I knew when he got the appendix he didn't know enough to clone it properly. It would probably be unethical to suggest he start with a fetus, as that has the built-in instructions for making a complete human, but he said he knew what he was doing and we took him at his word. They will learn eventually. I hope there are more stories in this setting to follow.
@alganhar1
@alganhar1 2 жыл бұрын
The DNA is the blueprint, but it does NOT control the development of the Foetus, only what the end result SHOULD be. You see Mammalian foetal development is a specialised form of Phenotypic Plasticity often called ontological plasticity. So what is this? Phenotypic plasticity is defined as a non genetic change in an organisms phenotype in response to the environment. To further explain, non genetic means just that, it is a non genetic response. This can generally be defined as a change within an organisms lifetime as almost no genetic changes express in the individual that undergoes them unless it affects a trigger. The Phenotype is the organism AS A WHOLE. Not just the physiology but also its sociology and behaviour. Response to the environment could be anything, predator/prey interactions, inter or intra specific competition, or some direct environmental effect such as temperature, wave energy etc etc. This response can be reversible, or non reversible. Tanning in humans is a very good example of reversible phenotypic plasticity. The development of the foetus in the womb is controlled ENTIRELY by the chemical balance of the womb, it is dependant on the presence or lack thereof of certain hormones, their levels and so on. This is why certain drugs, habits like smoking, and some pollutants can cause serious birth defects. In other words, even starting with a viable foetus the cloner would have to absolutely understand the required chemical, temperature and nutrient regime in the womb at every stage in order to successfully grow that foetus into a living child. Something we do not yet understand which is the very reason WHY we use surrogate mothers for cloning experiments. So no, you are in fact wrong. The foetus does not have the inbuilt instructions for making a complete human baby, the WOMB does. EDIT: Hell, there is even extremely strong evidence, very convincing evidence, that the developing foetus listens to the sounds around it, including the mothers heartbeat and her voice. Which means those may well be important facets in the development in and of themselves (though this is less clear to my knowledge). What is known is that a baby knows the sound of its mothers voice before he or she is even born.....

07:09 That's not entirely true. Destilled water can be dangerous to consume in larger quantities since it sucks all important minerals towards itself (kinda like the opposite of salt water which sucks the water out). If I remember that wrong, feel free to correct me. In the water we consume there's always some amount of minerals.

Inside, outside, inbetween, low, midle, high, front, back, side, top, below. And then we arrive at the r34 side of the list. In another being, "in" another being, on another being, through another being (both the "fun" and not fun way), another being in the tentacle. Repeat the list for number of beings in every configuration you might tink of or wonder about. Should cover about what you are wondering about. You might also think tentacles are not wrong, in that case the list may become a checklist.

Going by the dialogue, the typical alien is a single celled being, but grown to a macro-scale that humans can see and interact with without needing tools. This is why the aliens think of humans as collections of microscale lifeforms.
