It's so interesting conversation.
The difference of the strawberries in the US and Japan. When I buy strawberries in the US, half of the batch is already gone bad lol. That costs $5 (non-organic). If I buy strawberries in Japan, they have ZERO rotten ones, so none of the strawberries are bad to begin with. It costs $3 for like 15-20 strawberries. It's actually not that expensive if you think about how many "clean and sweet" strawberries you get compared to the US. The SUPER expensive ones like the $15 strawberries are the brand named ones, which we only buy occasionally. Cereal aren't really popular in Japan lol. It just isn't our taste.
It was my first visit to your channel today. Being Japanese, I found you are so encouraging to English learners in Japan that I immediately became a subscriber. This video is very informative and exciting for those Japanese who have never been to American supermarkets! Now, there is one small thing I want to point out in your conversation. Regarding the topic of cheese, the term "natural cheese" in Japanese supermarkets is in contrast to "processed cheese" and is not used as the antonym for "unnatural cheese." LOL. I am looking forward to your future videos.

I’m in CA, I’ve never seen the one-stop shops which sell tires, clothes, and furnitures except COSTCO! I was surprised😳 Also, the price of specific foods here such as eggs and green onions are a lot more expensive than Japan. I can easily get a pack of eggs for $1.5 in Tokyo, but it is $3 or more at Trader’s Joes or other regular shops unless you buy them at COSTCO or Grocery Outlet. Yes, fruits are cheaper here in the States. But, due to the high inflation, a lot of things are now cheaper in Japan😭 Everything is a way more expensive in CA than 20 years ago….the cost of living in CA is insane. I guess it all depends on which parts of the U.S. you live in terms of the price of goods.

For various cheeses, you have to go to the gourmet supermarkets like Kinokuniya, Seijo Ishii etc or huge department stores like Tokyu, Seibu, Tobu, Mitsukoshi, Daimau etc.
There’re grocery stores that are more like ones in the US in rural areas in Japan. For instance, Beisia has a gas station, pharmacy and clothes shops other than food.
Thank you for sharing a nice video clip for Japanese food cultures. I think I need some comments about a rice. I want you to know why Japanese people take serious about rice and It is not a bias against abroad rice. As you may know, the most of Japanese eats rice as main meal like western people eat bread. In 1997, Japan had to import rice from Thai land due to shortage of rice, but Thai rice is a different kind of rice from japonica and we needed to try different cook. From this experience, I think Japanese supermarkets emphasize “this rice came from abroad”
Thank you for uploading!!

Those Safeway style grocery stores in Japan would be Itoyokado, Aeon, etc. They have pharmacies, book stores, clothes, furnitures, electronics, and so on. I'm surprised you didn't have a chance to go to those places. Search for those stores!
I really enjoyed the conversation. I do grocery shopping often to grab fresh fish, like sashimi/sushi🍣 and the opposite of natural cheese is processed cheese, I guess.

They said one stop shop is not in Japan but actually we have AEON in Japan. I think most of cultural differences come from whether city side or country side, not from Japan or US.
I live in Hawaii and we go to Costco every week or 2. It's convenient to get clothes and gas too. But Japan has lot's of varieties and bentos I miss. We have cereal with raisin but I don't want to pick up sugar inside too much so I get kind of granola one. I never had ate honeycomb one, I like to try sometime. I know Japanese toast is thick with butter is so good. And I'm from Osaka and specially miss Okonomiyaki!! I make it by myself but taste isn't same. I eat brown rice so it 's not too bad. I don't eat meat too much but I miss the thin meat. Opposite from you guys. I love greek yogurt also. Thank you for this conversation. It was interesting.

2:21の "when I went to Kentucky and I would go east" のwouldはどういう意味でしょうか?
19:00 It's so fanny. American people get so loquacious when it comes to cereal. Nothing come to my mind that Japanese can heat up like that.

I really love this video! This is such an excellent English learning material!! Just for your information, we have natural chees and processed cheese here in Japan.
Seattle is actually very expensive. I was just there a month ago and the strawberries were very delicious but it was $5 for one small case. In japan strawberries were super very delicious, can’t even get that quality for… I’d sat $8. Not that much more. I live in LA and I see that good quality here in the US cities where good quality food is available, it’s very expensive in the US. There are cheaper products available in the US but all usually very average or not so good products. It all depends on what’s priority. If you like high quality things, Japan is reasonably priced I think than the US. If you want cheap quality things, US is better for that I thinks

There is big Shopping mall in Saitama It’s kind a one stop shop and also the other prefecture has one stop shop You can see lots of one stop shop in Japan except Tokyo 😆
Japanese food culture is all about quality and in the States it’s more about quantity😂 And it’s funny how they talked about the thick toast bread in Japan, I missed it so much when I was in the States

I actually go to different places for grocery shopping (west coast). I buy most produce at farmers markets weekly, supplement some items (non-dairy yogurt, coffee, and a few veggies or fruit, meat) at Raley’s, snacks, non-dairy milk, gluten free pasta, almond butter, dried fruit at Trader Joe’s, other nondairy and gluten free items and certain brands at Co-op (equivalent of Whole Foods), occasionally go to KP, a huge Asian store to get miso, rice noodles, Korean noodles, natto and other Asian stuff.

Hey guys. There are Safeways in DC area, there is NO Safeway in Utah. There were some, but they left Utah about 30+ years ago. I guess Safeway does not go up that far north either. Anyhow He was WRONG.
