In my Highschool English class we we’re discussing To Kill a Mockingbird, some kid asked when the book was released, everyone said 1960, wanna know how this kid responded? “There was books in the 1960s?” He was dead serious.
@esmin24004 жыл бұрын
Before my final History exam, some kid I barely spoke to the whole course says to me ‘hey, do you know if the USSR was Communist or Capitalist?’. The exam was about the Cold War, I was literally lost for words, I had to rewind the otherworldly stupidity to confirm that those words did indeed exit his mouth. He was dead serious, I can’t even imagine what expression I pulled before answering but I expect he wasn’t even bright enough to recognise that I was floored by this question. Needless to say, he failed every exam and obviously didn’t listen to a word of the 2 year course.

11:33 For those wondering Diamond isn't metal. Also, it's not durable to bullets because it's only friction resistant. 1 gram of diamond = 1 gram. The other problem is it's expensive.
@protonjinx3 жыл бұрын
Umm... you mean scratch resistant.. not friction.
@zeo43913 жыл бұрын
@@protonjinx yeah scratches are caused by friction
@foogod42372 жыл бұрын
So, for clarification: Diamonds are not metal (correct). They are actually crystals (of carbon). Diamonds actually are extremely hard in general (it's not really about friction). However, they are also quite brittle. This is because the rigid crystalline structure (which metals actually do not have) can cause them to easily crack or shatter if they receive force in the right/wrong way (this is actually one of the features people take advantage of in order to sharpen them into pretty sparkly shapes). Hardness and brittleness are often opposing properties (usually, the harder you make a material, the more brittle it gets) which is why people come up with all kinds of complicated steel formulations and hardening processes for things like kitchen knives, to try to make them as hard as possible so they hold their sharpness well, but also not so brittle that their edges just chip and ding at every opportunity. More importantly, even if they weren't brittle and could just resist/reflect everything the way people sometimes think, that is very much _not_ what you want for a bullet-proof vest anyway. It would mean that the bullet would just go ricocheting off the vest to probably hit somebody else nearby (such as one of your allies or an innocent civilian, or even another of your own body parts which isn't covered by the vest) which would be very dangerous. Bullet-proof vests are made from material which will deform and absorb as much of the force of the bullet as possible, so that it does not bounce off but actually stops (relatively) harmlessly. That's why they're made of flexible things like kevlar instead of harder materials.

For someone wondering: monolith /ˈmɒn(ə)lɪθ/: a large single upright block of stone, especially one shaped into or serving as a pillar or monument. Basically, a single and homogeneous block of material (nowadays is not only stone) that usually stays in place upright. In the Ancient World, they were used to build solar clocks (ground sundials), monuments mostly related to the sun (Stonehenge, Abu Simbel, Karnak, etc...), and columns or statues in general (most statues in marble were carved from monoliths, also, the moai of Rapa Nui are monoliths too).
