part of an actual, legit, helpful, properly led HoA, not a bullshit one. However in the current market, being in an HoA actually lowers the prospect of you selling the property, since fewer and fewer people seem to be willing to put up with HoA bullshit. By law, a real estate agent has to disclose if the property is part of an HoA or not. Yes, you might get a higher price fro your property, but chances to sell it are much lower.

Honestly the "way you're dressed" thing is infuriating and wrong, first of all clothes are not consent, verbally saying "I consent" is consent, also it's bullshit, a friend of mine wears baggy clothes, (basically the Billie Eillish style.. She's also a fan of her so...) and she was harassed and nearly raped, she managed to land a solid punch and while it didn't take him down (and there was three of them) it gave her time to run to where I was (I'm a big woman, 6'2 and I go to the gym alot and fight alot.... Also I have a LICENSED gun for protection) so it ended well... Seriously tho.... That sucked and she was pretty shaken up by it... Where the hell is the clothes "consent" here? Hell some people think she's a guy sometimes due to how much her clothes cover up... Also she's a Genderfluid she/he... Like me. It'd have been confusing if I kept switching Pronounce... Yeah, My parents have a tracking device on my phone. I thought it was weird, considering that I don't like to go out, and spend most of my free time playing video games at home. My brother has it too, but if he wants to go to a party, he just asks, and my parents usually say okay. Although, the one time this backfired was when I was at Blizcon with an online friend (who we had met the day prior to verify that he was who he said he was). My geo location showed that I was in Malibu or something, even though I was still in the convention. My mom called me all pissed off, thinking I was lying about leaving to go off partying. It was pretty scary, because it took a long time to get them to believe me that I was at the convention. It wasn't until about 6 months later when I got an internship at a GPS defense contractor that I learned about signal jamming. My best guess is that there were a lot of electronics there, and a good deal of network play at the convention, so my phone's GPS tracker got jammed. That, or maybe the convention building acted like a massive Faraday cage. Idk, but It was pretty satisfying to say "I told you so".

I’m 16 myself! Talking is important and I understand being concerned for his daughters well being. The text thing was a bit extreme but the phone thing I kind of understand. He could just be a nervous type of person when it comes to his kids safety. She lied about what she was doing and knowing how teens that age can be she would do it again if she got away with it. Then it could very well escalate to much worse things. I’m not saying this would have happened but it is a possibility. Teens are naive and sometimes when they do something like breaking their parents rules they feel they can keep doing it. I may understand more being a 16 year old female myself. The whole outing Brett thing was accidental. He obviously didn’t mean to out the poor kid but it sounds like the kids dad didn’t care that he’s gay.

No one should be outed to their parents no matter if they "go against" the parent, The child should be the one to tell the parents. I have experiences where I've seen parents abuse children because they were gay, bi, pan, etc. When you give a child a cell phone, it's telling them you trust them, betraying that trust can ruin your relationship down the line big time.
@hello936173 жыл бұрын
Underage people shouldn't sneak into clubs. It puts them at risk (there are people who look for underage kids in the club, easier to victimize), it puts the club/security at risk (they can lose their licence). Also, the mother didn't know they were outing the other kid. They just called the other parent and told them what was going on.
@aum10402 жыл бұрын
The mother told the daughter that her privileges were conditioned on having the cellphone with her and location tracking on. The daughter violated that. There is no evidence that the mother deliberately outed the boy (or even accidentally). I agree it is questionable to track a 16 year old so closely, but given that this 16 year old was actually commiting serious and dangerous crimes, I think it's absurd to complain about the mother.
@kandrs74452 жыл бұрын
As cool as it is to bag on the parent, the intention was the safety of the child. The child broke trust three times. 1.) Intentionally leaving the phone to psych out her parents. 2.) Fowarding the call so they could be anywhere and purposefully lie about what they were doing 3.) Getting fake ids. The parent then reached out to the daughter's friend's parent to see if they had any knowledge. That parent had none. The children set the inciting incident to have the child outed themselves. That's the truth. They lied and they put themselves into a potentially bad situation. The Daughter could have been a lesbian, they could have been there to score drugs, they could have parked there and walked to any number of places. Those who live in medium to big cities know you park where you can. The parent didn't go to out anyone. The parent went to make sure their daughter was safe and bring her home. It is very true that the friend should choose their own time to share their truth. It's a special time and I've been proud to be apart of some of those moments in my friends' lives. But they broke rules and trust in a way that took that timing out of his hands. Quite Frankly, I would support my daughter's gay friend. Come out, you're welcome at my home as much as you ever were. But if you put my daughter in danger in part of finding yourself, THAT'S when my esteem falls for a friend like that.
@stanleyyy4272 жыл бұрын
The mother shouldn’t have outed him, but other than that I think she was justified. Tracking a child’s location is not an “invasion of privacy.” A parent should know their child’s location at all times because if something happens it’s on them(the parent). What the mother should’ve done is pick up both kids and take them home.

