Right? Imagine if OP had come home to that. It's amazing that with the 1 night outside she didn't suffer negative effects. OP's parents probably should have taken her to the hospital for a check over and made sure the police & CPS were alerted. It's terrifying how neglectful her mother was and that she is still blaming OP over it. The little girl might be too young to really remember it, but there will no doubt be an internalised fear of abandonment that she won't necessarily know the origins of. It's amazing she survived, and OP's parents coming by did likely save her life because 3 days without fluids for a baby that small...that would most likely have resulted in death or severe brain damage. And that isn't even accounting for the possibility of wildlife, or exposure/heat stroke (depending on the weather/area, could even be both), etc. My heart breaks at what she must have gone through even in just that amount of time. If she has done that this time, she has likely left her home alone before...or will in the future.

20:26 The worst part about this story is while everyone knows that this is obviously awful for the child- Using an _actual child_ as a way to treat her psychological problem is _so unethical and will cause her further harm._ People with these delusions are typically given _dolls_ to regulate themselves, that’s what he needs to give her, not a _real child._

That post was the set up of a horror movie. The child growing up and finding out they were kidnapped from their original family, because their "mother" lost her own kid and couldn't live with that reality. Not to mention it makes me think of animals in the wild like lions who will kidnap children that aren't their own. Humans really are still just animals aren't we?

Though in this case, this lady is literally looking at a 6 year old that looks nothing like the other child and is still "seeing" her child. Yep, my parents think they can dictate what medical procedures I get "because we are your parents". Yeah, shocked Pikachu face when they tried calling one of my doctor's and the office wouldn't even say I was a patient. They threw a fit and tried to pull the "but it's my insurance" line (I was on their insurance when they tried this), but got nothing. So they called me up and demanded I sign the forms that let them talk to my doctor's. Yeah, no. So when I had my hysterectomy (for medical reasons no less, the gender reasons were just a bonus) I just told the hospital the only person who should be let in to see me is my partner who is currently holding my hand, otherwise don't even say I'm a patient.

@@AmieMorley-st6tz I was mid 20s, and it took 4 doctors, seven years of searching, and two traumatic experiences resulting in PTSD. Sadly that makes me lucky. Oh, and I'm trans, so that should've made some things a bit easier to convince doctors on, but alas, no. My only suggestion (since odds are you live nowhere near me so my doctor probably wouldn't work) would be to look for queer friendly doctors (even if you aren't queer yourself), because they tend to be less likely to be shitty about it. Feel free to ask any other questions you have (well aside from the trauma parts obviously). The extra sad bit is I had medical reasons to need one. My blood counts were frequently 1% above blood transfusion levels, and my cramps were so bad I passed out and the only things that could touch it were narcotics. Recovery was about as painful as an average period for me for the first 1-2 days, and then a mild period after that. Even walking my surgical site into a table less than 24 hours out was just like "Well that was highly unpleasant". I actually had a kick a nurse out of my room at a post-op appointment because she started a freaking argument with me when she said "Recover is like a really really bad period" and I was like "No, it's like a mild period for me". And she had the audacity to "correct" me (in the same tone of voice you use for a toddler trying to eat the sidewalk, and I'm pretty sure she was younger than me) that *"Surgery* is more painful than *periods".* Like it should be, but wasn't for me.

On the story with Jeff: there's updates and one as recent as yesterday. Jeff hired a priest and sent them to OP's work, claiming Jeff was a "Godly man" and that op was not fit to raise the daughter. Op said that the daughter was safe and her personal affairs are none of his business and asked him to leave. Priest said he'd come back when she's not hysterical. OP told the secretary he's not allowed back there. OP did talk to the bishop and said they wouldn't bother her again and was apologetic. The story gets worse and pretty sad, but does have some good news. Jeff dropped the case. OP and her lawyer checked to make sure it wasn't a legal trap, and thankfully it wasn't. Both sides agreed. Her daughter is safe and the godparents help in taking the daughter to and from school, and OP is looking to move closer to the godparents and found a spot. By chance she ran into the wife's parents and they asked to talk. She hesitated but agreed to buy them a coffee. The in-laws apologize and said Jeff lied and convinced them that OP would agree to that arrangement. Jeff lied about A LOT, saying he was godly, and that he asked OP to marry but that she refused and was only after his money. It was obviously not true and OP stated in the past a lot that she never wanted to get married or want his money so that lie whent no where. The in-laws then said their daughter passed away, and that it was self-inflicted. The poor woman clearly needed help, but instead of that, Jeff tried to use OP's kid to pretend like nothing happened. The worst part was Jeff who lied about how the the baby passed on. The baby was colic, which means they cry nonstop, and Jeff shook the baby, which was the actual cause. Its so messed up. The conversation with the in-laws went well and they gave OP a picture of the baby to have, that she stated she'd save to tell her daughter about her half-sister, and even visit them at the cemetary when things calm down. OP relayed that information to her lawyer, who scolded her for doing it alone, but understood why. People are probably wondering why Jeff wouldn't be charged with murder, but OP said that where they're from, if you have enough money, a bribery goes a long way and its very likely he got away with it. The good part to this sad story is that Jeff has no legal ties to OP and her daughter, they have a temporary restraining order and will be going lengths to protect her daughter. She hopes nothing else will happen and her daughter is happy, doing well, and well supported by her awesome mama and godparents. I hope karma makes Jeff's life a living hell. Edit: fixed spelling and grammar

