In the first syllable, the letter 'c' is not pronounced after the letter 's', the 'ie' combination of letters is pronounced as the diphthong /aɪ/. It seemed to me that /ɔr/ is in open variety for /ɔːr/ or are they interchangeable? As for (10:11) /ɝ/ and /ɛr/ evokes dogs or bears (?) growling.

+mauro carvalho , it's basically the same phoneme, the difference is in the notation. The /ː/ indicates the long vowel which is relevant for the British English, but not for American. For American English, the tenseness is more important since the same vowel can be long or short depending on the following consonant (it's the Vowel Length rule: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3ezk3-Ziqill7M).

In English, letters don't always correspond to sounds directly. As far as the combination of letters 'or' is concerned, it can be pronounced in several ways: /ɔr/ as in ""for"" /ɝ/ as in ""work"" - typically after 'w' /ɝ/ as in ""attorney"" /ɚ/ as in ""doctor"" - in unstressed syllables Unfortunately, there's no rule, but that's how this works. It's best to memorize the pronunciation of words when you practice them.

This R-Colored vowel sound is challenging for many people. The reason is that the /ɔ/ sound is made with your tongue placed very low in your mouth and pulled far back whereas the /r/ consonant is made with the tip of your tongue raised high (to the alveolar ridge). So you have to make a significant change in the tongue position. Try to practice it like this: pronounce the /ɔ/ sound, pause, and then pronounce the /r/. At first, don't try to connect them and don't try to pronounce them quickly. Keep practicing until you feel that you can decrease the pauses between the /ɔ/ and the /r/ and pronounce them faster. Next, try to connect the /ɔ/ to the /r/, but do it slowly, by prolonging these sounds (/ɔ-ɔ-ɔ - r-r-r/). Your goal is to make a connection between these sounds and actually feel how your tongue moves from the position of the /ɔ/ sound to the /r/. Once you get this feeling, you'll be able to connect these two sounds into the /ɔr/ vowel :). Hope it helps, do let us know if you have any questions. And please, keep us posted on your progress!

Sorry, but this vowel is no longer pronounced in Western American and Canadian English, on account of the cot/caught merger. Effectively, there are no "r-colored" vowels in American Standard English, but rather, vowels followed by r's. "Orange," in Oregon, is pronounced as "ornj."
