I bought an 8 foot piece of "cat tarp" to do something like, need to sew loops in the ends for hammock use, or to give more rigid set up than poachers bed. I use one taller tripod, and but the other end of my long side poles into a bank,or up hill of my tripod. Cat tarp comes in 2 widths, but it is expensive. It does come with lots of grommets on the edges, and the edges are pre -sewn, well reinforced and waterproofed. Love your videos, I learn lots from them.

I just started watching dual survival again, and found out that you do videos online and decided to check them out today, and I love your videos. They are so long and informational. Which is really needed in online survival videos, most of them or short and quick and don't go into full explanation of anything. So I thank you so much for that. I will continue watching.

Dave, great idea. I actually bought an old army cot bottom on eBay for $5.00 that I use the same way. The frame was damaged so I just pack the fabric and use a pole at the foot and head to stretch between two trees like a hammock. (I like the frame method you did on this video). I have also inserted a pole on either side and used an old log at the head and foot like you referenced with Kepphart. Your cot is a lot wider than the army cot. Great videos keep the lessons / ideas coming.

I think you have a good product here Dave, especially for some of us bigger guys that want a hammock that is going to hold us. I'm 235 lbs and even though I can use most hammocks, this one is defiantly strong enough to last. I don't have the money to buy most of the products you test and demonstrate on here, but it gives me ideas on how to improvise something else to get the same results. Thanks for looking out for us common folk buddy, god bless and take care.

Another option would be to have it offset so a 4' and a 3.5' or even a 4.5' and a 3.5' or 4' section for a total width of 7', 8' or 8.5' width and as someone else stated go 7.5' or 8' length. Dave thank you for what you do.

Thanks for the video Dave, I noticed at the end you showed the blanket rolled inside the canvas, but you could see the blanket. I'm sure it was on purpose for displaying only, but if you laid it all out flat, flipped the long sides over the blanket and then rolled it, the blanket would be completely protected by the canvas then. As it is in the video, there's a chance the blanket could get wet or dirty. Love this idea and plan on seeing if I can find a military stretcher to use.

Dave, I'm 6'4" and 260 lbs, I like the product just wondering if 7' length is long enough, for me I would like to see 7'6", In addition if you do roll this product out, a good wool blanket to go with it might be an option.

Hey Dave, just a quick observation on the hammock setup. If there were a few grommet holes on either side you could run ropes through them and stake them to the ground to tighten the hammock sideways. Or, you could run a second piece of rope through each channel and stake it to the ground to widen the canvas to make it more comfortable.

Dave, make a few grommet holes at the ends near the sleeves. That way you have some options to 'stretch' that thing out when you need to. Also, make a small sleeve at each end (perpendicular to the big sleeves you have already), so you can feed rope through there and make a gathered end hammock? Also nice for options as cargo 'net' etc. I made a tarp/hammock/poncho thing myself. I didn't work out very well (fabric too weak) but I learned a ton of stuff. Excellent stuff, thanx!

I have an old canvas cot that the wood frame broke apart years ago and I have used for years as a kid with two poles but never with a tripod like that, great idea. The canvas I have has an opening in the sleeves about one third and two thirds of the way in, originally for the hinges to fold up the cot, but I can use those to make a type of chair configuration too as well as when in hammock mode I put a spreader in one of them ( about where my elbows are) to give my upper body more room. Hi Dave, Great consept! I would like this if it had three sleves for the poles. That would be more versatile I feel. One pole on each side, and one in the middle. That way you could fold it on itself making a stronger bed, and you would have a top, and 2 sides to make a pitch roof with it as well. The canvas would be pretty heavy this way, but maybe a lighter water proof material would work. A rip stop tarp might work. Another great couple of videos, thanks again.

Hey Dave, I love trying new sleeping ideas cant believe I've never thought of this. awesome design. just a idea maybe a some sort of strong Mylar sewed onto one side of it may help with your warmth as a raised bed and as a shelter? But maybe that will make it to expensive? you prob already thought of that. At any rate I wouldn't be complaining if I had one to sleep on or under. Thanks Dave for what you do and your hard ass matter of fact way you do it.

Thanks for sharing Dave. Keep the width as is. It's no problem to roll it up if the user wants it more narrow, but the extra width is important in the lean-to scenario. Maybe grommets on the corners would make configuring the hammock a little easier and will increase the possibilities.

I am smaller than Dave...but I turn over one way and another in the night. I believe the Kephardt dimensions would be best for me. I also learned from Dave's heavy mil garbage bag tube bed: I prefer canvas as being breathable. The full-on bushcraft raised bed from logs and saplings takes a lot of wood and a lot of sawing. These ideas save both.

I love this concept!!!! I think you may want to actually make it a bit wider to give the user more options as a shelter, the extra material could easily be rolled over the poles. That brings up another point, in the video the canvas is rolled under the pole, I think it would probably be more comfortable to have it rolled over the pole as it enters the bed area. Another benefit of the extra material would be added strength and durability of seems and padding the poles for extra comfort.

awesome, i want one!! lol im a big boy, whats the weight limit on the canvas? only thing id add is maybe corner grommets but id could also live with out them, with the raised bed and tripods you could drape a tarp over the side for a raised bed pup tent style. again cool piece of gear. John

Small Imporvement (to me anyway) would be to make your side pockets with a "U" cut in the center basically making 2 separate pockets on each side allowing the inclusion of a 3rd tie out when used as a shelter by running either a full length pole through the pockets or just a short one between the 2 pockets. This would also allow for a set up as a modified "pup" tent set up type shelter.

Great video! Much more versatile than carrying a plastic tarp, so that is good. I agree that it should be longer, as I am 6'7", and as far as the width, perhaps leave it as wide as it is, but just ask them to sew in another sleeve inboard of the one that is there, so you have 2 different width options.

Dave, I have a suggestion be nice if there were heavy duty canvas loops on the outside of those sleeves. You could adjust the width easy by rolling up one side and then putting one leg of your tripod through the loop to secure it, you could also use loops when using it as a tarp. God bless, Dave!

Dave i think 3 set of heavy eyelets on each of the sleaves. i.e. top and bottom as to not close the tube would be awesome also a smaler sleave at each end with the aforementioned eyelets that could accomodate a speader stick to facilitate an easier setup as a hammock or to provide a greater degree of setup options

That"s cool man! Did you think about just running some HD grommets down two opposite sides of a 7x7 canvas sheet? You could weave some cordage through them to make a tube, tube could be used for the raised bed. Take the cord out and you've got a 7x7 tarp. Could probably hang it like a hammock also (might be a bit too long). Thanks for all the awesome videos. Best wishes!