My uncle and aunt lost their three children in an accident he at least seemed somewhat responsible for. My aunt and uncle were psychologically broken beyond recovery. Afterwards they tried to kind of dote on nieces and nephews, working themselves up as some kind of second place parents. It was covertly invasive. The complete extended family started to revolve around their loss. My mom always protected us against this and warned her brothers and sisters and she got a fair amount of strict retorts. Then when we all started to reach the age their children died at, they cut all contact with their 'children' and even expected family get togethers to be solely without nieces and cousins. It kind of blew up the whole family. It is really awful what some people have to live through and they do deserve support and understanding, but be careful not to become collaterally damaged in the process. Broken people can become dangerous themselves.

According to other comments I saw, not only did the wife kill herself, but the husband was (allegedly) the reason the kid died. He shook her to death and blamed it on SIDS. He also lied to the mother's family about him being "godly" and proposing to OP when he found out she was pregnant, and basically convinced them his plan would work. He also sent a priest to OP's workplace to tell her Jeff is a "godly man" and she's not fit to raise the kid. Basically he got a woman pregnant and didn't want anything to do with the baby or the mother. Then, he gets a wife and kid, and kills the baby, lies about it, and instead of getting his grieving and mentally unstable wife help, he tries to take his other kid from her mom to use as a therapy doll. When the original mother refuses, he tries to take legal action to take the kid away from her mother fully, despite admitting he doesn't actually care about the kid. His wife still isn't getting help in the meantime and kills herself.

The story with 'Katie/Gabrielle', my heart breaks for the other wife. Not only did the husband hide having a child with someone else (even if he's not at all involved in the life, that's still a Pretty Big Secret to Keep), but then after a tragedy and clearly without getting other sufficient psychological help or support, he decides on a wild scheme that can only lead to more psychological trauma for her down the line at some point, and does so without even consulting the writer of the post, leading to an immediate situation of 'her baby' being taken away from her again. I can't fathom how that man convinced his parents (post says 'her in-laws') to go ALONG with that.

@@FunkyLittlePoptart I do respect life. I used the term "products" to include plantlife. Additionally, animals, such as reptiles and inverts are products to businesses that sell them. Note that selling and adopting are different terms. Adopting is one owner to another. Selling is a transfer of ownership from a business or entity larger than an individual to an individual. Usually, in adoption, both owners care for the animal. In sales, it's usually only the recipient that genuinely cares about the individual animal. In short, "product" was the appropriate term as it includes not just animals but plants (and other non-animal beings, such as fungus and bacterium), as most owners and adoption sites don't send via mail or standard package delivery. At least, not that I've seen.

Now I didn't want to talk to them because they would use me asking for help against me, or shame me for stuff that was done to me because "You shouldn't have done that". Like a classmate stealing from me, apparently I was just supposed to tell them "No" and they would stop, and because they didn't stop it meant it was my fault for not being assertive. Like uh, why is this the 6 year olds problem, not the adults who are supposed to be in charge? Like I asked for help with a stealing classmate and their response was basically "You're a loser because you haven't already stopped them". So I was suspicious and hid it where I knew it would be found, but couldn't be accidentally moved, taking careful note exactly how I placed it. Not even a couple days later it had moved. They tried to put it back exactly, but not well enough. I never used it and it was confirmed a few months later when they asked me why I never wrote in my diary. Like you mean the diary you promised to never look in? That diary?

the first story - a small child could die of dehydration within a few days, not to mention they can't moderate their body temperature as well as an adult, due to their small body mass. plus all of that, sitting in your own excrement for days can cause skin breakdown, leading to infection up to and including sepsis, which has a very high mortality rate. the cousin should lose custody and go to jail. what a horrible person! and blaming op? wtaf? what would have happened if the grandparents hadn't come that day and the child sat until monday? and the neglect is so obvious - when they didn't hear back from OP after an hour....two....five...? wouldn't you follow up..?

Dropping a child off at a place with no prior arrangement for childcare is classified as abandonment in the US. Like CPS is not joking even slightly. I once listened to my manager threaten to call CPS on a lady who was 2 hrs late to pick up her kid with no excuse. What that cousin did was abandonment, straight up and is the reason that law exists.

