As a french, I have to tell the truth: The statue of liberty was not a gift from the freemasons, or a way to worship Lucifer, but an attempt to secretly invade the USA. The crew who transported it were spies who were supposed to act undercover as builders to collect intel. Unfortunately, the french postal service being on strike, the final orders were never delivered to the spies who didn't know what to do once the statue was reassembled. So they decided to wait new orders, and meanwhile, improvised by becoming tour guides. The actual tour guides are their descendants, still waiting for these orders.

A scientific law is a irreputable fact, like how gravitational pull is related to the mass of the interacting bodies and inversely related to the distance between them or that energy is conserved in a complete system. They can be used as math equations. A theory uses data and laws to explain why certain trends occur that are not directly related to laws. Both are supported by years of rigorous trials and can be used to predict the outcomes of future experiments, and if not, they are changed. However, just because something is a theory does not make it any less valuable or supported than a law.
@WombatMan643 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Finally I see someone correctly define a theory online. I'm so sick with "Oh a theory is supported by some evidence but not enough yet, and it gets upgraded to a law when there's enough evidence" or some modification of that.
@churrlance70503 жыл бұрын
Close, but a law is still refutable in some extreme circumstances because laws are just (really good) approximation of the observation and data that we have. For example, although the law of gravity accurately describes the orbits of the planets, it does not describe the pull of gravity of massive bodies on light. Another example is how people used to calculate black body radiation, before we learnt about Planck's constant. Or basically half of classical physics that was once thought to be unbreakable. And laws of physics are still being broken every few decades or so being brilliant minds pushing the limits of what we know. My point is laws of nature aren't these obvious facts of life and we shouldn't treat them like it
@porcupinethecat50733 жыл бұрын
Scientific Laws are most often able to be expressed in equations and formulas, and are used to make specific predictions about outcomes. The reason we still learn Newton's equations in High School despite General Relativity having disproven them is because they are a close enough approximation to reality while being simple enough to memorize. That's all any of these laws are; they are simply empirical conclusions, and are not intended for absolutes.
@churrlance70503 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, that's why I called them really good approximation. I just didn't appreciate the use of the word "irreputable" (which I assume they mean irrefutable). But they are also past laws such as CP symmetry which was basically a statement and was once as highly regarded like the law of conservation, has been broken before. My point is that there is no irrefutable and unbreakable fact of the universe

When most people use the word "theory", what they really mean is "hypothesis". Theories are the best fit explanation of how and why an observed fact works the way it does. Like evolution is an observed fact of nature that life mutates over successive generations, and the theory of evolution is the explanation of how and why random mutations can result in the divergence of species over a long enough timeline. This is, of course, a gross over simplification, don't @ me.
@John_Weiss3 жыл бұрын
Actually, what most people mean by, "theory," is "cockamamie wild-guessing." We in science started using the word, "theory," due to its use in late-19th Century German scientific journals. So, take the 19th Century German definition of the word, „Theorie“ and translate that into really 21st Century English to get the actual scientific meaning. 😁

It would be true to say "Some people mistakenly use the word 'theory' when they mean 'hypothesis'". Claiming that you know what "most people" think and say sounds a little bit patronising.
@John_Weiss3 жыл бұрын
@@suonatar1 No, no, they're right to say, "most people." As someone with a PhD in physics, I hear the vast majority of non-scientists in the US use the word, "theory," to mean, "cockamamie half-baked guess." Europeans and the scientifically-literate non-scientists, OTOH, use the word, "theory," correctly when discussing science, but will use it to mean, "educated guess," other times - again, this is based on my experience. (FYI: I'm from the US.) This is not condescension, it's a statement of the exceedingly sad reality we live in. ☹️😢☹️

18:24 To be fair, they may be talking about the land borders (ie, the states like Nevada, as well Mexico/Canada) The reason why is relatively simple, the area around the fires is all mountains and deserts, places where there’s little to no vegetation. Where as the places with fires are all relatively dense forests in an area with dry seasons. Granted, that would mean that wildfires were an issue before climate change (which they were) but CC has greatly increased the number and intensity of wildfires

When it comes to things like the Theory of Relativity, theory also means a body of work like when someone's published multiple books to try and explain the same thing. I think Germ Theory might be this usage of the word theory? In this case because there have been many many publications by many many scientists and even ancient philosophers. It's very much not a new idea.
@robertnett97933 жыл бұрын
Yep. "Theory" in science means basically the (best) explanation (we have at the moment) for any given observation - which we call 'law'. So the 'Law of Gravity' means basically we see stuff falling down. The Theory of Relativity (or Germ Theory of Disease, or Theory of Evolution...) explains WHY we observe this things exactly how we observe them. Germ Theory by the way isn't that old. At least the actual one we use and expand on today. Some mid 19th century I think. Before that we had a lot of different ideas, ranging from 'bad air' or 'miasma' over imbalances in the bodily fluids and so on. Grasps of the idea existed long before, but ... I could be wrong, it was one Louis Pasteur who firstly observed germs under a microscope (and understood what he saw)...

