Initially when I heard the title _"AITA For Firing My Babysitter For Getting Drunk On The Job"_ I thought *HELL NO YOU'RE NOT!* But upon hearing the story, I agree with rSlash. The girl said she liked seltzer water, so OP started keeping it in the house for her. They never told her that they bought some ALCOHOLIC seltzer for themselves. She unknowingly drank it and got drunk. She immediately called and told them she wasn't fit to babysit anymore that day. The blew her off. Then *_THEY_* blamed *_HER_* for *_THEIR_* screw up. They get infinity out of 5 assholes here. My father was a mean drunk and abusive as hell to the point that I started sleeping with a loaded rifle in my hands when I was 12. So I understand the babysitter completely. She is an angel, and will be an amazing mother when she has her own children, if she chooses to do so.

Man, usually I agree with Rslash's verdicts but that wedding one was definitely not an "everyone sucks" situation. Just because you personally have a good relationship with your brother doesn't mean that everyone has amazing relationships with their siblings. Personally, me and my brother don't get along at all and only talk to each other when we absolutely have to but even then he would automatically be invited to my wedding because he's my immediate family member. I would never make any of my family members do something as dumb as write me essays explaining "how much they would LOVE to attend my wedding". The sister needs to get off her high horse and uninvite people herself like a big girl and explain that since there's a PANDEMIC currently taking place she will keep the guest list to family and close friends.

This Karen insisting on having her sister write an essay IS insulting, it's not even in the realm of possibility or realism that it's a thing. On the story of the ICU nurse, she is not wrong, there are two issues: her husband is being lazy and needs to be more responsible, and it may also be possible that her long work days are putting a strain on their relationship. They need to talk about it, but he still get 3/5 for his overall lack of effort in this partnership. On the story of wedding essays, the sister and family are being petty on this whole affair. OP does not have any need to write an essay in order to go the wedding, the small "price to pay" adds up to the other costs (round trip, hotel stay, food, money missed from not working, and the wedding present). OP is a 0/5, rSlash gets a 2/5 for implying that writing that essay is part of OP's obligation to his sister; he does not owe them anything and if they are so incompetent to rearrange their invitations or impatient to wait for a better time than that's on them. rSlash you forget that if there is still a pandemic at the time of the wedding then they are putting their guests at risk.

About the first story... it hurts me so much to hear that. I have quite an intense & extensive mental illness combo, which includes schizophrenia-like symptoms (hallucinations, delusions, psychosis, ...). That's one of the things that I'm most paranoid about, everyone ganging up on me/everyone being "in on the joke". It almost made me cry to hear that OP got treated like that... I can't even begin to imagine how that must feel for it to actually happen. Because it's something that it's a paranoid thought that I deal with everyday. Sending all of the love and support to OP 💙💙

Yup. She does want to attend but the couple wants to put the burden of disniviting people on the guests themselves. @LadyLeomon4 жыл бұрын
The Nightmaric Senpai *thank you!* I totally agree, this is just the bride (quite possibly the groom too) wanting an ego boost because it’s “their special day”. For distant relations/acquaintances you hardly see _MAYBE_ I could understand it (if this is the case then why invite them at if you aren’t that close?) ... but for your own parents and siblings? Nuh-uh! I’d tell the bride she could, as we say in my area, “you can f*ck that for a lark!” (And on top of this she still expects presents from those not selected?! Lunacy 😂😂😂)

I suppose it depends on whether you think 500 words is more valuable than the relationship with your family. I'm a stubborn bastard and also not that close with my family so I know I'd dig my heels in over this kind of thing, but I can see why some people would see it as being needlessly stubborn. 500 words really isnt that much to write, so you could always just be the bigger person and suck it up for their special day, so there's some suckiness there if you want to be stubborn.

For the wedding essay one: everyone does NOT suck, only the bride to be (and I suppose her parents for encouraging it). There's no excuse for having immediate family apply to be invited. In fact, there's no reason to have anyone write 2 essays to be considered. When you have to scale down a guest list sometimes you have to make hard choices, and that's on you not the guests. As OP stated, attending would already be costing her thousands of dollars. Essentially asking her to beg for the opportunity to do so is going too far.

