Pumpkin is great for a ton of animals. Even betterr are those decorative gooseneck gourds. If you drry them out after fall is over, come spring, the outer rind is as hard as wood. A cheap drill bit at the hardware store can easily cut through it, allowing you to pull the small bounty of seeds and remaining petrified pulp out for the birds. You can then hang the hollow gourd out in trees to encourage birds to nest in your area. you can also paint them to increase longevity.

The stolen food for meals reminded me of a post I saw floating around last Christmas, though I don't know if the story is true: Whole Foods (owned by Bezos and raking in tons of money) had food collection boxes at the front of the store, so that customers could buy groceries for people in need. This guy would go into Whole Foods, pick up armfulls of groceries and put them in the boxes without paying so he wasn't 'stealing'. It' isn't likely that the staff would go and start pulling food out of the donation boxes. It's genius in its simplicity.
@totoro-chan77007 ай бұрын
That's actually a better practice for large retail businesses I think. I work in retail and watch expired packaged food (still in edible condition, just the dates are expired) get destroyed everyday. It hurts my heart knowing they could have gone to people who needed them, and also understanding that if the companies didn't do that they could have got themselves into a lot of troubles with lawsuits and food safety speculation. I always want to look for and learn more about how to reduce such waste of food. So if the story you say about whole foods was true it'd be another wholesome method to learn and apply ❤

Thinking about that last video with the dog freeing the other dog - we adopted a little dog who ran all over our neighborhood. We had taken him back home several times, but we would see him out again in just a few hours. Eventually, the family who owned the dog asked if we wanted him. We were thrilled to get him. He was so smart and so caring. Numerous times before we adopted him, he found dogs running loose in our neighborhood and guided them to my house because he knew I would make sure they got back home. I'm sure he saved many of these dogs' lives and relieved many of their sad, worried families.

As retail employee I actually refuse to go to stores during Black Friday since like you said it's a scam to trick people in mass buying. A lot of companies have changed the format from Black Friday to Black Friday WEEK now just to squeeze as much as they can out of people as they can at the start of the holiday shopping season. If you are looking for a deal your best bet around that time of the year is Cyber Monday since you shop online and don't stampede stores for no reason and you get the same discounts you would have on Black Friday if it's a real sales price and not a "Special Black Friday Price" (that isn't really much of a sale since those are usually the new MSRP to be set in the New Year to clear out the product on that line). My coworkers and I always laugh because the company I work for sends the Black Friday Week flyers to us along with the flyer for the following 2 weeks after the Black Friday sales are over and A LOT of Black Friday Sales prices are the same as the "Special Holiday Prices" that will last at our store until the New Year... and they are not a limited stock like the Black Friday deals are (like we aren't told after we sell out the skid not to restock it the rest of the Holiday Shopping season like we are during Black Friday week since the company wants to create the illusion of scarcity and limited supply during the panic that is Black Friday shopping and hope people who are there already will be easy to upsell a non-sale price items instead of the special priced item everyone wanted). One of the strangest items I've seen at our store on Black Friday Week was mattresses (I work in a hardware store) the flyer showed them off like "Regular Price: $1500 Black Friday Sales Price: $500 SAVE $1000!" but we had never carried mattresses before then... or since then, and even though the allotted number of Black Friday deal mattresses where sold before the term of the sale was finished; the following week we got more and they were still $500 and they stayed at $500 until they all sold over the next 6 months, then we never saw them again. It's the same thing when we get non-stock related electronics for the Black Friday Sale they will be in the ad as being something like 75% off the "regular price" but if they do not sell out for the Black Friday Sale they will just stay at the "special price" until they are all gone and we will never carry them again, they do this with things like off brand smart watches, tablets, and bunch of small kitchen appliances we never carry as regular stock.

@@nova14414 I'd say that is fair, and my guess is you probably go to stores that are worth going to on Black Friday... Not like my customers... like I said we are a hardware store; the only things that we get that have special Black Friday sales and items we specifically only carry for Black Friday and maybe some of the lower end power and hand tools. We get swamped by people that stampede in to get there right away and get the best items and it doesn't make any sense at all. But yeah these people come in seriously thinking we will have stuff like lumber and building materials on sale because "it's black friday" and they don't get black friday isn't like Presidents Day or Victoria Day where stores do big sales on everything since it's a long weekend and they want people to buy like mad for BBQs and DIY projects they have been putting off and that Black Friday is about getting a start on Christmas shopping and Hardware stores only carry a very limited number of items that make good gifts.

