I do want to know how the babysitter didn't realize it was hard seltzer. All of them that I've seen are clearly labeled, have clear alcohol content warnings, and taste like alcohol. Surely anyone who drinks even a little would know somethings up. Either way, op is definitely in the wrong

Initially when I heard the title _"AITA For Firing My Babysitter For Getting Drunk On The Job"_ I thought *HELL NO YOU'RE NOT!* But upon hearing the story, I agree with rSlash. The girl said she liked seltzer water, so OP started keeping it in the house for her. They never told her that they bought some ALCOHOLIC seltzer for themselves. She unknowingly drank it and got drunk. She immediately called and told them she wasn't fit to babysit anymore that day. The blew her off. Then *_THEY_* blamed *_HER_* for *_THEIR_* screw up. They get infinity out of 5 assholes here. My father was a mean drunk and abusive as hell to the point that I started sleeping with a loaded rifle in my hands when I was 12. So I understand the babysitter completely. She is an angel, and will be an amazing mother when she has her own children, if she chooses to do so.

Man, usually I agree with Rslash's verdicts but that wedding one was definitely not an "everyone sucks" situation. Just because you personally have a good relationship with your brother doesn't mean that everyone has amazing relationships with their siblings. Personally, me and my brother don't get along at all and only talk to each other when we absolutely have to but even then he would automatically be invited to my wedding because he's my immediate family member. I would never make any of my family members do something as dumb as write me essays explaining "how much they would LOVE to attend my wedding". The sister needs to get off her high horse and uninvite people herself like a big girl and explain that since there's a PANDEMIC currently taking place she will keep the guest list to family and close friends.

This whole "It's a small price to be able to attend their wedding" is the pinnacle of stupidity. I adore my parents and their respective partners as they're seperated, along with my sister, her boyfriend, my aunt, grandma, I have a close-knit family, I'd be on the verge of arguing for postponing it if some couldn't join and bend/break any rules possible. This Karen insisting on having her sister write an essay IS insulting, it's not even in the realm of possibility or realism that it's a thing. Either you love your family, you don't, or it's a step below "I'm so happy my friend Madison has her tongue halfway up my colon". If I were in that situation I wouldn't go.

I’m having the exact opposite experience with my sister’s wedding. Due to covid they’re only inviting family and she almost forgot to tell me I’m her maid of honor 😂😂😂 my mom had to remind her that she needed to actually ask me. She just assumed I’d know that she wanted me as the maid of honor (I didn’t I assumed she was going to ask her best friend). I can’t imagine not even being allowed at her wedding without jumping through hoops because SHES MY SISTER. Side note she asked me with enough time that I could plan a bachelorette party at least 😂😂😂 she doesn’t want one because she’s not a partyer but I’m taking her and the rest of our side of the family to a rollercoaster park because she’s a big adrenaline junky and her fiancé is terrified of rollercoasters

Hackie Puffs It may have been too harsh, but given the fact that OP literally fired someone bcuz of her own screw up is just stupid. I honestly wouldn’t believe that a scumbag like that would suddenly have a change of heart. Plus, the compensation that OP was suggesting is WAAAY too much, i get paying for her permit and license but upping her pay to 1500$/week for a BABYSITTER? That’s just unbelievable, plain and simple, i understand bumping it up to 15 or even 20/hr, (which would amount to a good 300-500 or so per week) but 1500?? I’m pretty sure that’s the kind of pay a high end engineering job, Medical Occupation, or even a CEO position in a massive company would get (unless of course the raise that OP is talking about isn’t permanent and is probably only gonna last a week, then that would make sense as compensation)

@@heidtb6746 It really bothers me when literal fudging strangers give a woman who says no to a public proposal a hard time. Since I don't mind confrontation in the slightest, I went off on a restaurant full of people who legit loudly booed a woman who turned down one such proposal. She ran out crying when the boos got really loud & aggressive. The dude just went back to eating. Geez I remember being so friggin mad though. My late husband said he saw my eyes flash (idk what that means) & he said he just leaned back to watch the show. I stood up & said loudly "How many of you know these people? Do ANY of you know them? How the hell do you know this isn't their 3rd date & he isn't seriously jumping the gun? How do you know anything at all? You people are trying to pressure a stranger into marriage, one in which had this discussion EVER have come up before now & it absolutely should have, he would have already known the answer so was using you assholes to try pressure a yes against her wishes. I find you all disgusting as hell." Then I slowly glared around the room & saw a whole lot of blushing & heads down because they hadn't really bothered to think through what they were doing or how it would be to be on the receiving end of a fudging stealth proposal from someone you don't want to marry followed by a room full of strangers booing you for that choice. I also saw a smirk & a raised eyebrow from the late husband that almost made me laugh before I was done glaring at the room. He was a people pleaser so it always amazed him just how willing I always was to not give a bloody damn what anyone thought & stand up for what I believed in. On the story of the ICU nurse, she is not wrong, there are two issues: her husband is being lazy and needs to be more responsible, and it may also be possible that her long work days are putting a strain on their relationship. They need to talk about it, but he still get 3/5 for his overall lack of effort in this partnership. On the story of wedding essays, the sister and family are being petty on this whole affair. OP does not have any need to write an essay in order to go the wedding, the small "price to pay" adds up to the other costs (round trip, hotel stay, food, money missed from not working, and the wedding present). OP is a 0/5, rSlash gets a 2/5 for implying that writing that essay is part of OP's obligation to his sister; he does not owe them anything and if they are so incompetent to rearrange their invitations or impatient to wait for a better time than that's on them. rSlash you forget that if there is still a pandemic at the time of the wedding then they are putting their guests at risk.

