1st Dude your content is very very good. 2nd this thing is to good to be true? I got really frustrated with a zoom podcast P4 because the headphone jacks were so noisy and the preamps seemed so loud I couldn’t even use it. Is this rode REALLY as clean as Rode says? I have a focusrite scarlet solo and cloudlifter to sm7b with audio technica headphones and it’s crystal clear. This thing could match that you think?
@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
Hi David, first, thank you, I‘m glad you enjoy the content. This console indeed seems too good to be true - the preamps (both the mic/line inputs and the headphones) should be as clean as those from Focusrite, if not cleaner. I‘d suggest to watch Tom Buck‘s videos too, he‘s testing the preamp noise as well hands-on, there you can maybe judge it.

I'm working in a radio station. This unit could replace expensive audio mixers if only it had a line out! Why can't Rode put one like the one on Tascam mix 4? Hope to see it on next generations. Also missing, an "on air lamp" lighting when microphones are turned on. Thank you for the video
@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
Hi, good news, it does have line outs (the monitor outs can be switched to line out). There‘s no „on air lamp“ indeed, but the record button lights red when recording. Not when the mics are turned on though, so it‘s not the same functionality. In my 2022 prediction video I was wishing for one too, and now that it has bluetooth output, Røde will maybe make an accessory down the line that does it. Fingers crossed.
@Tonton_Charles2 жыл бұрын
Yes the monitors can be turned into line outs, but in radio, both monitors and line out are needed! Line out for feeding external audio equipment like processors and transmitters. This unit is made for podcasters and streamers, but by adding this little thing, I'm sure thousands of small fm radio stations could use this mixer. Hope Rode is hearing... 😊
@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
@@Tonton_Charles maybe a naive idea (I have no experience in radio production), but couldn‘t you use the monitor outs for line output and 2 headphone outs for the monitors? Compromise for sure, not even sure it’s possible and definately you’d lose those headphone ports for people in the room, but could that work? Btw, I have tagged Røde in the description, maybe they‘ll see your comment too. :)

@clemradio2 жыл бұрын
@@Tonton_Charles yeah, I mean there is a bunch of adapters for doubling outputs. For the mic on-air led or the on-air panel, you can connect the mixer to a computer and set that when a channel gets an amount of dB, the mixer send a midi command to the computer, which can then power on a USB led. I’m sure it’s doable. You just have to realize RØDE doesn’t put radio producers in priority.

I hate that the front headphone jack was taken away! How do I monitor the master audio if I have 4 other people with headphones plugged into the back????
@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
I understand the frustration about it as while you still have a few options for monitoring the master audio, if you are not the one plugged into headphone 1, you’d not be able to make use of the “listen” buttons and the talkback/back channel function, however: 1. You can use a mini headphone amp, like the 20-25$ Behringer HA400 or the Mackie HM4 or the Zoom ZHA-4 (these cost a bit more) to split the headphone 1 output and then problem is solved (albeit at some extra cost) 2. If you don’t need to be connected to headphone 1 for the aforementioned functions, there are still the main monitor outputs, which you can route to a separate room to speakers - that is if you are working in a producer mode, meaning you don’t participate in the conversation. (Separate room to avoid feedback into the mics) The “listen” and talkback/back channel functions won’t work for you though. 3. If it’s not the case and you do want to use headphones, currently you could route the main monitor outputs into a 25$ Behringer Micromix MX400 and plug your headphones in the output of it - dowside is that you again lose the “listen” and talkback/back channel functions 4. If you have any of the remote guest channels free (USB Main, USB Main Chat, USB Secondary, Bluetooth), you can use those to output the main mix (eventually with mix-minus, but that’s OK) and monitor through them - also losing the listen and talkback functions though.

@@PodcastMeister Thank you for this as it all makes perfect sense. I appreciate you breaking this down for me. Even still, I believe this is the only MAJOR hardware design flaw of the RCP2. I'd be very interested to know if they added relay muting to the headphone monitor outputs. I have the og RCP and its extremely annoying that when the unit is powered down it sends a loud audio pop thru to the headphone monitors. This can potentially damage/destroy your cans. I'm currently using a mixer and mute the mic direct monitor input before powering down the RCP as a work around. Relay muting should have been standard on the og version but the fact that it wasn't makes me wonder if they over looked this again.

