Will definitely save scraping the engine covers. I should know as scraped mine before buying these 😂

Great video, and the engine guards look great. Yes, a fair amount of money for these, but they look like excellent quality parts. If you are going to do some serious touring and you're in the middle of nowhere and drop the bike, this kind of protection gives you a lot of peace of mind that you can still reach your destination. It's also a good reason to ride a Honda in general--if you're well being depends on your bike performing, although no bike is perfect and can have problems, I'd rather be on a Honda than any other bike. Well done and thanks for sharing this with us!

Thanks for the feedback, you are so right in considering peace of mind, and my decision was based on dropping the bike on Salter Fell trail ride (there’s a video on the channel) which did scratch the clutch cover..so this made me think what could protect it without putting heavy bars on..and although a bit expensive they are top quality and a casual observer wouldn’t know they were added to bike. Anyhow I’m having a beer and food before I go to bed, wild camping up in Scotland and it’s starting to get cold so all the best and ride safe, regards Andrew

Thank you for a very informative video. I got one and before I even installed it my friend told me some sand and water will eventually go inside the gap between the case and the engine and will scratch the engine's surface. Can you review your engine's surface after 3 years of riding with the engine case?
@thecampingbiker7916 ай бұрын
@@ledat1471 Thank you.. I can say for sure no scratching to any surface under the covers, there’s a slight gap so they don’t sit directly on engine surface so won’t scratch it, and having sold the bike I’ve recently removed to put in new NX500 I bought so can be certain! Possibly if they touched the engine it could happen like your friend suggested but these don’t touch so all good 👍🏻

Got some for my CB500F more to change the colour of the bronze/gold to black. You mentioned about re-tightening the bolts after use. I used a strong lock tight and have checked the torque a couple of times now and tightened. Have you reached a point where you don't have too anymore?
@thecampingbiker7913 жыл бұрын
I’ve checked a couple of times since fitting and no issues or loosening…I also do a shake down in mid winter and just check throughout the bike but they’ve never needed tightening 👍🏻
@olid90182 жыл бұрын
I am looking intp this because I ride my 500x offroad a lot and I fear that when the bike drops clutch cover first on a sharp rock it might crack and leave the engine leaking. Do you think these covers are steady enough to prevent a rock punching through it?
@thecampingbiker7912 жыл бұрын
While you could never 100% say for sure I think there’s a good chance they will take the brunt of the impact and therefore take out the momentum of the collision. also there’s a slight gap between cover and case which also goes some way to reduce the risk. Hope that helps a bit and you could also carry JB Weld in the unlikely event of damage to the cover..lots of travellers carry it for emergencies 👍🏻

Wouldn't this afect the engine cooling, being made of plastic?
@thecampingbiker7912 жыл бұрын
No, perfectly fine..has spacers and a small air gap behind
@handleby2 жыл бұрын
@@thecampingbiker791 ok, thanks for answering. Unfortunately there are no crash bars that cross over the clutch cover. There are some that are close, some that cross over the engine cover on the left side but, none seems to do so on the right side. And I don't understand why because that would provide perfect protection and this plastic covers would not even be needed. I think the engine sides and bottom needs to be protected in the 1st place and then the plastic fairing. The RR skid plate but, doesn't go over the engine covers. The R&G Crash bars seem to be better in this respect but, they don't offer a matching skid plate and would probably be difficult to fit one from another brand. Outback Motorteck offers a complete set but still, does not go over the side engine cases. So, kind of hard to find the perfect solution for this bike. :)
@thecampingbiker7912 жыл бұрын
@@handleby no problem and I agree, there isn’t a perfect solution with everything a compromise! I think because the bike is basically modeled on a road bike and priced at a relatively budget price, it can be difficult to get the right solution! Obviously it’s also very personal and my set up seems to do the job….let’s hope the new Transalp (if it happens) comes set up with full protection as you describe… 😆
@handleby2 жыл бұрын
@@thecampingbiker791 yeah, would be nice to see a new Transalp like bike, something like a CB650x with a bit more offroad focus. Yes, I also think that is the reason, Honda did not think people would take this bike so far of the pavement so they don't offer the same level of crash protection as they do for the AT :)

@@handleby think you’re right, probably been much more used off road than anticipated…which is the sign this bike is a great little machine 😃

sorry Stuart, forgot to respond and just re checked!! Most of the time i'm happy with screen but like everything it's a compromise! Only time i find it a pain is on motorways and have thought of screen extender but held off for now and just put up with it...i don't personally want a bigger screen but guess for commuting that could be an answer...how have you got on since original message?

This is a very good idea. I’ve never thought about it. Do you think that those guards and RR skid plate is enough protection if you drop the bike? What about the Fairings, should I have to put something extra to protect them?
@thecampingbiker7914 жыл бұрын
The case covers are well worth it and unless you knew they were there you wouldn’t know (if that makes sense 😂) I’ve subsequently fitted Hepco and Becker fairing bars to work with the engine covers and engine guard to give a more complete protection. The Barkbuster handguards also help to protect so overall I’m really happy with the outcome. Have a look at the fitting video 👍🏻 kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIWxiH6uf5l2bpI

Thanks 2wheel, appreciate your support 👍🏻 I think RR actually mean the upper engine protection bars from R&G as they use the same engine mounting point! The case covers don’t have any effect on the RR guard, so I’m fairly certain they have just got their wording mixed up😆 👍🏻

Not sure that 4mm polyporpylene will help much in a low speed drop onto a rock; polypropylene is fairly flexible and is likely to distort and still allow a rock to fracture a casing. In a sliding situation, yes the polypropylene will give some extra thickness (=time) to grind away before the tarmac starts on the actual casing but I would be dubious about the protection they give in a trail situation over good old crash bars. As you say, the clue is in brand - R and G *RACING*. But good luck anyway!
@thecampingbiker7913 жыл бұрын
Hopefully, I won’t find out 😂 I guess it’s just extra protection to the lower protection of the lower RR guard and upper H&B crash bars and should at least stop scraping the engine covers as I did before fitting 😂 👍🏻