Like for fucks sake buy your child another pair of shoes. I understand that squeaky shoes have a purpose - making sure you can hear the child if they wander off so they don't get lost. But there's no need for that at a wedding, or in any place that needs silence, or anywhere like that. Either get another pair of shoes or if for any reason you can't just make sure your kid doesn't run around interrupting. Or take them off if it's indoors as long as it's safe.

But yep, Pluto IS a planet, because size doesn't make a planet: direct orbit round a sun does. And Pluto has a direct orbit, not a weird way-off-centre one like Halley's Comet.
@feuerling
@feuerling 5 ай бұрын
@@elaineb7065 "direct orbit" just means that an object doesn't orbit a planet or moon, which makes it a moon or a moon-moon (yes, Moon-Moon is real.) Comets also have direct orbits. The qualifiers of a planet are 1. Orbiting a star directly 3. Big enough to have a round shape 3. Dominating its orbit (concentrating most of the mass in its orbit in itself and any moons) Well, Pluto is part of the Kuiper belt, meaning his orbital region contains several other dwarf planets and a lot of space rubble. His orbit is so eccentric that it crosses Neptune's. The whole category of dwarf planets was created so we wouldn't have an ever-growing list of "planets" when only 8 of them are bigger than the Moon. I wouldn't mind getting Ceres, Eris, and Pluto as planets, but the list just goes on and on and on.

If something happens to a child in that phase "before they can remember" it's 100x (i don't actually how much worse) more psychologically damaging because that's when the pathways to which you process your physical world are developing, so that individuals subconscious brain will remember what happened to them, and react in ways that the adult individual doesn't understand (abandonment issues), because they don't remember what happened, but their subconscious is setting off all the alarms to make sure it never happens again, because that's where the "memory" is stored at that age.

The whole wheelchair thing reminded me of something that happened to me a few years ago: I had to spend the whole month of december in the hospital after suffering a brain hemorrage... it was bad... as in "I woke up one morning and the whole left side of my body was limp, with no control nor sense of touch" For my whole stay I was in a wheelchair, safe for when in the hospital gym to do rehabilitation or doing the walks with the stroller that the doctor told me to do to help me re-learn how to walk. Anyway, one afternoon I came back to my room and one of the half dozen guests my roommate was having (note: one visitor at a time is the max allowed) was chilling sitting in my wheelchair like it was some sort of throne... 1 - that is a medical prevision, don't treat it like any seat 2 - even when the assigned patient is not there, that wheelchair belongs to someone who ACTUALLY NEEDS IT, so lift your lazy ass and if you are too tired to stand up I'll have you know there are a lot of free chairs in the waiting room 3 - what kind of adult doesn't respect a wheelchair and its purpose? I don't know how much open space there is in the empty skull of that moron, but I sure am not eager to sit in one of those things again. Respect hospitals. Respect patients. Respect anything related to them, you really don't want to be in their place or know how it feels.

@@tim_the_traveler yeah, I agree, unfortunately it does. One thing I do think would be pretty useful would be free parenting classes and stuff like that, just more resources available for soon to be and new parents, with very open and clear information at places like the gynecologist and by midwives telling those parents "hey, here's a resource you can go to, it's free, you can get to know other (soon to be) parents and learn a thing or two and just have people to talk to about the struggles of becoming parents, a support network". It still wouldn't help against truly horrible people who are setting out to be horrible, but it may help those who suck because they're overwhelmed, could help recognise parents with mental health struggles and offering them counselling or therapy (or like helping to nudge them there) and things like that. And I think helping to get those who are in the grey area of being shitty parents but not on purpose to the better side of parenting would be a win. Again, those who really really suck and especially those who set out to be bad people won't really be affected by this I'm afraid, but sadly that's the case with almost all systems that could be put in place I'm afraid

I can somewhat sympathize with the woman in the stroller trying to get a spot on the bus... its kinda frustrating that some busses don't have more than one space for strollers and wheelchairs...or bikes. I park my bike there sometimes :p But if there's a wheelchair user or a stroller getting on the same buss (and its not one of those busses with multiple spots) I just leave... I can imagine its annoying if two people who ACTUALLY need that space needs to get on the same buss... But getting mad at a wheelchair user and accusing them of faking a disability isn't helping... especially if your stroller is foldable. Blame the buss company in that case for not being accommodating enough for people with disabilities and small children. Heck I recall one time a buss had to LEAVE a wheelchair user behind... not because the spot was taken but because the lift they use to get them onboard wasn't working (which was a common problem with those busses... thankfully they're no longer in use) They called a taxi for them but still... it was freezing cold that day and the wheelchair user probably had to wait at least 5 minutes if not more for a cab to arrive in freezing snow...