QUESTION I have been hearing people having issues with latency on the headphone monitoring while filming live. We are starting a podcast, and the idea is for this one device to solve all our problems. I was thinking of actually getting Rodecaster Pro 1 instead because, from looking at it online, it seems bugless and without the latency issue and it is also 200euros cheaper than the Rodecaster Pro 2. For that difference we can get 2 dope mics for the setup. So what do you say? Is the latency issue fixed with the 2. And if not, would you recommend the Pro 1 in our case (where money is also a factor) or is it just too outdated for the Pro 2. We were also looking at the Zoom Podtrak P8 since it's also cheaper than Pro 1 here but people have been comparing it with Pro 2 and it also provides 6 channels for bigger panels. What would you say Meister, we need help deciding? :D
@PodcastMeister10 ай бұрын
As for the latency, it never disturbed me (did not even noticed) but check out Curtis Judd’s channel, he has measured it (if I can recall right it’s 5 or 6 miliseconds). The Podtrak P8 is OK, and if you don’t need the submixes, or the advanced digital signal processing (you’ll have some in the P8 as well), it could be a good choice, but beware, the Zoom P8 can only record 44Khz/16bit, which is a deal breaker for some, and also, it cannot do USB-Multi-Track recording into a DAW. Check out the RodeCaster Duo though, that might be the sweet spot.
@stefantrisic-produktivnost296310 ай бұрын
Thank you for the reply! We went for the P8 because it's the only podcasting solution with 6 XLR inputs. And it's also 100euros cheaper than RodeCaster Duo, 200euros cheaper than RodeCaster Pro 2 and similar price than RodeCaster Pro 1. As for the 44kHz thing, after some research I realized it's not a big issue. When it records directly into camera it actually records as video - 48kHz and if needed, resampling is not that big of a problem. That's what I figured out from researching. When I play around with it more, I'll see :D

The most important thing to me is if it can rout like the goxlr with game browser source music etc. does it have those options yet ?
@PodcastMeister9 ай бұрын
There are 2 ways you can do it. 1. On the RCP2/Duo you have 3 USB channels: the Main, the Chat (these are both on USB1) and the Secondary (USB2). You can plug both USB ports into the same computer, which means that if your apps allow it, you can assign these 3 USB channels to 3 different apps (on Windows it‘s easy, on Mac you may not be able to). 2. Alternatively, you can run Unify on your computer, assign different USB channels like game, browser, music, etc (up to 6) to different apps and the select RCP2 or Duo as the monitor output and then you will have all these routed into the console as a single input (but you can regulate them individually in Unify).

@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks! Røde has recently updated the user guide on their website and I think the section you are looking for is „Connecting Callers and Online Guests“ (I know it does not sound like the right chapter, but it actually describes the USB connections) On the PC connected via USB 1 you either need to select „Rødecaster Pro II Main“ as the audio input/output or if you want mix-minus for ie discord, then „Rødecaster Pro II Chat“. On the second PC, connected via USB 2 you should set „Rødecaster Pro II Secondary“ as the audio input/output and then the mic will be outputted to both PC’s. If you want mix-minus on USB 2, you’ll have to switch it on in the USB2 channel settings. Submixes, where you can exclude certain channels from certain outputs are to my knowledge not yet possible in the first firmware, but I‘m assuming it is/will be a widely requested feature which Røde will be working on to add down the line.

@PodcastMeister2 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thank you for the kind words! It is possible to connect both the laptop and the mobile phone to the RødeCaster Pro II: you should predominantly use USB 1 port for your laptop and - especially if you have an iPhone- USB2 for the mobile phone. Then you would set the USB2 to “Mix-Minus” i stead of leaving it on “Main Mix” and then if you launch the Clubhouse app on your phone, the input/output of the phone - so consequently the input/output of the Clubhouse app - will be the Rødecaster Pro II. Make sure you are using the genuine Apple-made USB-C to lightning dongle, otherwise chances are high that it wouldn’t work.
