Carlo Broschi detto Farinelli (1705-1782) carried the name of his benefactor Farina. Opera singers were "products" of years of artistic training but even more of patronage. Farinelli had a full, bright and even soprano voice, with a range from A to D. As he got older it had increased by the addition of several more low notes, but without loss of any high notes. Many operas were written for him in contralto and soprano range.

He was the superstar of his day. When he sang in London for a season he was paid the modern equivalent of several million pounds.

Although Riccardo Broschi wasn't as great composer at the high level of the masters of his time, his output was of great delight! After hearing and touching some of his partitures, I ask myself what path would be his own after take contact with the greatest roots that preceeded the late Baroque? A period of full sweetness!

L'excellentissime Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, amène "sur un plateau" le soutien à la voix si prenante et virtuose de Vivica Genaux. Je passerai sous silence la présence du très désagréable René Jacobs pour souligner que pour mieux mettre en valeur la voix de son frère, Riccardo Broschi multiplie les effets et les difficultés sans jamais sacrifier à la qualité de la partition. C'est très fort.

Je pense qu'il aurait bien besoin de quelques éjaculations féroces pour s'adoucir un peu et faire en sorte que son mauvais caractère s'apaise un tant soit peu! Il m'a l'air bien engorgé.

Nee, maar ben nu wel erg benieuwd! Ik ben momenteel wel met een boek bezig dat gaat over de mannelijke sopranen. Farinelli wordt ruim belicht, maar ben nog niet aan het Spaanse hof beland. Ik ga zeker uitkijken naar die CD. Bedankt voor de tip!

It's great to hear this rarely performed music, but I wish mordern singers wouldn't continuously try to get away w / BSing us w / "hahahahahahahaha" -- No Matter how fast they "laugh", this is not something Farinelli OR any Baroque Singer would have done & c.b.'s soul-crushing facial-contortions would have embarrassed the Castrasti.

That seems impossible to me. Vivica is a woman with a voice in the mezzo-soprano range. A counter-tenor can only be a male voice.
