The day I had always been dreading. To actually crash a large model aircraft. This is why I mainly fly the 400mm foamies as they are resilient. They gave me the confidence to try to fly too. Last year I got a 1500mm Tasman and have flown that 9 days (over 20 flights, 1.5 hours) but have replaced that for now with this aircraft.
It had its maiden flight yesterday, and all was well. It was windy and again today. The wind caught me out as I made a fast turn (45 mph dive). As I turned the wind blew onto the model and it dived quickly. I had little height, so my fault. I had no gyro operational (experienced mode). This was my 11th large plane flying day with 2 hours flight time. I am still getting used to these larger aircraft. Incidentally I have another 40 hours with the 400mm foamies.
So the repair begun just before 1pm and after 4pm just gone it was done. Fairly neat and all operational. Lucky I had no smashed parts to replace. Used UHU, UHU Por (flexible), Epoxy and Super Glue. Check servo and range after.
Nothing was bent other than the foam.

Yes in fact I gave one aircraft away (FW190) to the guy that saved it as I'm getting too many. 24 aircraft, 7 boats, 3 cars. That's enough for me. Room for two more perhaps lol.

Well done I didn't believe that repair could be successful. Good luck for the next flights.👍 Cheers Andy 🤠

Thank you. Foamies can be easy to repair but it depends if the foam is compressed or not. Sometimes it is easier to buy a replacement part. Most foamies that fly a lot have signs of repair. I was lucky nothing more substantial was damaged.

It was recording full speed dives at 45 mph a second or so before the crash. My own fault as I turned into the wind and it dipped down fast. No gyro either. I was considering painting it up in camouflage colours with the colours following the cracks to hide things. Perhaps some battle damage. Make it Air Force or sci-fi. Still considering.

Nice job. It amazes me how much damage these foamies can take and still be repaired back to flying condition. I believe the AeroScout crash I had two seasons back was even worse than yours. I was going to just strip it for parts but a friend at the club asked that I let him try and repair the model. He did a great job (besides foam repair had to totally refabricate some of the wood parts) and I only had to replace the damaged motor and was back in the air.

Yes I agree it is amazing sometimes what they can take. Thanks for your comment.

Wow. I'm amazed you managed to repair it after the crash. Good job. Hope it still flies as good.

Thanks Matt. It handles fine on the ground and checks out ok. It should do. Most foamies fly after all sorts happening to them. I'll find out soon.

There are so many of these videos on the web all with the same problem, the nose gear. If you are looking for a beginning plane don't buy this one.

Well the nose gear broke only because of the big crash. And to be fair those at my club were amazed it was airworthy again with a three-hour fix. Since then, I've used a filler and made it super good, all with the crashed parts. I find my Tasman is a better beginner plane but this one I rate too and it is much cheaper. This one steers better on the ground with the nose wheel rather than the Tasman tail wheel.
