My Motto's: 1. The bible is the only measuring stick we are to measure our self by 2. Read until He speaks 3. Use scripture to interpret scripture - no scripture is of private interpretation 4. If I don't understand something, I pray for understanding (understanding will come when the time is right) - [It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.] Proverbs 25v2 5. Never go beyond what is written

The 10 points mentioned by Dr. RC Sproul for interpreting the Bible are: 1. Read the Bible like you would read any other book. 2. Remember that the Bible is a product of human culture. 3. Interpret the implicit by the explicit, not the explicit by the implicit. 4. Distinguish between Law and Gospel. 5. Interpret the Bible literally, but not woodenly. 6. Interpret Proverbs as Proverbs, not as Law. 7. Pay attention both to the spirit and the letter. 8. Take very special care with Parables, remembering that The Parables for the most part are not to be interpreted as allegories. 9. Be careful with predictive prophecy. 10. Be responsible interpreters of sacred scripture.

@@indriadrayton1132 you know I never saw it that way. But the movie is really a fight between good and evil. There’s a lot of attributes you could metaphorically link to the Christian walk. I think we must not only read the Bible, but know how to read it. If we do, we won’t neglect certain verses, which we don’t understand. Every verse is important and there is a purpose. I believe, while studying the scriptures, before interpreting a verse, we must give due consideration to the following. 1. Context 2. Cultural habits, historic and social background during Biblical times 3. Apply common sense and use the knowledge of language and grammar to differentiate between literal and figurative statements in the Scripture 4. Apply reasoning and God given wisdom 5. At times, we try to prove our own points wrongly on controversial issues by quoting suitable scattered verses from the Scriptures, like lawyers trying to prove a culprit, not guilty by gathering evidences, ignoring the truth, though they know the facts. At times, we quote a single verse always to prove our point.(I’m sorry to say, most of the charismatics do) I think we need to look for what the Bible as a whole talk on that issue, by studying different Bible Versions, if required.

@@ericday4505 Not according to this. You are here: Home / End Time Bible Prophecy / What Did Ancient Church Fathers Believe About The Rapture? WHAT DID ANCIENT CHURCH FATHERS BELIEVE ABOUT THE RAPTURE? August 2, 2013 By Beginning and End Who invented the Rapture idea? | What did Church fathers say about the Rapture? | John Darby did NOT invent the rapture “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” - 1 Thessalonians 4:17. What did the first century church fathers believe about the Rapture? Were they pre-tribulation or post-tribulation? What did the disciples of the Apostles of Jesus Christ teach about the Rapture? This article will present the writings of the early church fathers - from those who learned under the disciples of Jesus Christ, to the church leaders of the second and third centuries, on the Rapture - the supernatural removal of all Bible-believing Christians from Earth to enter Heaven. While the writings of the first, second and third century Christian church fathers are not Scripture and not on par with the Bible in any way, it is informative to see how the early church leaders interpreted Scripture in addition to what the learned directly from those closest to The Lord Jesus Christ. And definitively, the few writings still in existence on the end times, put the timing of the Rapture before the Great Tribulation. This article will also serve to dispel some of the common misconceptions about Rapture theology as being something invented in the 19th century by a man named John Darby. “John Darby Invented The Pre-Tribulation Rapture” Ancient writings on the Rapture | Pre-tribulation rapture defended John Darby has been incorrectly credited with “inventing” the Rapture. All over the internet there are many articles and videos that claim that the Rapture doctrine was “invented” in 1830 by a man named John Darby. The following is an excerpt that summarizes this theory: “The Rapture doctrine, which was the invention of the Plymouth Brethren led by John Nelson Darby (1800-1882), has today been adopted by most Baptist, Pentecostals, Assemblies of God, and a variety of other fundamentalist sects. The idea that Jesus Christ will return for His true Church just before the beginning of the Great Tribulation in a secret gathering or “catching away” was an important part of Darby’s teaching. The movement in which this teaching began originated in small groups in England and Ireland about 1828 and by 1831 was part of the official teaching of the Plymouth Brethren. By 1860 the “rapture” had made its way to the United States. Today, prophecy pundits and “end-time” revivalists preach the Rapture as if it were established dogma from the time of Christ until the present. The truth is that the first historical reference to the Rapture doctrine comes from the Plymouth Brethren. Not only is the Rapture not found in the teachings of the Church, but even “end-time” heretics throughout the centuries never dreamed of proposing such a novel idea. For example, the 4th century Montanists, who preached both pre-millennialism and that they knew when Christ would return, never ventured so far as to create another 2nd coming of the Lord in a secret rapture. In all the writings of the Scriptures, the Early Fathers, and the Ecumenical Councils, there is no mention of two 2nd comings of Christ.” (source) [Emphasis added]. In short, the objection is that rather than being a real part of the Bible, the entire idea of a pre-Great Tribulational Rapture was just an invention by Darby and “not even heretics” ever used it. This is very strong language, but is it true? Were there no ancient Christian writings about the church being Raptured before Great Tribulation? An examination of early church writings shows that this charge is false and there were some church fathers who indeed wrote about the Rapture. Irenaeus Irenaeus (130 A.D. - 202 AD) was a bishop of the church in Lyons, France. He was an eyewitness to the Apostle John (who wrote the Book of Revelation) and a disciple of Polycarp, the first of the Apostle John’s disciples. Irenaeus is most-known for his five-volume treatise, Against Heresies in which he exposed the false religions and cults of his day along with advice for how to share the Gospel with those were a part of them. In his writings on Bible prophecy, he acknowledged the phrase “a time, times and dividing of times” in Daniel 7 to signify the 3 ½ year reign of the Antichrist as ruler of the world before the Second Coming of Christ. He also believed in a literal Millennial reign of Christ on earth following the Second Coming and the resurrection of the just. On the subject of the Rapture, in Against Heresies 5.29, he wrote: “Those nations however, who did not of themselves raise up their eyes unto heaven, nor returned thanks to their Maker, nor wished to behold the light of truth, but who were like blind mice concealed in the depths of ignorance, the word justly reckons “as waste water from a sink, and as the turning-weight of a balance - in fact, as nothing;”(1) so far useful and serviceable to the just, as stubble conduces towards the growth of the wheat, and its straw, by means of combustion, serves for working gold. And therefore, when in the end the Church shall be suddenly caught up from this, it is said, “There shall be tribulation such as has not been since the beginning, neither shall be.”(2) For this is the last contest of the righteous, in which, when they overcome they are crowned with incorruption.” beginningandend.com/what-did-ancient-church-fathers-believe-about-the-rapture/