I live in a small/big town (population fluctuates, tourist town, and it's the place for a lot of smaller communities to come for various things, including school) and I'm low-key impressed at our lack of homelessness. Most homelessness lasts less than a year, and ends because someone offers a spare room. If you see someone sleeping in the park, they're more likely to be a drunk who couldn't get a ride home than a homeless person. I will admit I've noticed an uptake in hostile architecture since the pandemic... the worst being this really great spot to sit and wait for the bus got this weird railing that makes it hard to sit on now. Because too many drunks were sleeping on it, apparently. I've contemplated taking a tool to it multiple times because that railing means you either stand, sit on sharp rocks, or on the ground while waiting for the bus...

Don’t get me wrong I still disagree with stealing, even from major corporations, as it leads to higher prices in general and stores moving out of areas, etc but let’s not pretend the minimum wage workers were going to receive bonuses or higher pay if theft stopped.

It sort of makes sense. Negativity gets more views than positive ones, so propaganda and hatred will spread against everyone. I've got family on Facebook who frequently post supremacist content, but it's not considered hate speech because it supports minorities. People like these give everyone else a bad name. If all they're hearing all day, every day, is insults based on who he is, why would this new thing be any different. Just to be clear, I'm saying that it was a good thing to do, and I'm not saying "all neurodivergent people are scum" (far from it). I just saying that I understand why he might have snapped.

I live in Oklahoma City and the local shelter just put out a post on FB that was about the site being overpopulated, they were almost double their capacity, no less than a day later people flooded into the place adopting/signing up for fostering pets in mass amounts. They almost completely emptied the shelter and all those pets got to homes :)

I remember a post during the Pokemon Go craze. A dog shelter put out a sign saying something like “want to play Pokemon Go but dont want to get weird looks. Take one of our dogs for a walk.” The people who came through ended up adopting the dog they walked.

This subreddit is full of people who are human shitposts in the best way, they find weird and creative ways to accomplish tasks and just exist. 16:41 oh, yeah, john oliver is the definition of chaotic good. things he's done on his show include but are not limited to: - blackmailing congress to improve online security laws (specifically regarding the use of cookies) by threatening to reveal information about them that he found out through that same system. - making an extravagent and elaborate (and amazing) musical number, just to tell bob murray to eat shit. - running actual ads on fox news, targeted at donald trump. - having billions of raisins fall out of the ceiling as a metaphor. there's so many more elaborate jokes and gags and also genuinely good but weird things he's done over the years, i highly suggest looking into some of it.

Oh dear God no, no, no. There absolutely are penalties for filing false claims in Texas. At a minimum you are on the hook for their attorneys fees and costs. If you use a lawyer they can be sanctioned by the judge. If you represent yourself you can be declared a vexatious litigant. If you somehow escape all that you still loose all the court fees, you have to hire a process server to get the whole thing started, and then there is the expense of going to Texas to appear in court. You can bet your ass you will suffer consiquences for failure to appear. Do not take legal advice from Twitter.

A chaotic good story I heard of my grandpa: At a coffee shop, (long before I was born) my Grandpa and Grandma (for reference they were around 30 at the time) were at a Coffee shop. The service was taking slow, and he hadn’t gotten his coffee yet. So what dose he do? He gets up, goes behind the counter, and pours it for himself. He then goes around and pours coffee for everyone else. Grandma was very embarrassed from what I heard, and the staff weren’t too happy. Though I’d argue Grandpa just made their jobs a bit easier. They didn’t throw them out at all, guess they weren’t too keen on losing customers. I wish I could have met you Edward.

Late to the thread but I grew up in a small prairie town. Spent way too many hours enjoying restaurants that still had bottomless coffee. We always tried to serve ourselves instead of making the staff come pour our coffee. We also tried to be polite and not make a mess. It as assumed that keeping the servers happy meant they wouldn’t complain and stop us hanging out. On at least one day we had people coming in and out between classes, I think we had a table for 6 hours straight. Must have worked a little bit. Those restaurants probably kept us all out of trouble too since we didn’t wander town looking for excitement or someplace to hang out.

Worked Black Friday one year. Thankfully my store had waist high boxes around some of the registers. My wonderful manager was nice enough to honor my request to have one of those. Anytime anyone crossed over my barrier I threatened to call security and loudly said, "YOU'RE BEHAVIOR IS HOLDING UP THE LINE!" Within seconds everyone behind them would turn on them and their behavior fell in line. It was glorious. Edit: of course I only did it to atrocious customers.