Question about that story with the babysitter: Why did they have hard seltzer? That's not a common or appetizing drink, and they don't indicate if they were planning on mixing it with anything. It sounds like they're leaving out the part where they bought it *intending* on tricking the babysitter into drinking it. It also sounds like it was left where the regular seltzer water was, and that they didn't warn the babysitter. Plus, OP seemed to have a really irrational and immediate response when she was alerted, and seems to be leaving out the girl's parents who would be interested in all of this. I would never write an essay to attend a wedding, especially a brother or sister, as if they need me to write the essay to prove my love, then they must truly not love me. I understand the point in post, but, they did the essay to cope out of choosing who to send invites to, and make it look like they are inviting on merit. They need to just be grownups and make a decision without requesting others to suck up.
@cherryblossom000004 жыл бұрын
I'm close with my sister but if she asked me to fill out an application to her wedding I would go off too and say I'm not doing it. Immediate family members should automatically be invited. I know a lot of people don’t like the first Op’s friends. A lot of people don’t like that the “prank” was for a week NTA A lot of people don’t like the second Op. The babysitter didn’t mean to get drunk, she thought it was seltzer. A lot of people say they can’t tell the difference between seltzer or hard seltzer. This is such a YTA. Third Op’s husbands a POS NTA Fourth Op’s sister... why? If you do want them there, don’t make them do the essay. If I was Op, I would say “I’ve been told I have to go to your wedding, so that’s why”. NTA the bride is a bridezilla Fifth Op’s cousin is gonna be come a groomzilla. The (probably) fiancee is gonna be a bridezilla NTA The sixth one’s title is kinda misleading. I hate that everyone is ok with Jane breastfeeding, but one person has to complain. There(their?) reason (a man being around) is ok with it. NTA

This is really long, sorry :/ The group in the first one is mean, they bullied her and made her seem like she was going crazy. The second one got a 16 year old with PTSD drunk for the first time because you did a stupid thing then fired her for you being extremely stupid. In the third one, the husband sucks and needs to get his priorities straight. The fourth one, you shouldn't have to write an essay to go to a wedding and get basically graded on it. The fifth one, I think that it's a bit selfish and rude to propose or make an announcement at any wedding especially a virtual one. The sixth one is confusing, do you want a baby to eat or cry the whole time instead? Honestly, some people are just dumb and mean.

English is my second language so I might not have fully understood the story, but in the first one it wasn't clear to me whether or not the friends were aware of OP's condition. If they were aware I agree the "friends" are complete buttholes in the story and OP is not the butthole. But if they only became aware after OP went to the hospital, then they weren't the buttholes (specially because they apologized right after) and I might even give OP 1/5 buttholes for not accepting their apology.
@kelsx97414 жыл бұрын
Michel B. Even if they didn’t know op isn’t the butthole either way she went to metal torture that came to her hospitalizing herself even if they didn’t know I don’t think she had to except their apology after the trauma they put her through
@michelb.51864 жыл бұрын
@@kelsx9741 That's a good point, but at the same time I think we should try to look at the situation from OP's friends point of view. They pranked their friend, the prank ended badly because of a condition they didn't know about, and they apologized immediately. I'm not saying OP is the butthole if their friends didn't know about her situation, I'm just saying someone could argue that she is. But if the friends knew about it then they're clearly the butthole and OP is not, there's no possible argument against it.
@Juubith954 жыл бұрын
@@michelb.5186 It is quite clearly said in the story that the friends didn't know about OP's conditions. Regardless, there is a certain limit between pranks and bullying. If a group of "friends" decides it will be fun to try and convince one of them that he/she is going crazy and spend DAYS or even WEEKS to execute their plan, that's way overboard! A good prank would never last for so long period of time, that is bullying, plain and simple. Like, if they wanted to do something like that, maybe it would have been fun to try the thing with the T-Rex head and keep it going for some minutes, or an hour MAX. Not weeks.
@michelb.51864 жыл бұрын
@@Juubith95 I agree the prank went a little bit too far, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it bullying. If they knew about her condition and decided to prank her that way, then I'd consider it bullying, but since they didn't know I, personally, wouldn't say that's bullying. There isn't a clear line between what's a prank and what's bullying though, so I understand if someone disagree, but in my opinion bullying is when you intentionally harm someone (physically or emotionally) while a prank is you just messing around with someone. In this scenario OP's friends did harm her but it wasn't intentional, they meant to just mess with her, that's why I personally consider it a prank that went too far.

My wife was a pieds nurse. A "bad day" for one of them is something the rest of us can hardly imagine. There is no way someone in that line of work should ever have to come home to a partner who doesn’t take adult responsibilities. I dislike telling a stranger what they "need to do", but kicking that man-baby to the curb would probably be a weight off her shoulders.

Every now and then people say stuff like that as a joke, and every time I try to stay calm and tell them that stuff like that really messes with me and I'd appreciate it if they didn't joke about those things. Regarding the story with the overworked wife and the man child husband, she needs to lose him like a bad habit. If I were in his position, I'd be making her dinner every night and trying to pamper her since she's working so damn hard. The fact that he can't even spend a day with her says there are some underlying problems, and one of them being that he's a spoiled child in a mans body. As for the story where the wedding guests are expected to write an application essay, OP should send in one with two words "F**k off".

I have to agree with others expecting people to write, not one but two essays so they can spend thousands of dollars to attend your wedding is ridiculous. They might have had a leg to stand on if the couple was paying for everything, but they aren't. Refusing to put on a song and dance for this entitled couple because they are too lazy to trim the list themselves does not make someone a butthole, it just confirms the couple is the butthole