I've read a lot of comments by you all. Some have merit, others are mockers, others don't care about anything but themselves and are angry about it and want to take it out on those that believe on the Christ of the whole Bible (read some of them). I firmly believe that only God can provide a proper interpretation of His Scriptures. Where we disagree is not going to make one hill of beans in difference to the meaning God has for us. I am looking forward to seeing Him face to face and behold the wonders of His grace that we cannot see today. Whatever we believe individually or congregationally is moot, will have no effect on God's plans for us, once we agree that Jesus, the Christ, was born of a virgin, grew to be manifest as Christ, was tortured and died a horrible death, bodily rose from the grave (He ate and drank with witnesses to this fact), and now sits at the right hand of God the Father, living to make intercession for us. We know He is coming back for His Church, the Bride of Christ, and is preparing a place for us even now. Everyone who calls upon the Name of the Lord will be saved. Thak you R.C., and Ligonier, for your great teaching.

1. Read the text. The entire text. 2. If it's an epistle, constantly ask yourself: Why would the author have written this statement? (What must be occurring, for the author to have said this?) And what is the author saying? 3. Consider the historical context and the literary context. If it's a synoptic Gospel [Matthew, Mark, or Luke], note the structure [organization], and note the focus of each author, compared to the other two. 3. Note key words, and note the connection to the Old Testament texts. 4. If reading an Old Testament book, remember it pivots on the Babylonian Exile, and everything is before, during, or after the Exile. Remember, idolatry is the number one sin of the Bible -- both Old Testament and New Testament. 5. Remember the theme of the Bible is the joy of the Lord. 6. Remember that numbers and words are symbolic and pregnant with meaning. 7.

For the first time in history we all can interpret the word of God correctly. This was not possible in the past because they did not have Bible computer programs. For them to study, for example, the meaning of the phrase “coming in the clouds of heaven,” they had to know every place the phrase was used. But today we simply type in “coming in the clouds” on our Bible search engine and then go and read every passage where it is used. An example; when you read in first l Thessalonians 4 the phrase “the last trumpet,” you do a search on trumpets in all of scripture, go and read each passage, then you'll see how it is used. I submit that God has included in scripture, an interpretation of all key phrases and words, try it and see.