What trust was there? The daughter didn't trust her father enough to SAY where she was going openly. She didn't trust him to maybe explain why she was trying to help a friend find the courage to face that particular moment in life, and deal with it. Instead, she lied, she used a fake ID, and tried to break the law to get into a 21+ club. I don't consider myself a saint in any way shape or form. But one of the bedrocks of my relationship with my mother, is that she knows Hell will become a winter paradise, before I lie to her. That even as a teenager, I wouldn't deceive her or make up BS, to make things easier. THAT is where trust comes from. If this daughter cuts her father out of her life, it is no one's loss but her own.

Why would everyone be opposing OP though. We fnna have to read between the lines cause OP never said "The food the if had their own food" and OP definitely would have if, like all OP's, they were trying to make themselves look better for validation. So here's the facts: 1. The kid doesn't have food 2. He only steals small bits from everyone else. PP themselves say it's just a small nusance. 3. Everyone got upset at OP for making it so that theur food can't be stolen. Honestly this leads me to belive that the kid is poor or something along those lines and doesn't have anything to eat at lunch and everyone kinda just let's them steal cause they doesn't go overboard. So when OP added bacon specifically to make them stop everyone got upset with him. I'm not saying that the food thief isn't at least a bit of an asshole for not at least asking or something instead of straight up stealing but OP is kind of selfish or at least passive aggressive.

"answer calls or texts immediately" is a recipe for disaster, and mistrust. They're in a movie theater? likely their phone is off. Playing laser tag? not even gonna feel/hear the phone buzzing. At a street fair? same thing. And then mommy dearest thinks daughter is being sneaky or up to no good, and that only breeds mistrust. My parents asked us to check in while out and about, let them know when we were thinking we'd be back home, that kinda thing, but forcing kids to pick immediately just makes everything worse. Total butthole on the parent. Also, "if i hadn't installed the emergency phone in the car, i wouldn't have known about the shenanigans?" like yeah, you ask her about it once she gets home, maybe, but they were in a coffee shop, and weren't in much real danger. That's a pretty large dick move for a parent, especially outing someone gay. Even when it's not intentional, it's a dick move, and violating privacy is violating privacy. Don't be surprised when she acts up and does the same to your car and calls you and unnecessary times of the day
@ChillestSkeleton4 жыл бұрын
Stop always blaming the kids actions on the parents. If there was a trusting relationship between parent and child there would be no need for the emergency phone. However, when your child lies about where they are, sneaks out to a place with alcohol and potentitenally dangerous people lingering around, you can’t ignore that. They could have put themselves in actual danger. The parents are LEGALLY responsible for her until she is an adult. Her parents were teens once which and they know what they used to do at that age too. She obviously had not earned her parents trust and this just proves she was not to be trusted in the first place. People parent differently, but a parent that gives a shit about their kid is going to do what’s best for them if that be making them earn independence or prove responsibility.
@dx14504 жыл бұрын
As soon as I read/heard "answer calls or texts immediately," I knew the dad was a control freak. I mean, sometimes kids are going to be busy and/or not near their phone. Justin Rogers and who’s responsibility is it for there to be a trusting relationship? As rSlash pointed out, if it’s an emergency phone, why are they checking it at all times? It’s a snooping phone, nothing less
@ChillestSkeleton4 жыл бұрын
Sam Schellhase Check the original post they used the old phone as a tracker in the girls car because she was gps spoofing on her phone. It’s on both parties that there is not a trusting relationship. However, you can’t say that the parents are snooping or always checking it because you don’t know if that’s true. They let their daughter leave the house so they have a right to want to know where their daughter is when not at home. They are legally responsible for her. It’s not snooping it’s taking a concern in your kids.
@samschellhase88314 жыл бұрын
Justin Rogers Justin Rogers no, it’s not the kids job to maintain trust in a parent-child relationship. OP called it an ‘emergency phone’ but doesn’t use it as an emergency phone. She used it to snoop on her kid, and while yes, the kids did try to do something wrong, the parent went about it the wrong way. Yeah, they want to know where she is. So ask them. Where are you. @@elenabob4953 so what? Teenagers rebel. They have a mind of their own and aren't remote-controllable drones. That's a good thing. Have I done stupid shit as a teenager? Yeah, sure. Shit my parents didn't approve of? You bet. But that's the thing - that's part of growing up. It's part of life. Those are experiences you need to make in order to grow as a person. Parents naturally want to shelter their children from everything negative, but that's actually incredibly idiotic, because if the parents do that until their kids are of age, those kids will never have had to overcome any adversity, had to deal with any consequences of the things they do, nothing at all. They will reach adulthood and be completely and utterly unprepared for the things life will throw at them, and the result is a generation of entitled, self-absorbed, whiny morons. That aside .... tracking the location of a teenage kid isn't only ridiculously overkill, it's, in my eyes, an utter infringement upon the kid's right to privacy. Children aren't your fucking property, and yea, they do have a right to privacy even (and maybe especially) from their parents. A parent does not NEED to know and control their child's every move, action and thought, and if you ask me, a parent doesn't have the right to attempt to, either. You say the kid showed she couldn't be trusted. The point is, the mother never even ATTEMPTED to trust, why should the kid make any effort? Furthermore, with sneaky, obsessively controlling shit like that, the mother herself isn't trustworthy to a teenage kid either. Tracking your movements? Thats considered violating her privacy? He's not a creepy step dad putting a hidden teddy bear cam in her fkn bed room dude. I agree with all the comments about the therapist story. In fact, therapists have to do the same thing when talking to people who commit murder or other crimes like that. They CAN NOT pass judgment on their clients or show their own biases. Their job is to listen and help the client come to terms with their own feelings and help them come up with a plan to improve their own life choices.