19:02 dude that's nearly exactly what my chemistry teacher told us yesterday- Especially the thing with how science and translations are basically a translation of the universe to our language, she basically said exactly that

At 2:02 I deadass ran to my parents all excited like and said "Thats it! The flatearthers have SOLVED IT" Then I proceeded to explain, laugh so hard I cried and went back to my room. Mom kept eating chips and rolled her eyes while dad looked at me looking like he can't possibly expect the human race to go any lower.

You've mentioned a phobia of needles. I get the same issue. I've been able to decrease it over the years by taking classes on using a needle and being the one poking others occasionally. The gathered knowledge decreases the anxiety, making it easier to handle the pain.

I have intense anxiety when it comes to needles, vaccines, etc. So it's peachy.
@thajocoth3 жыл бұрын
@ShayAway It hurts less because it's a higher gauge needle, so it's thinner. Blood is thicker so it needs a thicker needle to draw it. Since all of my senses are multiplied, I still find the sting to be painful, but understanding the gauges and the mechanics surrounding the poke makes it easier to handle that pain.

Clicky's pronunciation most of the time is so good that I forget that English is not his native language. Then he butchers "pantheon" and "Canaanites." It reminds me that he's doing this in a second (third?) language and my respect for him skyrockets even more.

“APOLLO IS THE ANTICHRIST MENTIONED IN THE BOOK OF REVELATIONS” Which chapter of Revelations? What verse? I would very much like to know.

apollo is also a greek god of the sun. i cant with these people

@@dylanrok Classical student here, sorry but the Greek sun god was Helios. Apollo was god of truth / light / wisdom primarily ; further he could heal, as well as also having war aspect (specifically, war in a just cause)
@dylanrok3 жыл бұрын
@@diarmuidkuhle8181 True, he was the god of archery and all that other stuff. I mispoke, as helios is the titan of the sun, but apollo was the most recent one to drive the sun chariot. ( I think)

The name is mentioned in the book of revelation 9-11, when the fifth angel sounds his trumpet: "They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer)." Of course there is a discussion whether Apollyon and Apollo are the same "person" or not, never the easy way...
@irrelevant_noob3 жыл бұрын
@@diarmuidkuhle8181 iirc not merely any light, but SUN's light specifically. For the moon's light, the greeks initially had Selene (the word ‘Selas’ meaning light), which then extended to the whole of the moon. And @idk anymore the chariot had been Helios', yet Helios and Apollo started getting some serious overlap, especially through roman eyes.

21:47 Clearly this person heard that CO2 converts in to a weak acid in the blood and then just stopped listening. YES, CO2 forms carbonic acid when dissolved in water which lowers the pH of the body. This is why we need to breath out CO2. The pH of the body is monitored and kept within an optimum range. This is one of the processes of homeostasis. We all breath in a bit of our CO2 all the time with or without a mask but the level of which is more or less safe. THIS IS WHY EDUCATION IS SO IMPORTANT.

I lost my dad to COVID in January, I almost lost my uncle to it resulting in severe blood clots in his lungs. I’ve lost several of my favorite customers at my bookstore. One of our local restaurants that specializes in senior customers lost 6 customers in one week. Sometimes I want to know why I’m not consumed by rage. Mostly cute cat videos and lovely people like the Click. Keep doing what you do darling.

to you. I've been lucky. I have a friend who lost his mother to COVID, and my sister-in-law's mother died from it. (G*d help any COVID-denying idiots that open their mouths to my brother, because he'll beat the sh1te out of them. He very much loves his in-laws.) I cannot and do not understand the pain you've been through. Yet I can still wish that you had not gone through it.

As someone who has lost my grandpa to the virus, it pisses me of more then anything when people say stuff like "if the was a virus, then how come no one has died??". My father and I was with him for 6 hours straight in the hospital without eating or taking breaks and i experienced my first and worst panic attack in my life. It was the worst couple of days in my life because we knew that he was going to die, it was just a question of when. If i actually meet someone in real life who has the guts to say this to my face, then i will not be able to hold myself back because NO ONE disrespects my grandpa's pain and suffering like that