@prov2.3-5 Жыл бұрын
Reading Matthew 24, one of Jesus’ longest uninterrupted teachings on the subject, really cleared it up for me. I think the pre-trib rapture view/dispensationalism over-complicates and stretches Scripture, plus it is a very new teaching that sprung up in the 1830’s. It is not the historical view that the early church fathers espoused. There is one second coming, one rapture, one wedding, one wedding feast. I get the desire to believe the pre-rapture view. I wanted to believe it, but it’s not what the Bible teaches.

42:50. Sproul is doing what he just condemned in minutes before by reading something into the text. Earlier, he used John 3:16 as an example. He is right, the text does not say "any who has the moral ability to choose Christ.' However, neither does Peter say that God does not will "any of us" should perish. He explicitly says "any." That means God does is not willing any person should perish. Peter does not say "any of us," he says "any."

I'm so thankful that God didn't create anyone just for the sake of sending them to Hell just for His glory! God's love surpasses our understanding! He's so much more loving than we can imagine! We couldn't say that if He created the majority of people to go to Hell. Nor could we say that if He created only a few to go heaven and just chose them randomly and could have just as easily have chosen others instead. God's love is real! It's not just something He chooses to do. Can I get a witness?!!!

Actually, on many occasions in which I was going through difficult times or facing difficult decisions, I just prayed to God and asked him to talk to me through his scriptures. I opened the Bible randomly and put my finger on the page with my eyes closed. I got wonderful messages from God by doing that. For instance, once I didn't know if I had to join the army or not and I asked God what was his opinion. I did what I described above and the verse I got was this one: "But God said to me, 'You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood." (1 Chronicles 28:3). What are the odds of finding such an answer on the first attempt? Zero.

Excellent presentation, particularly @ 36:36 where he step-by-step destroys John 3:16 as a potential proof text many Armenians use to argue God's "desire" to save all people. WRONG. A + B = C, but neither A nor B say anything about X! Check it out.

+Truth Seeker Dear Truth Seeker in Christ. As Dr. Sproul has suggested I would recommend you interpret the implicit from the explicit and not try to lead the reader to anything explicit from what may seem implicit. Defend Arminianism if you like, but try not to violate good Biblical interpretative method in the process. Bring your proof texts that are explicit in over-ruling God's sovereign election and we can have a discussion accordingly (and with all civility from my side). No accusations--just comparisons and considerations. Ready?
@LeonardGarden9 жыл бұрын
+Truth Seeker Refreshing! I don't disagree with your inspiration. Let's all follow Christ. But don't forget 1 Pet. 3:15 that inspires us to always be ready to give an answer to any person who asks us the reason for the hope that is in us. So I never get parched unpacking my theology systematically and according to Scripture. Also, don't forget that mere man though he was, apostle Paul exhorted his saints in 1 Cor 11:1, "Be imitators of me just as I also am of Christ." So in the spirit of your name 'Truth Seeker,' IMHO unless your rigor in interpreting the text exceeds that of some of the best theologians our age has known, reading both Calvin and Arminius is not a bad thing. I even read the Koran out of love that I may explain the error of Islam to those who are lost in it. Again, apostle Paul is instructive: 1Cor 9:19-23 "For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all that I might win more of them. To the Jews I became as a Jew in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law... To the weak I became weak that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some."

+Truth Seeker Oh beloved Truth Seeker, why not use words that are helpful in building up? God in his sovereignty and omniscience can certainly elect with perfection. The Bible says that none seek God--not one. I note the grace I received to find faith in Christ and tremble, giving Him glory knowing that all shall not receive the gift. Did Judas believe? Did Hitler? Note God's purpose in Isaiah 10:5-19: He uses Assyria to punish Israel, then destroys them because they believed victory was of their own strength. Even you a Truth Seeker today--Do you believe your faith comes from your own strength? I rejoice in the doctrine of election because I know my faith does not depend upon my corrupt self. Thinking otherwise would indeed be arrogant. I rejoice that I received a gift of salvation I did not merit (Ephesians 2:8,9) So how could anyone who understands election so described even pretend to boast, except in the Lord?
@LeonardGarden9 жыл бұрын
+Truth Seeker. I suspect that by now we've swerved a bit from the topic: How to study the Bible and I would like to remain constructive so-- May God's grace cover your point of view and mine, and that of Dr. Sproul, being the judge of us all when He returns--