The first story reminds me of when my sister would say things or do things around my grandma and then pretend like she didnt. My grandma thought it was the onset of dementia which a couple of her siblings have, so its a very real risk and fear. She told me about how she was scared, didnt know what she was going to do and is actually on the younger side of people who develop it. My sister told me what she was doing and laughed about it and I snapped at her telling her that grandma really thought she was losing her mind. Luckily my sister stopped after I made her realize.

I'm a stubborn bastard and also not that close with my family so I know I'd dig my heels in over this kind of thing, but I can see why some people would see it as being needlessly stubborn. 500 words really isnt that much to write, so you could always just be the bigger person and suck it up for their special day, so there's some suckiness there if you want to be stubborn.

For the wedding essay one: everyone does NOT suck, only the bride to be (and I suppose her parents for encouraging it). There's no excuse for having immediate family apply to be invited. In fact, there's no reason to have anyone write 2 essays to be considered. When you have to scale down a guest list sometimes you have to make hard choices, and that's on you not the guests. Substitute teacher here. An essay is supposed to determine if the student has read & understood the material, as well as critical thinking skills and the ability to put together a coherent argument. This is more like at the beginning of King Lear when the old idiot divides up his kingdom based on which of his daughters says she loves him most (spoiler: the two horrible daughters lie about “loving only him” & get everything, the honest daughter says “I love you, but I also need to love my future husband” and gets exiled). Only with an expensive wedding trip instead of a Kingdom on the line.

Question about that story with the babysitter: Why did they have hard seltzer? That's not a common or appetizing drink, and they don't indicate if they were planning on mixing it with anything. It sounds like they're leaving out the part where they bought it *intending* on tricking the babysitter into drinking it. It also sounds like it was left where the regular seltzer water was, and that they didn't warn the babysitter. Plus, OP seemed to have a really irrational and immediate response when she was alerted, and seems to be leaving out the girl's parents who would be interested in all of this. The more one thinks about it the more it seems less like the act of stupidity and definite malice. So 5/5 YTA for this situation.

@J Feva As someone who is insanely lazy let me tell you this is 100% not a case of cheating, this is finding any possible excuse NOT to do something just to keep time all to yourself. I'd do this all the time back in High School, look for shortcuts around homework and schoolwork, I wasn't the best when it came to grades, but I was far from stupid. My point is OP's husband clearly is so used to his "Me" time that he can't deal with having to go through "Us" time with his wife, so he makes up whatever bullshit excuses he can to continue playing video games all day. However I agree OP SHOULD kick him to the curb, I know if I was in a relationship and married, I'd spend as much time with my SO as able to. OPs husband is clearly selfish and lazy, however she should talk to a lawyer to ensure if a divorce happens, which it should for OPs sake, that her husband sees as little as possible, hopefully nothing at all from her.

I'm not saying OP is the butthole if their friends didn't know about her situation, I'm just saying someone could argue that she is. @@michelb.5186 It is quite clearly said in the story that the friends didn't know about OP's conditions. Regardless, there is a certain limit between pranks and bullying. If a group of "friends" decides it will be fun to try and convince one of them that he/she is going crazy and spend DAYS or even WEEKS to execute their plan, that's way overboard! A good prank would never last for so long period of time, that is bullying, plain and simple. Like, if they wanted to do something like that, maybe it would have been fun to try the thing with the T-Rex head and keep it going for some minutes, or an hour MAX. Not weeks.

There isn't a clear line between what's a prank and what's bullying though, so I understand if someone disagree, but in my opinion bullying is when you intentionally harm someone (physically or emotionally) while a prank is you just messing around with someone. In this scenario OP's friends did harm her but it wasn't intentional, they meant to just mess with her, that's why I personally consider it a prank that went too far.