There are countries where convicted murders get therapy in prison. The therapy helps the prisoner to deal with it so that they can go back to normal society if that's a option. After they have done their time ofcourse. It's also a way to keep the wackos in prison because a therapist has a see if a prisoner can get out early for good behavior inside prison for example.

In regards to the son and therapist, the Therapist is 100% responsible for not setting the expectations. They should have let her know what to expect. The therapist was 100% the A-hole.
@katiecunningham46074 жыл бұрын
To the mother who came out: I don’t think you are really familiar with what the aim of therapy actually is. In order for any initial bond to be formed with a patient, they have to not feel judged, like they can speak openly about their beliefs, even if the therapist does not agree with them. It’s called radical acceptance, and is necessary for a good outcome in treatment. The therapist was not trying to attack you, merely to do their job. That being said, you have the right to walk out if you couldn’t handle it. I don’t know exactly why you were in the room, but I’m going to assume it was a conjoined meeting (family therapy). However, if you cannot handle being in the room to hear your son process how you hurt him, even unintentionally, I think your son may better benefit from individual therapy. It’s actually a bit presumptuous in this case to go to family therapy with him immediately and not get him individual counseling. This may be just my interpretation, but it sounds more like you wanted answers from him than wanting to get him help, which would have been better accomplished in an individual therapy setting. So yes, OP, you are being a bit of a butthole here.
@daltonrollings38844 жыл бұрын
Katie Cunningham I interpreted it from her perspective of walking into a professionals office and him saying that it was ok for him to have those feelings. I understand that as being wrong and so do you but, maybe just from the way I read it, she didn’t understand what was happening and felt “attacked” . She wasn’t but can we call her a butthole for not understanding something, feeling hurt, and leaving a situation that may have been causing harm? She did wrong sure but if she’s not aware of the wrong doing I personally don’t think she’s a butthole but in the wrong regardless
@katiecunningham46074 жыл бұрын
Dalton Rollings I definitely understand the feelings from her point of view, which is why I said she was justified in walking out, and she is totally valid in feeling hurt. However, being ignorant and being a butthole are not mutually exclusive - even if she didn’t intend to come off that way, she did. She potentially severely damaged a therapeutic bond because she didn’t understand how therapy is supposed to go. I wouldn’t rate her high on the butthole scale. I also didn’t say she IS a butthole, I said she’s BEING a butthole. I mean agree to disagree I guess. Either way, thanks for taking the time to respond!! Means a lot ❤️

Then she eventually added the second tracker after her daughter pulled the "dead battery" excuse one too many times. Since op specifically complained about it, I'm sure the daughter has used that trick, otherwise there's no reason to bring that up. To me, this is like if you hired a babysitter. You then got suspicious that they were doing something bad, so you installed hidden cameras in your home, without informing them. And then the hidden cameras caught them stealing from you. You rightfully call them an a-hole thief, but then people online say that you were an a-hole for spying on them. That seems absurd, right? Trust is not automatically good. I was still grounded at 19 and phone taken off me, even when I moved out, my step mum demanded I leave my phone with them if I did something they didn't like... I didn't even live there 😒

Yeaaaaaah the "emergency phone" story set off red flags right away. The rule to always call or text back right away, "no dead battery excuses" is a major red flag for over controlling, manipulative, and/or emotionally abusive parents. The phone was obviously used to spy on his daughter, not protect her. And he had no reason to get Brett's parents involved. I suspect they knew his parents wouldn't approve of his sexuality and wanted to humiliate him the moment they realized what the teens were up to. Are the kids at fault? To a degree, yes. But given how strict OP is, I honestly can't blame the daughter. It's a universal law that super strict parenting does not teach kids to be obedient and honest. It teaches them to lie and disobey more creatively.
@jug20244 жыл бұрын
Strict parents make sneaky kids, and the parent in the story doesn't seem to realize that. they can't have a nice realationship with them, they can't even really talk to them without being scared that they are going to get punished
@hideki4234 жыл бұрын
That is not true at all. Parents should be should be strick. A parents job is to take care of there kids and teach them to be good people. If i had kids and then did something like this, they would literally be on lock down till tgey either learned a lesson or till I think I could trust them. There is such thing as being to strick but this is not even close. Kid would be lucky to be allowed to drive again in my house.

Oof I know exactly what you mean by the "text/call back immediately". My mom was mentally abusive towards me and she would always do that, on top of screaming at me if I didn't return 1 simple text. Now I'm with my dad and she texts me a few times occasionally but I just tend to leave her on read.

Quit trying to justify BREAKING THE LAW. She was a minor. Do you have any idea how dangerous it can be for underage kids to be at the club scene???? Why is everyone so quick to defend the kids? And my parents were very strict and I wasn't sneaky AT ALL. Just sounds like an excuse to do illegal things. Parents can be strict or not. That's THEIR decision. It doesn't justify bad behavior. If the cops were more active in your area, does that give you the right to commit more crimes because you feel threatened? They aren't even your parents, giving you food and shelter. Give me a break.

I think that you to some degree were right about the last one, but that you also missed an important side to the story. The way the story was written made it obvious that she had been the subject of abuse and discrimination because of her sexuality which is hard to get past without at least some trauma. The result of her staying there could have been a lot worse and I think removing herself was understandable and to some degree also the best choice

That last one reminds me of an article that came out 4 years ago. It was by a woman who during her youth was celebrated like the poster child for the "lesbian revolution". She was brought up in a gay commune of sorts and was received to be a symbol for the homosexual community that children can be raised in that environment. Well her article broke many hearts when she admitted that not only could she not align herself with the gay community but she felt from her own personal experience that children shouldn't be raised by same sex parents. She had harbored a deep pain and shame for what her mother did to her father, the way the community treated him and blocked his ability to see his own child. It just one of those things where no one wins, but what worst it seems that even if all things being made equal the child always loses.

For some reason LGBT + allies tend to dismiss all negative attitudes towards them and their community as people simply choosing to be bigoted and hateful. While that may sometimes be the case, other times people just have a hard time processing what's going on. A good example is a girl you've known and hung out with and even crushed on for the better part of 15 years comes out as trans and is now a man... that switch and acceptance for people around you isn't always instantaneous or easy, even if no ill will is intended.

for the parent tracking the kid story. Well if you feel justified cause you caught something, good for you, but don't ever expect the kid to trust you ever again. And they will hide even more from you from that point. You were not doing it out of being worried for the kid's safety, but doing it to prove that you are right not to trust her. Trust goes both ways, should have gave the kid a chance to explain her actions first
